閱讀并概括下面短文的內(nèi)容。

The moment we turn on our televisions we see the famous people not in movies or TV series but in advertisements of particular brands to promote them. Firms invest huge amounts in hiring the right famous people because they can help sell their products. Firms invest lots of money in associating their brands with qualities such as attractiveness and trustworthiness.

The use of celebrity endorsements (名人代言) proved to be a popular way to recognize the differences among similar products when consumers do not tell many actual differences among the products. An example of this can be seen by examining recent ads from both Pepsi and Coca-cola. Both have seemingly run out of things to say about their products so they rely heavily on celebrity endorsements.

Consumers use these products or purchase them because they have been endorsed by a celebrity. However, too much popularity of the celebrity sometimes makes the brand less noticeable. If a celebrity is involved in more advertisements, it tends to create confusion among the consumers and therefore it may create a negative effect on the understanding of advertisements and the brand.

讀寫任務(wù)

閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英語短文。

No wonder English poses(構(gòu)成)such a challenge to non-native speakers. This most global of languages has more words than any other, over 1 million according to the Global Language Monitor.Out of this number, the average American college student has mastered between 8,000-15,000.

Realizing that words are the building blocks of language, many Chinese students try hard to catch up.They make out long lists of words-often in alphabetical order-and simply memorize their definitions(釋義)and Chinese meanings.

The bad news is that definition memorization does them little good when it comes to college entrance tests like the SATs.For these tests, a student needs to understand, not simply parrot words studied.

The good news is that there are better ways to build an academic English vocabulary.

  Vocabulary learning system

The first thing to do is to develop an organized, but easy means of collecting and learning new words. We recommend a card system that includes the following information:

  Word-Simple Definition in English-Phrase or Sentence-Related Words-Synonyms(同義詞)and Antonyms(反義詞)-with a Chinese translation on the reverse(背面)of the card.

The advantage of this system is that with a single card, a student can learn not just one word but a group of related words.

Keep your cards on a detachable(可分離的)metal ring, so you can carry them around and add to your collection daily.

The Nigerian postal service has witnessed a reduction in the number of letters sent, especially by individuals, due to the alternatives of email and text.

“People prefer these over letters, because of the speed, although letters serve many purposes, other than conveying of messages", said Barry Varley Tipton, principal of Cherry Field College.

But some people think that the vanishing(逐漸消失的) art of letter writing has grave (嚴(yán)重的) consequences for students, teachers, the economy, society and the beauty of reading from loved ones, because letters in those days usually had a variety of styles .

A lover of letters writing, Hajiya Aisha refers to the occasions she has seen people enraged, because their connections at a cyber cafe took 56 seconds rather than the usual 36 hours. She says, “Although letters are slow, waiting for something good is not wholly a bad thing. Nothing beats a hand written letter.”

"When I was a graduate studying overseas twenty five years ago, my mother wrote to me daily. It was wonderful to receive those letters. They often said nothing more than everyone was thinking of me. I continue this tradition with several friends who are scattered worldwide. Hand written letters show the love that we have for family and friends. Email cannot replace the smile of actually getting the letter. The warm, sincere thank- you note, or the sweetly scented love letter we usually received and sent in those days is irreplaceable" she said.

Will electronic age stamps replace letters? Hopefully not, since it takes with it a culture rich in colour, history, and communication. Letters, like bits of ourselves, deserve to be stored away for future readers, giving them insight into details as small as the price and pattern of stamps, and as great as personal insights exchanged long ago.

閱讀下面的短文,然后按要求寫一篇150字左右的英語短文。
Mayor Bloomberg has been the mayor of New York City for nearly nine years, but for ten years he has been wearing the same shoes. This is really rare to be seen on a billionaire.
“The mayor owns two pairs of work shoes,” said the spokesman. “One day he’ll wear one, the next the other. When they got worn down, he has them repaired. He could buy any shoes he wanted, but he says since they are comfortable, and they work, there’s no need for a new pair.” According to the spokesman, the mayor saves in his footwear and he also keeps it up in his personal as well as governmental finance. “When he buys a cup of coffee, he chooses the smallest size. He buys only what he needs.”
Such is the mayor of New York City, who cares little about his shoes, avoids wasting money and focuses his attention on his work and his people in the city.
But what about our fellow students nowadays? Some wear super expensive clothes and shoes; besides, they buy as many as possible, far more than two pairs. They always want the latest, the newest and throw the old ones away though they haven’t worn them for many times.

科目:高中英語 來源:2010-2011學(xué)年廣東省中山市高三上學(xué)期聯(lián)考英語卷 題型:書面表達(dá)

閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英語短文。(滿分25分)

After my brother died in an accident , my mother was inconsolable(痛苦的,極其傷心的). I was only 4 years old at that time, but I still understood the seismic shift(地震的改變) in my mom’s attitude towards safety. Suddenly, everything around us was potentially dangerous.

I grew up with a lot of restrictions(限制)that were meant to protect me. I couldn’t walk home from school by myself even though everyone I knew already did. I couldn’t attend parties, or go to summer camp, because what if something happened to me. My life was divided into “things you should avoid” and “things you needed to do in order to have a good , long life”.

I became a natural worrier. I worried about things like getting cancert, losing my wallet, car accidents, and earthquakes-disasters big and small, real and imagined.

When I was 14, my mother died suddenly in a car accident. That loss, on top of my brother’s unnatural death, could have paralyzed(癱瘓) me. But at my mom’s funeral, I made a choice. I could either live out the rest of my life trying to be “safe” or I could be brave enough to live out a fulfilling, exciting and, yes, sometimes dangerous life.

I began constantly forcing myself to do the things that frighten or worry me. In fact, I’ve developed a rule for myself: If it scares(使….害怕) me, I have to do it at least once. I’ve done lots of things that my mom would have worried about: I’ve ridden a motorcycle, I’ve dived, I’ve tried rock-climbing, I’ve traveled a lot.

Courage(勇氣,勇敢) isn’t a natural attribute (性格) of human beings. I believe that we have to practice being courageous; using courage is like developing a muscle. The more often I do things that scare me, the more I realize that I can do a lot more than I originally thought I could. I’ve also come to believe that fear can be good thing if we face it.
