Young children from poor families are more likely to buy junk food and fizzy drinks(汽水)than their richer companions. They also drink less milk and buy more fruit juice which is linked to child obesity(月巴胖)caused by high sugar intake.

A companion study also found children from poor families are more likely to eat chips, sweets and chocolate. Professor Kate Storey said, "When you are looking at that age group, and find that so many young kids in the study are drinking a large amount of soda, it is quite worrying."

The researchers carried out the study by surveying the parents of their participants to find out their eating habits. Professor Storey said, "If you are drinking a lot of soda and fruit juice, you'll drink less water and milk, which are important not just for ending thirst, but for developing healthy bones and teeth, as well as health and wellness in general."

Co-researcher Dr John Spence said, "Eating habits and intake patterns are influenced heavily by what happens in the first few years with children, and they maintain those patterns throughout childhood and into adolescence (青少年時(shí)期)."in addition to basic health education, this study identifies a need in how we are dealing with poverty and recognizing there is more to poverty than simply the number of dollars people have.

Professor Storey said that shows how education can make a difference and lead to healthier eating habits, regardless of what is happening at home. "Many families live in places that might not be very healthy for them and, as a result, they make unhealthy food choices. You can start making a difference in different places. It calls for action in schools and communities. That light-bulb moment can happen in variety of places," Professor Storey added.

Yang Li, a five-year-old girl living next door to me, very clever. Because she is not old enough to go to the school, she often asks me to teach herself to read, write and draw. She studies hardly and soon she learns a lot. One evening last month I was doing my English homeworks when she came to my house. She asked me how I learned English. " You would find English a bridge for so much knowledge," I said. She then wanted to learn English, either. She has learned many English words so far but her parents are very grateful to me.

第I卷(選擇題共62分)

I.閱讀理解(共兩節(jié),滿分32分)

第一節(jié)(共11小題;每小題2分,滿分22分)

A

Football, to me, is more than just a game. I have probably learned more than valuable lessons from it than from school.

When I joined the team freshman year, I didn't realize what I was get?ting into. Even though I had been playing since fourth grade and knew it was hard work, nothing would prepare me for the effort I would put into football that year. We worked all summer in the weight room and ran on the track to get in physical and mental shape before the season.

See, football is more of a mental(腦力的)sport than anything else, so running on the track wasn't only about getting in shape. We would push our minds by running as hard as we could even if we felt like we were going to pass out. At the beginning, I was immature(幼稚的)and only thought of myself, sometimes even giving up when I was tired or hurting. Then after the third game I had a season-ending injury. Imagine working all summer and then only being able to play three games! I needed an operation on my arm and at least five months to recover.

After freshman year I decided that I would always give my best effort. Playing football in the college has taught me so much more than just what my tasks are on a particular play or how to block. I have learned to think about others first, and realized how important working hard is. Being with all my friends, even sweating and bleeding with them, really made us unite as a group of hard-working young men, who will succeed in life.
