Recently an English speaking competition held in Chongqing People’s Great Hall on April 15. Senior I and II students from Chongqing take part in it. The students introduced Queensland and Chongqing but also compared life and study to Chongqing and Queensland. Through the competition students know Queensland better. They have also improved their language ability, who will be a good help for cultural communication. The first six best students will enjoy a freely trip to Queensland. We will live and study there for two weeks in August.

I also took part in a competition. Ranked 3rd, I will be given the chances too. I am glad I will experience life in Queensland myself and to improve my English as well.

The students introduced Queensland and Chongqing可知,這里用的是一般過去時,所以比賽發(fā)生在過去,所以這里應該用一般過去時的被動語態(tài),故把held改為be held.

這里不是not only…but also,前面沒有not only,根據(jù)句意這里表示前后是并列關系,也不是轉(zhuǎn)折關系,不能用but,故把but改為and.

The first six best students will enjoy a freely trip to Queensland. The first six best students前六名的學生(第三人稱),下文應該用代詞(第三人稱)代替,用they不能用we,故把we改為they.

故把a改為the.

故把to improve改為improve.

When I was a little kid, one of my favorite things to do was going to the zoo. I have recently heard that there are debates as to whether elephants should live in zoos or should they wander around free. My position is that elephants should live in zoos for people to see.

Many experts say that elephants have a good life living in zoos. There are 78 zoos that exhibit elephants. Most zoos are taking the necessary steps to make living conditions better for the elephants. They are doing things such as replacing hard floors with sand or dirt. This makes it easier for them to wander around. Zoos are also expanding their elephant house to give the large animals more room to go around.

Zoos also protect endangered species. According to the World Wildlife Fund, in 2014 the total population of African elephants was around 700,000, and the Asian elephant population was around 32,000. The Asian elephants are on a path to dying out. Without zoos, they all are likely to disappear within our lifetime. The National Zoo plans to spend millions of dollars on a new Asian elephant habitat. That way, they can start their own group if the Asian elephants are gone.

There are people who want zoos to empty all of their elephant displays. If they decide to do so, it would take the chance to see elephants up close away from people. That could change the public’s favorable opinion of elephants. National Zoo director John Berry says that allowing visitors to experience the elephants up close encourages people to care about endangered species. During one of my visits to the zoo, it was a very hot day. I was sweating a lot. Big Ben, the largest elephant on display, walked up to me and gently squirted() my face with water from his trunk. Everyone was amazed at what he did. That was a very nice thing for Big Ben to do. I am sure that elephants are the nicest animals on earth. I wish all zoos would keep their elephant displays open to the public. I want all my friends to be able to experience what I did with Big Ben.

I feel zoos should follow all the necessary steps to keep elephants in zoos. I would raise money at my school if I thought it would help to keep elephants in zoos.

A. They are living in a new habitat.

B. They are at the risk of disappearing.

C. They prefer wandering on hard floors.

D. They often squirt people’s face with water.

2The underlined word “displays” in Paragraph 4 means ___________.

With busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are great to you, your family, and your community(社區(qū)).
One of the better-known benefits of volunteering is the effect on the community. Volunteering allows you to connect with your community and make it a better place. Volunteering also strengthens your ties to the community and broadens your support network, exposing(使暴露) you to people with common interests, neighborhood resources, and fun and satisfactory activities.
While some people are naturally outgoing, others are shy and have a hard time meeting new people. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to practice and develop your social skills, since you are meeting regularly with a group of people with common interests. Once you have the desire, it's easier to make more friends and contacts.
Volunteering provides many benefits for both mental and physical health. You're doing good to others and the community, which makes you experience the pleasure of success. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity.
Reducing the risk of depression(沮喪) is another important benefit of volunteering. A key risk factor for depression is social isolation. Volunteering keeps you in regular contact with others and helps you develop a solid support system, which in turn protects you against stress and depression when you're going through challenging times. Volunteering is good for your health whether you are young or old, but it's especially good in older adults.
Volunteering offers you the chance to try out a new career without making a long-term commitment. It is also a great way to gain experience in a new field. Volunteering work can expose you to professional organizations or internship(實習)that could be of benefit to your career. That volunteer work is unpaid doesn't mean the skills you learn are basic. Many volunteering opportunities provide training. In addition, volunteering can also help you build upon skills you already have and use them to benefit the greater community.
Volunteering is a fun and easy way to explore your interests and passions. Volunteer opportunities that match both your goals and your interest are most likely to be fun and satisfying for you. Doing volunteer work you find meaningful and interesting can be a relaxing escape from your day-to-day routines of work, school, and family commitments. Volunteering also provides you with renewed creativity, motivation, and vision that can be carried over into your personal and professional life.

Last summer, I went to work as a volunteer teacher in a small village, that is located in the south of our country. The children there were all from poor families, but they didn't have nice clothes to wear or food eat. They had to do much housework as our parents had gone to work in cities to make money. They had to take care for their little brothers or sisters. They live a hard life. But they were eager to learn less about the outside world. When asking about their dreams, they gave me the same answer. They said they hoped they could return to their small villages after graduating from college to make their hometown the more beautiful.
