With the development of modern technology, there are a plenty of ways for us to contact people. WeChat is probably our favorite, mainly because of its convenient. We can keep in contact with friends whenever it is and wherever we are as long as Wi-Fi is available. Another advantage is it is a relative cheap and quick way of communication. As messages get send and received instantly, the cost of making phone calls is cut down. Besides, music as well as pictures and videos are often downloaded through WeChat, but it is now a useful entertainment tool. However, problems exist at the meanwhile. For example, your identity can be easily revealed, so we should pay attention to protect our personal information.

【答案】①去掉plenty of前a
②convenient改為convenience
③advantage is 后加上that
④relative改為relatively
⑤send改為sent
⑥videos后are改為is
⑦but改為so/and
⑧at the meanwhile改為in the meanwhile
⑨your改為our
⑩protect改為protecting
【解析】①固定搭配:plenty of 足夠、大量,故去掉plenty of前a。
⑥music是句子主語,as well as pictures and videos是同位語,所以后面的謂語動詞與music保持一致,故把videos后are改為is。
⑦句意:音樂以及圖片和視頻往往是通過微信下載,并且它現(xiàn)在也是一個有用的娛樂工具。根據(jù)句意可知,此處表示因果或遞進關(guān)系,故把but改為so/and。
⑧固定詞組:in the meanwhile與此同時,故把at the meanwhile改為in the meanwhile。
⑨句意:我們的身份能很容易被透露。與上下文保持一致,故把your 改為our。
⑩固定結(jié)構(gòu):pay attention to doing sth.故把protect改為protecting。

There's no one reason why women return to school. Going back to school provides private and public benefits. College graduates, generally enjoy higher salaries, (employ) more consistently, and work in nicer conditions. College-educated people vote more, give more to charity, and rely (little) on government support.
Making the switch from (support) to supporting oneself can be a challenge, often a necessary one. Financial (dependent) for women is key, says Nancy Schlossberg, professor at University of Maryland. “I think important for women to do some direct achievement, because chances are that women will live alone in later life, either divorced never married.”
To Schlossberg, education is critical in the long run. She says, “You are going to do much better than before you have a good education; you are going to be happier than before on condition that you have education that enables you to do what you have to do in life. The question is you are ready at this time to go for it.

【題目】For over one hundred and fifty years, Americans of all social classes have worn blue jeans. Since they were invented by Levi Strauss, they have become a symbol of American consumer culture. Whether they are worn for work or for fashion today, Strauss’ invention continues to be popular not only among Americans but also among people around the world.

Levi Strauss was born in Germany in 1829.1 He grew up in Kentucky before moving to New York in 1847. Before becoming an American citizen and moving to the West in 1853, Strauss worked in his brother’s dry goods business. This gave him a chance to produce his famous invention. After the gold rush of 1849, Strauss decided to move to the West to seek his fortune.

Strauss did not want to be a person who searched an area for minerals. Instead, he knew he could make a good living by selling supplies to the miners. At first, he planned to sell sewing supplies and cloth.2When he heard miners complaining that their clothes were easily broken or they usually tore their pockets during mining, he decided to use a special fabric to make pants for the miners. These pants proved so popular that he quickly ran out of materials to make more.

In 1873, Strauss received a letter from a Jewish tailor named Jacob Davis who had invented a process of connecting pockets with copper rivets(鉚釘). This made the pants last a long time. Because Davis did not have the money to patent his idea, he offered to share it with Strauss if Strauss would agree to pay for the patent.3

By the time Strauss died in 1902, he had made a great contribution to American fashion.

He also made a great contribution to America's clothing industry. The business has been growing ever since and Levi Strauss' company is now one of the largest clothing companies in the world.

A.As a young boy, he moved with his family to the United States.

B. Nobody knew what kind of material was suitable.

C. He did and Levi jeans have been made with metal rivets ever since.

D. However, he did not get much business for those products.

E. As the business grew, Strauss got much money from it.

【題目】In Cairo, formal education is very important. There are twelve years of formal education in Egypt, and public schools are free, though the government does not have enough money. Many families can afford to send their children to private schools. Toward the end of high school, children planning to go to college should take an exam required. The results of that exam determine which college each student will attend and also which fields of study are open to that student. Top students can attend the American University in Cairo, which teaches its course in English. Other universities in the Cairo area include Cairo University, with over 30,000 students, Ain Shams University and Al–Azhar University. Many Children do not complete school or go on to college but learn a trade or apprenticeship in business instead.

Education comes from the family—this is where children learn about social values. The family is very important in Egyptian society. Though modern families are adopting the idea of the “nuclear family” common in the West, the traditional Egyptian family unit consists of parents, grandparents, children, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and all sorts of people. Even though the modern family unit tends to be smaller, families usually live close together and visit each other often.

Unlike in the West, children usually live with their parents until they get married, even through college. It is very rare that children move out and establish their independence before they get married. Usually, this only happens if the child goes abroad to save money before getting married. Many young Egyptian men work for a few years in the rich countries of the Persian Gulf, where wages are much higher than they are in Egypt, and this allows them to have a better start when they return to Egypt and get married.

A. some of them will decide not to attend university

B. all of them will take an exam for entering collage

2If you are an excellent student, you will _______.

A. be sent to American universities for study
