be admitted to獲準(zhǔn)做某事,是固定短語(yǔ),所以by改成to/into。

考查固定短語(yǔ)。With the help of在…的幫助下,是固定短語(yǔ),所以a改成the。

考查時(shí)態(tài)。表示發(fā)生在過(guò)去的事情,用一般過(guò)去時(shí),所以listening 改成listened

考查固定短語(yǔ)。be afraid of害怕,是固定短語(yǔ),所以afraid前面加be。

考查代詞。指代前面的“problems”,是復(fù)數(shù),所以it改成them。

I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard my name calling. I was chosen to play the leading role in a play, that was my dream. As a shy and thin girl, I used to being quite afraid of speaking in the public. But my parents and teachers always encouraged me to do so. What they said had a deep influence of me. By now I changed greatly. In class, I am often the first one to stand up and answer questions even if I may take some mistakes. As the November cold begins to take control

in the UK, Bonfire Night (or Guy Fawkes Night) is a chance to wrap up in winter clothes and warm up by the fire.

Celebrated on November 5, Guy Fawkes Night has been part of British history since 1605, when Fawkes was found trying to blow up parliament (議會(huì)) with barrels of gunpowder. Now, it is traditional for Britons to make a fake (假的) “Guy” every year from old clothes and burn it on the fire.

If you visit a small town in the southwest of the country, you might see men from the village run through the crowded streets with huge wooden barrels on their backs, then fill them with tar (焦油) and set them on fire. And in Lewes, a town in the southern English county of Sussex, different groups of bonfire societies parade (游行) the streets, each wearing their own unique outfits and carrying a giant mascot (吉祥物), which they burn at their own bonfire party at the end of the evening.

Bonfire Night is also a time for “chili con carne”, a dish made from slowcooked beef mince, tomatoes, kidney beans, onions, and spices. It is often served on top of a hot jacket potato with butter and cheese. It's not the most elegant dish in the world but it's sure to warm people up while they brave the cold for the festivities.

But for many Britons, the night is not complete without “bonfire treacle toffee (太妃糖)”, which is also known as “plot toffee”, named after Guy Fawkes' plot to blow up parliament. The toffee is rock hard and is often broken with a hammer and handed out to guests.

Whether it's the sound of fireworks making Britain sound like a war zone, the hearty winter food, or the excuse to light a huge fire, Bonfire Night has something for everyone. Just watch out for those rockets!

【1】What is Guy Fawkes Night?

A.A person to explode the parliament.

B.A guy to be controlled in the UK.

C.A symbol for Britons to enter winter.

D.A dish famous to British people.

【2】Why do people have “chili con carne”?

A.Because it's the most elegant.

B.Because it's full of energy.

C.Because it's on jacket potatoes.

D.Because it's slowly cooked.

【3】The underlined word “rockets” refers to “________”.

A.celebrations B.fireworks

C.performances D.bonfires

【4】What is the text mainly about?

A.The origin of Guy Fawkes Night.

B.The introduction of a traditional food.

C.A complete toffee on Bonfire Night.

D.Activities on the night of November 5 in Britain.

Robots performing tasks according to a predetermined set of instructions are nothing new.But robots able to learn how to cook by watching videos are a completely different approach, which is conducted by a group of researchers at the University of Maryland.

If you have posted a video of your favorite recipe on the popular website YouTube, chances are that it will be used by a robot.University of Maryland's professor Yiannis Aloimonos, leader of the group, said “There exists a large amount of video information on the Internet that our robots can capitalize_on.”

“At present, the videos are fed electronically,”said research scientist Cornelia Fermuller.“Originally, we took our own videos, our cameras looking at us doing the cooking,”she explained.“And, as the robot advances, it reacts to good quality videos. And it will react to even lower quality homemade videos.”

So far, the robot named Julia can make a simple salad by breaking each task into basic parts, such as grasping a spoon, bringing it to the bowl, stirring the salad and observing the results.

But why teach a robot how to understand a video when it can easily follow a fixed program?Aloimonos believes predetermined instructions lack flexibility. He thinks one of the problems is how to make the robot understand and use what it learns during a certain task, the socalled feedback (反饋意見(jiàn)); another is the introduction of language.

“I believe it will take quite some time before the robots are able to understand metaphorical (比喻性的) laguage,”he added.“But,” he said,“we don't need that to create a new world where the robots will be working for us.”

【1】The underlined phrase “capitalize on” in Paragraph 2 probably can be replaced by ________.

A.take hold of B.make use of

C.keep track of D.catch sight of

【2】Aloimonos probably agrees that at present the robot ________.

A.can not fully digest what it learns

B.can not make a simple salad

C.can follow homemade videos

D.can understand metaphorical language

【3】Robots are taught to understand a video mainly because ________.

A.they can easily follow fixed programs

B.they are smart enough to learn cooking

C.cooking videos are more interesting to watch

D.predetermined instructions are not flexible

【4】Which of the following might best serve as the title of the passage?

A.Robots Creating a New World

B.Robots Making Cooking Videos

C.Robots Learning to Cook by Watching Videos

D.Robots Performing Tasks by Following Instructions
