I liked smoking. When I smoked with my family,I would feel so relaxed and good that 1      else in the world seemed to 2      . I thought that smoking weed(煙草) was 3       since many of my family members and people at my school smoked. Nothing ever happened to them.

As I continued to smoke marijuana, I began to notice that I would always have the strong desire to smoke and that I would get 10       cigarettes if I smoked those, but I don't smoke marijuana. 11       I have learned more about marijuana, I have reduced 12       of marijuana that I use. I don't want drugs to be the most important in my life. I'm not smoking every day,and not spending as much money. Now that I have 13       on my habit, I am 14       more money. I,m ready to go back to school and do good,so that I can make 15       of myself. Everyone is always saying how weed 16       your mind and how it solves problems. I think it only brings more 17       . Marijuana is not good for your body or your brain. I'm not trying to tell you not to smoke, I'm just letting you know that marijuana can be 18       to your health, and in the long term it may cause some long term negative(負(fù)面的) effects. Help your?self now, 19       it is too late. I don't want to lecture anyone, just 20       my experience with you. I do still smoke, but not as often.

Narrator(解說(shuō)) :(Scene shows an old woman, washing her supper dishes. ) For several years,a widow (寡婦) has lived in her own pleasant two-room and kitchenette apartment in a re?built brownstone near East River. Her late husband, Mr. H. T. Miller, had left a fair amount of insurance money before he passed away. Mrs. Miller is,in fact, not an average sixty-one-year-old woman;she has little interest outside her apartment, has no friends to speak of,and she only ventures out as far as a nearby grocery store. No one who lives near her has taken note of her existence, with her old-fashioned dress and old-fashioned hairstyle, and she never uses any cosmetics(化妝品) .Her daily activities are monotonous, smoking an occasional cigarette, preparing her own meals, feeding her canary (a kind of bird) named "Tommy",and keeping her two-room apartment as clean as possible. (Mrs. Miller sits down on her couch, reading through the afternoon newspaper.)

Narrator: (Camera changes scene to Rod Serling, a glowing cigarette held in her hand.) One would think that her life would be as normal as anyone else's. She doesn't mind the wall of isolation(隔離) she has created around herself all these years. But all of this is going to change. Mrs. Miller is going to meet a person, a small child, who, like her,has no friends, goes through life unnoticed, and ventures only as far as Mrs. Miller. Would it be a dream of happi?ness come true? Or perhaps the worst nightmare(垂夢(mèng)) Mrs. Miller has ever experienced ...In the Twilight Zone!

It was well-known that Einstein was the father of the famous Theory of Relativity. But do you know it owes a great deal to Marits,Einstein's former wife?

In 1896,17-year-old Einstein went to Zurich to study physics. There he met a girl fromHungary. They studied in the same class. The same interest brought the two together and the young man fell in love with Marits. In 1903, when Einstein was 24 years old,he married Marits, who was 4 years older than he.-

After their marriage, Einstein devoted himself to the research of the great theory. To give her husband more help,Marits gave up her own work, and became a good wife and assistant. In 1914,the Einstein moved to Berlin and settled there. At that time,Einstein's theory proved to be correct and he had become famous all over the world. Marits was very proud of him and his success.   LONDON,England,a capital city full of art and history,an important political centre,a huge financial market place.

Whatever you think about London, visiting as a tourist is very different from living there. Each part of London has its own character. Some parts are richer than others,or more industrial, or have better housing.

Let's start with the centre, the "Square Mile". This is the oldest part of London. In the past, this is where all financial business was done. Not many people live here, but 300,000 people work here every day.

Moving west,we come to the West End. This busy shopping and entertainment district is bursting with things to do. Take a walk down Oxford Street, past big department stores like Sel-fridges and Harrods.      Rents here are very high,a one-bedroom apartment may cost around 1000 pounds (14,845 yuan) a week.

Further away is West London. This area is more residential and very fashionable. Go see the home of Diana, the Princess of Wales:Kensington Palace. Notting Hill, made famous by the film starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, is here.

The East End contains the Port of London, which historically is where many immigrants first arrived. Waves of French, Belgians, Jews,Pakistanis and Bangladeshis have all lived here. This makes the area very diverse(各式各樣的) ,but also quite poor. It has a reputation as being dangerous. Since London won the bid to hold the Olympics in 2012, many Londoners hope that housing, education and employment for many people in this area will improve.

It is difficult to be general about London. The city is made up of a "collection of villages", each area with its own character and community. Put them all together, and you have London, a international capital.

(   ) 1. It can be inferred from the passage that         .

A.more tourists would rather visit London thanFranceevery year

B.the West End in London is the oldest part of London

C.the film Notting Hill made the actress Julia Roberts famous in London

D.Kensington Palace is one of the places of interest in London

(   ) 2. What does the word "reputation" in Paragraph 6 mean in Chinese?

   A.名聲,名譽(yù)   B.治安   C.住房   D.環(huán)境

(   ) 3. All of the following are true except         .

A.Many people work in the oldest part of London every day

B.It costs quite a lot to rent a flat in West End

C.There are many immigrants in the east part of London

D.London will compete for the bid to hold the Olympic in 2012

(   ) 4. The passage serves as         .

A.a poster to draw many visitors to London
