【題目】Developing good study habits isn’t easy. 1 In this way, you’ll become more and more successful as a student.

Start by allowing no interruptions. 2You have to give 100 percent of your attention to your work. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted by friends or fellow students. Keep your goal in mind; know what you have to do and when it needs to be done. Don’t let other people influence you into not doing your work.

3If you study best in the morning, plan to do your hardest subjects first. Remember not to leave today’s work till tomorrow. A delay like this is called procrastination. If you delay for any reason, you’ll find it more and more difficult to get things done when you need to. You may rush to make up the time you wasted getting started, resulting in careless and error-filled work.

Another good way to study is to take part in partnered and group-study sessions. These allow students to share ideas, and help each other deal with difficult material. 4

Forming good study habits can be difficult at first, and requires energy and a strong will. But if you commit yourself to it, success will be yours. 5By doing so, you will know that you have tried. If you are satisfied with what you’ve done and know that you have tried your best, your grade will be the icing on the cake.

A. Always give your best in the classroom and in study sessions.

B. It’s impossible to study while chatting or watching TV.

C. Figure out when you’re most productive.

D. You may do well enough but maybe you can hardly achieve your goal easily.

E. Putting off your task for any reason can make it difficult to finish on time.

F. But start with a plan, put in a lot of hard work, and studying will become easier.

G. In addition, learning among students is a good way of getting a firmer grasp of the material.

【解析】本文是一篇說(shuō)明文。文章主要介紹了養(yǎng)成良好的學(xué)習(xí)習(xí)慣的方法和策略。

1本題的上一句說(shuō)“Developing good study habits isn’t easy”(養(yǎng)成好的學(xué)習(xí)習(xí)慣并不容易),后一句“In this way, you’ll become more and more successful as a student.”(以這種方式(學(xué)習(xí))的話,作為一個(gè)學(xué)生你就會(huì)變得越來(lái)越成功。)分析選項(xiàng)可知,只有F項(xiàng)與學(xué)習(xí)方式和習(xí)慣有關(guān),F項(xiàng)(如果有了計(jì)劃,再輔之以努力,學(xué)習(xí)就容易多了)承上啟下,故選F項(xiàng)。

2上一句“ Start by allowing no interruptions”(學(xué)習(xí)時(shí)不能被打斷),并與下文“Don’t allow yourself to be distracted by friends or fellow students.”呼應(yīng)可推知,學(xué)習(xí)要專注,邊學(xué)習(xí)邊聊天或者看電視是不可能的,故選B項(xiàng)。

3根據(jù)下一句“If you study best in the morning, plan to do your hardest subjects first.”(如果早晨的學(xué)習(xí)效率好,就先在上午做最難的科目。)并根據(jù)本段的整體內(nèi)容可推知,本段主要講的是弄清楚學(xué)習(xí)的最佳時(shí)機(jī),故C項(xiàng)(弄清楚什么時(shí)候你最有效率)符合題意。

4承接上文“These allow students to share ideas, and help each other deal with difficult material.”可知,集體學(xué)習(xí)有助于分享觀點(diǎn),幫助彼此解決困難的學(xué)習(xí)材料,從而更牢固地掌握學(xué)習(xí)內(nèi)容。由此可推斷出學(xué)生之間的學(xué)習(xí)是一種很好的方法。故選G項(xiàng)。

5下文“By doing so, you will know that you have tried. If you are satisfied with what you've done and know that you have tried your best, your grades will be the icing on the cake.”

It is necessary but difficult for English beginners to memorize new words, and long lists of words seem to make the mission impossible. They are puzzled why they try to memorize words with great efforts but forget them easily. That's why there are often inquiries about how to memorize new words.
Here are some tips to help.
We too often separate the process of new words memorization from pronunciation. In fact these two can be combined and each will enhance the other. Saying the word to ourselves helps activate aural(hearing) memory, which helps the memory. The more familiar we are with the word,
the greater chance we will have to keep it for the rest of our life.
Never memorize single English words. Relate the word to terms we already know, either as synonym or antonym. For example, the word "gargantuan" is similar in meaning to words "gigantic", ”huge" and "large". Make a sequence of words: "small, medium, large, gigantic, and gargantuan".
Create a mental image of the word that involves strong emotions. Think, "The gargantuan whale is going to swallow me whole".
Learning English words requires action. Complaining how difficult it is to memorize new words will be of little help. Have a try with ten words a day and you will see what a difference you will make in our English learning.
A. So take action right now.
B. Speak the word while memorizing it.
C. Memorizing new words is very important.
D. Actually, some have given up learning new words.
E. In fact, learning new words needn't be that difficult.
F. Make as many associations and connections as possible.
G. The sound of word helps us recall the spelling and familiarizes us with the word.

【題目】Something’s happening at the lowest point on our planet.

The Dead Sea, a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west, is shrinking(縮小) at an alarming rate-----about 3.3 feet per year, according to the environmentalist group EcoPeace Middle East. And human actions are largely to blame.

“It’s not just like one country is punishing the Dead Sea; it’s more like the whole area,” said photographer Mortize Kustner, who visited the area in February to work on his series “The Dying Dead Sea”.

The Dead Sea needs water from the other natural sources surrounding it, such as the Jordan River basin. But around the 1960s, some of the water sources it relied on were diverted(使改道).Israel, for instance, built a pipeline during that time so it could supply water throughout the country.

Mineral extraction(開(kāi)采) industries are another main reason the water levels are falling, experts say. The Dead Sea’s minerals have been used as medicine and can often be found in cosmetics(化妝品) and other consumer products.

And then, of course, there’s the Middle East’s hot, dry climate, which makes it difficult for the lake to replenish itself.

Last year, Israel and Jordan signed a $900 million deal in an effort to keep the Dead Sea’s water levels stable(穩(wěn)定). It includes building a canal from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea which would be able to not only supply water to Israel and Jordan but also to pump water into the Dead Sea.

But for now, Kustner shows us that the Dead Sea remains very much a place of interest, with people from all over the world going there to swim in its salty waters.

The Dead Sea, known as the Salt Sea in the language of Hebrew, is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. And because of what has been happening over the years, the salt is only getting saltier.

1Which of the following is NOT a reason for the Dead Sea’s shrinking mentioned in the text?

A. Some of its water sources being diverted.

B. The extraction of the minerals in the sea.

C. Visitors from all over the world swimming in it.

D. The hot, dry climate in the Middle East.

2What can we learn about the Dead Sea’s minerals?

A. They have practical value.

B. They are controlled by Israel.

C. They can be extracted very easily.

D. They are mainly used in heavy industries.

3What does the underlined word “replenish” in Paragraph 6 probably mean?

A. To clean something. B. To improve something.

C. To fill something again. D. To find something again.

4What would be the best title for the text?

A. What we should do to save the Dead Sea

B. More people travel to the Dead Sea

C. Why the Dead Sea is salty

D. The Dead Sea is drying out.

【題目】In today’s Internet age, online games can be a change from the pressure of school and work. However, they can also cause problems and unhealthy addictions. This is most clearly seen in the example of South Korea. This country has the world’s highest percentage of high-speed Internet services. It has also a high number of game players who are addicted to online games.

In 2004, a young man died after playing online games almost nonstop for 86 hours. A 12-year-old boy stole $16,000 from his father to continue online games which he could not get away from. Such problems are spreading to other parts of Asia as well. In 2005, it was reported that about 80 percent of China’s 13.8 million online game players were under 25. And many of these were said to be addicted(上癮). Such numbers point toward a growing problem among Chinese youth.

Dr. Sue – Huei Chen, a psychologist, discovered some signs of at-risk people. Such people often go online to escape from their problems. And they usually have no friendship or good social skills. They feel the need to spend more and more time online, so they may be absent from school or family. And they become upset if anyone tries to limit their online game playing.

1The passage is mainly about ________.

A. online games B. problems caused by online games

C. computer problems in Asia D. problems caused by young people

2In the passage, the writer tells us a fact that ________.

A. South Korea has the largest number of Internet schools in the world

B. More and more young men are stealing money for online games

D. Online game addiction is a very common problem in South Korea

3According to the passage, ________ are more likely to become addicted to online games.

A. people with unsolved problems and few friends

B. people well known in the field of computer games

C. people under great pressure from school and work.

D. people who’d like to take a risk in computer games
