【題目】While everyone overthinks situations once in a while, some people are troubled by thinking all the time. Overthinkers rethink conversations they had yesterday, second-guess every decision they make, and imagine disastrous outcomes all day. Their minds are like a movie where they imagine their car going off the road or they replay distressing events over and over again. 1

Keep the focus on problem-solving

Keeping the focus on your problems isn’t helpful, but looking for solutions is. If it’s something you have some control over, consider how you can prevent the problem or challenge yourself to identify five potential solutions.

If it’s something you have no control over—like a natural disaster—think about the strategies you can use to cope with it. 2

Schedule time for reflection

Worrying about your problems for long periods of time isn’t productive, but brief reflection can be helpful. Thinking about how you could do things differently or recognizing potential traps to your plan, could help you perform better in the future.

Add 15 minutes of “thinking time” into your daily schedule. During that time let yourself worry, or think about whatever you want. 3

Learning mindfulness skills

It’s impossible to rehash(反復(fù)推敲)yesterday or worry about tomorrow when you’re living in the present. Mindfulness will help you become more aware of the here and now.

4 There are classes, books, apps, courses, and videos available to help you learn mindfulness skills.

5

Do this in your brain by changing your activity. Exercise, engage yourself in a conversation on a completely different subject, or work on a project that draws away your attention. Doing something different will put an end to the negative thoughts.

A. Change your attitude.

B. Change the channel.

C. When your time is up, move onto something else.

D. Just like any other skill, mindfulness takes practice, but over time, it can decrease overthinking.

E. Overthinking can become such a habit that you don't even recognize when you’re doing it.

F. There are four tips that can help you stop overthinking.

G. Focus on the things you can control, like your attitude and effort.

【題目】閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)所給情節(jié)進(jìn)行續(xù)寫(xiě),使之構(gòu)成一個(gè)完整的故事。

Early in the morning I went to the ocean beach to play my guitar. The usually crowded beach was deserted except for two people. On one side of the boardwalk (木板人行道) was a woman who was cleaning the beach with a broom; on the other side was a lone figure sitting and staring to sea. I chose a spot between them and began to play.

As I played, the woman with the broom swept her way right next to me. She stopped sweeping and leaned on her broom, smiling at me. She appeared to be homeless with dirty mismatched clothes.

“You sure play beautiful music.” she said. “I think my friend would like you music. I want to hire you to play for her.” She pointed to the lone figure staring out at the ocean, then produced a few coins from her pocket. “I don’t have much, and I know you’re worth a lot, but if I give this to you, will you play a song for her? She’s going through a lot. I know the music will make her feel better.”

I told her I’d be happy to play for free.

As we walked over to her friend, the Broom Lady told me that her friend had not talked for weeks. We approached, and the Broom Lady introduced me, “Annie, I got you a present to cheer you up. It’s a guitar man who is going to play a song specially for you.”

Annie didn’t move. She was wearing dark sunglasses and had an old coat pulled up to cover most of her face.

I sat next to Annie and played. As I played I put every thought into having good things happen for this woman. I played for quite a while.

Suddenly, Annie turned toward me and said, “You make it so beautiful. I can feel it inside my heart.”

【題目】 Researchers in Australia have discovered an effective new method to capture the atmospheric carbon dioxide that is damaging our planet and transform it into something solid, making it much easier to store.

Carbon capture isn’t new, but previous methods call for the gas to be compressed into liquid and then injected underground. Widespread usage of that technology has been locked by economic and environmental concerns due to possible leaks. Instead, in a study published in Nature Communications, the group details their sustainable and cost-effective plan for transforming CO2 into coal.

This new process involves a liquid metal catalyst( 催化劑 )that is efficient in conducting electricity. CO2 gas is dissolved in a container with some liquid. Once electricity charge is introduced, the CO2 begins to turn into solid pieces of carbon, which can be collected and stored.

What makes this particularly unique is that the entire process can occur at room temperature. Previous experiments have only shown a gas to solid conversion at extremely high temperature, which made it impossible on a large scale. Now, the researchers are hoping that their work will be used to create even further when it comes to carbon storage.

In an interesting side benefit, the solid carbon also works as an electrode( ), which opens up a world of possibilities. “A side benefit of the process is that the carbon can hold electrical charge, becoming a super battery, so it could potentially be used as a part in future vehicles,” explains Dr. Dorna Estrafilzadeh, a researcher. “The process also produces fuel as a by-product, which could also have industrial applications.”

1What can we know about the previous carbon capture methods?

A.People have to inject liquid to the gas.

B.The previous methods can be done easily.

C.The previous methods are not very popular.

D.People have widely accepted previous methods.

2What is the special part of the new method?

A.It needs electricity to make the process efficient.

B.It can be done in any kind of container.

C.It doesn’t need extreme temperature.

D.It can produce much solid carbon.

3What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.The method will make fossil oil disappear.

B.The method will influence the future industry.

C.The method will make developed countries more powerful.

D.The method will be used to make new vehicles.

4What is the best title for the passage?

A.How to change carbon into CO2.

B.A new carbon capture technology.

C.A new technology to get useful carbon.

D.Australia makes the world cleaner than before.
