9.In Shanghai's Grand Theater,a fashionable, mainly young audience applauds enthusiastically as Guo Yong takes center stage. He holds a large bushy tree branch with leaves.Blowing on one of the leaves,he produces a sound like the singing of birds as he plays a traditional Buyi folk song. Some other musicians are also playing the traditional instruments from various ethnic groups in China.
It's the first time such music has ever been performed in the Grand Theater. But all this is the efforts of Zhu Zheqin,a Cantonese-born singer, who has made it her mission to help preserve China's traditional ethnic music.
In 2009,after being appointed a United Nations Development Program ambassador,Zhu traveled through some of China's remotest regions in an attempt to document the traditional music of various minority groups. In the course other four-month trip, she recorded more than a thousand songs. But she noticed that many of the best musicians were old,and some of the music was at risk of dying out.
"I was shocked by the beauty of what I heard-it was so good,"she says."But it needed support.I hope to let people see the beauty of these things in the contemporary times."
So Zhu decided to introduce some of the musicians to a wider audience.By doing this, she hopes to rekindle(點燃) the interest of the younger generation."Young people don't like this music much; they prefer pop music and love songs. They think these songs are something their grandma sings. This kind of repackaging gives young people a new door into their heritage."
Zhu believes China needs to look again at its own roots."China today is basically all Western art; in our conservatories (音樂學院) Western classical music is the top,"she says."For China to really contribute to the world,we need to go on our own path.So what can represent China today?"The answer, she suggests,is to move from"made in China"to"created in China".

The most popular of these personality tests is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).It is based on the theory that we are born with a tendency to one personality type which stays more or less fixed throughout life.You answer 88questions and are then given your"type",such as Outgoing or Quiet,F(xiàn)eeling orThinking.

Our interestin personalitynow existsin every part of our lives.If you ask an expert for advice on anything,you'll probably be quizzed about your personality.But if personalitytestshaveanyvaluetous,perhapsitisto free us from the idea thatallofusarefullofpotential,and remind us of what we are.Astheysayinonetest when they ask for your age:pick the one you are,not theone you wish you were.

The study,published in the Archives of Dermatology,shows that smoking affects the skin all over the body-even skin protected from the sun.
"We examined non-facial skin that was protected from the sun,and found that the total number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day and the total years a person has smoked were linked with the amount of skin damage a person experienced,"Dr.Yolanda Helfrich of the University of Michigan,who led the study,said in a statement.
"In participants older than 65years,smokers had significantly more fine wrinkling than nonsmokers.Similar findings were seen in participants aged 45to 65years,"Helfrich"s team added in their report.
The researchers tested 82people,smokers and nonsmokers,taking pictures of the inner right arms. They ranged,in age from 22to 91and half were smokers.Independent judges decided how wrinkled each person's skin was.
When skin is exposed to sunlight, notably the face,it becomes coarse, wrinkled and discolored with a pale yellow tint,Helfrich's team wrote.
Several previous studies have found that cigarette smoking contributes to premature(過早的)skin aging as measured by facial wrinkles, the study said, but little has been done to measure the aging of skin not exposed to light.
The report did not discuss die mechanism involved but previous research has found that cigarette smoke, among other things, causes blood vessels (血管) beneath the skin to constrict (緊縮),reducing blood supply to the skin.
Smoking can also damage the connective tissue that supports both die skin and the internal organs,.
