【題目】Homestay provides English language students the opportunity to speak English outside the classroom and the experience of being part of a British home.

What to Expect

The host will provide accommodation and meals. Rooms will be cleaned and bedcovers changed at least once a week. You will be given the house key and the host is there to offer help and advice as well as to take an interest in your physical and mental health.

Accommodation Zones

Homestays are located in London mainly in Zones 2, 3 and 4 of the transport system. Most hosts do not live in the town center as much of central London is commercial and not residential. Zones 3 and 4 often offer larger accommodation in a less crowded area. It is very convenient to travel in London by underground.

Meal Plans Available

*Continental Breakfast

*Breakfast and Dinner

*Breakfast Packed Lunch and Dinner

It’s important to note that few English families still provide a traditional cooked breakfast. Your accommodation includes Continental Breakfast which normally consists of fruit juice, cereal, bread and tea or coffee. Cheese, fruit and cold meat are not normally part of a Continental Breakfast in England. Dinners usually consist of meat or fish with vegetables followed by dessert, fruit and coffee.

Friends

If you wish to invite a friend over to visit, you must first ask your host’s permission. You have no right to entertain friends in a family home as some families feel it is an invasion(侵犯) of their privacy.

Self Catering Accommodation in Private Homes

Accommodation on a room-only basis includes shared kitchen and bathroom facilities (設(shè)施) and often a main living room. This kind of accommodation offers an independent lifestyle and is more suitable for the long-stay student. However, it does not provide the same family atmosphere as an ordinary homestay and may not benefit those who need to practice English at home quite as much.

【題目】Tea,the most typical English drink, became established in Britain because of the influence of a foreign princess,Catherine of Braganza, the queen of Charles II.As a lover of tea since her childhood in Portugal, she brought tea-drinking to the English royal court and set a trend forthe beveragein the 17th century. The fashion soon spread beyond the circle of the nobility to the middle classes, and tea became a popular drink at the London coffee houses where people met to do business and discuss events of the day. Many employers served a cup of tea to their workers in the middle of the morning, thus inventing a lasting British institution, the“tea break”. However, drinking tea in social settings outside the workplace was beyond the means of the majority of British people. It came with a high price tag and tea was taxed as well.

Around 1 800,the seventh Duchess of Bedford,Anne Maria, began the popular practice of“afternoon tea,”a ceremony taking place at about four o’clock.Until then, people did not usually eat or drink anything between lunch and dinner. At approximately the same time, the Earl of Sandwich popularized a new way of eating bread—in thin slices, with something like jam or cucumbers between them. Before long,a small meal at the end of the afternoon, involving tea and sandwiches, had become part of the British way of life.

As tea became much cheaper during the 19th century, its popularity spread right through all corners of the British society. Thus, tea became Britain’s favorite drink. In working-class households,it was served with the main meal of the day, eaten when workers returned home after a day’s labor. This meal has become known as“high tea”.Today, tea can be drunk at any time of the day,and accounts for over two-fifths of all drinks consumed in Britain-with the exception of water.

A. Its popularity in Europe.

B. Its development in Britain.

C. Its influence around the world.

D. Its traditional ways of drinking.

2Why was tea unable to be accepted as a common drink in Britain in the 17th century?

A. It was merely served in London.

【題目】More than 30,000 people went to the White House on Monday for the 136th Easter Egg Roll (復(fù)活節(jié)滾彩蛋). President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama held the event by inviting thousands of kids to color and look for eggs. The theme(主題) of the day was “Hop Into Healthy, Swing Into Shape.” It was part of the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” program to reduce obesity rates (肥胖率) among American kids. Mrs. Obama spoke to young reporters about her goal(目標(biāo)) to get children to eat right and keep moving.

“We are working to make sure that kids born today grow up healthy, learn how to have balanced meals, and get more physical activity into their lives,” she said.

Mrs. Obama said she wants children across the nation to understand that "exercise isn't just hard work, it's play. If you’re running around with your dog, you're getting exercise. If you walk up the stairs, that's exercise, But if you’re sitting in front of the TV or on a computer game, you're not exercising.”

The First Lady said that for kids who have balanced meals most of the time, having a special snack, like chocolate, will not hurt." And if you are active, you can splurge (揮霍) a little more," she said. Mrs. Obama’s favorite "splurge food" is French fries. But she balances her splurging by exercising almost every day. She loves to play tennis and she practices yoga.

“A lot of kids look up to(敬仰) athletes, and I think it's important for athletes to share their good habits,” Mrs. Obama said. "Kids aren’t just going to wake up and be LeBron James. He's practicing and eating right and working out and training. 【題目】Is reading better than watching TV? I believe it is. Is reading better than playing video games? I’m not so sure if it is. If learning is important to you, but not necessarily so, and if pleasure is what you want, these activities can be pleasant in their own way. Reading might be better than many activities if you want to educate yourself and improve your chances of succeeding in your work.

If you’re serious about creating the habit of reading, what’s important is finding a time you can read every day-often that’s early morning or late at night, or both. For others, it might be during their lunch break. You only need to read for 10 to 20 minutes a day to form the habit. Then, you need to find a place that’s comfortable. Make sure it has good lighting, the temperature is nice and you’re in a good chair. Or you can find some place that you can reiax in without failing asleep, although there’s nothing wrong with a sleep.

Next, be sure to shut off the TV, Internet, cell phone, radio, or other music .Let reading be a quiet time. Mark an “x” on your calendar every day you read, and try to keep your unbroken “x”es going as long as possible. A habit is much easier to form if it’s something you enjoy, not something you are made to do. So make the time you spend reading a joy. I’ve been a lifelong reader, so the pleasure of a good book is one of my favorite things in the world. I love to lose myself in the world of a book.

1The importance of reading depends on .

A. what you’re going to read B. why you want to read

C. where you decide to read D. when you begin to read

2If you want to create a habit of reading, the first thing to do is to .

A. ask the writer for some advice B. find a comfortable place

C. make a proper time plan D. mark an “x” on the new calendar

3While you are reading, you’d better .

A. make sure you are alone B. mark a big “x” in your notebook

C. find a good chair with good lighting D. be concentrated and quiet

4Reading may become your habit more easily when .

A. it is something you enjoy

B. you don’t use Internet or cell phones

C. your unbroken “x”es last for a long time

D. you spend 10 to 20 minutes reading after lunch
