Mr Rule made his determination to spend all he had ________ a library for disabled children.
A.put up
B.setting up
C.built
D.having set up
此題題意是“Rule先生決定花去他的所得給殘疾兒童建一個(gè)圖書館”.spend sth.結(jié)構(gòu)中,后面用動(dòng)名詞,介詞in有時(shí)可省去.從made his determination to能看出要做的事還沒做,故不能用表示完成概念的D項(xiàng).A選項(xiàng)put up和had構(gòu)成過去完成時(shí)不妥,況且其意思表示臨時(shí)搭起.B選項(xiàng)setting up,符合spend sth.+從句+doing的結(jié)構(gòu).故選B項(xiàng). |
解答此類題應(yīng)要注意英語中一些后面常用doing的結(jié)構(gòu),如pay attention to doing, look forward to doing, lead to doing, devote sth.to doing等,這些短語都接名詞和動(dòng)名詞作賓語.還要掌握動(dòng)名詞、動(dòng)詞不定式和動(dòng)詞過去分詞的完成式都具有完成的意義. |

Mr and Mrs Smith had always spent their summer holidays in New Jersey in the past, staying in a small inn(旅店) at the foot of a hill. They flew to London and arrived at their hotel late one evening. They expected that they would have to go to bed hungry, because in that small inn in New Jersey, no meals were served after seven. They were therefore surprised when the man who received them in the hall asked whether they would take dinner there that night.
“Are you still serving dinner?” asked Mr Smith.
“Yes, certainly, sir,” answered the man. “We serve it until half past nine.”
“What are the times of meals then?” asked Mr Smith.
“Well, sir,” answered the man, “We serve breakfast from seven to half past eleven in the morning, lunch from twelve to three in the afternoon, tea from four to five, and dinner from six to half past nine.”
