Hurricane Sandy was a hurricane that destroyed parts of the Caribbean and the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States during late October 2012, with minor impacts in the Southeastern and Midwestern states and Eastern Canada. Sandy, classified as the eighteenth named storm and tenth hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, was a Category 2 storm at its peak intensity. While it was a Category 1 storm off the coast of the Northeastern United States, the storm became the largest Atlantic hurricane on record. Previous estimates of losses due to damage and business interruption are estimated at $65.6 billion, which would make it the second-costliest Atlantic hurricane, behind only Hurricane Katrina. At least 253 people were killed along the path of the storm in eight countries.
Sandy developed from a tropical wave in the western Caribbean Sea on October 22, quickly strengthened, and was upgraded to Tropical Storm six hours later. Sandy moved slowly northward toward the Greater Antilles and gradually becoming stronger. On October 24, Sandy became a hurricane, made landfall near Kingston, Jamaica, a few hours later, entered into the Caribbean Sea again and strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane. On October 25, Sandy hit Cuba, and then weakened to a Category 1 hurricane. Early on October 26, Sandy moved through the Bahamas. On October 27, Sandy briefly weakened to a tropical storm and then restrengthened to a Category 1 hurricane. Early on October 29, Sandy turned from north to northwest and then moved ashore near Atlantic City, New Jersey, as a post-tropical cyclone with hurricane-force winds.
In the United States, Hurricane Sandy affected 24 states, including the entire eastern seaboard from Florida to Maine and west across the Appalachian Mountains to Michigan and Wisconsin, with particularly severe damage in New Jersey and New York. Its storm hit New York City on October 29, flooding streets, tunnels and subway lines and cutting power in and around the city. Damage in the US is estimated at over $63 billion.

試題解析:向人們具體介紹了颶風Sandy——它的產(chǎn)生、發(fā)展及它所帶來的危害。
1.Sandy, …was a Category 2 storm at its peak intensity”也就是說在它強度最強時達到了2類風暴。以及通過文章第二段具體對其發(fā)展的描述可知Sandy由“tropical wave”發(fā)展而來,加強后變成“a hurricane”,再加強到“a Category 2 hurricane”,然后減弱到“a Category 1 hurricane.”,接著減弱到“a tropical storm ”,所以最強的應是“a Category 2 hurricane”,故選擇D.
2.Sandy, …was a Category 2 storm at its peak intensity”及第二段中“Sandy … entered into the Caribbean Sea again and strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane. ”可知,Sandy在the Caribbean Sea加強到最強即a Category 2 hurricane,故正確答案為B.
3.Sandy developed from a tropical wave …, quickly strengthened, … and gradually becoming stronger. …became a hurricane, …and strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane.…and then weakened to a Category 1 hurricane. … briefly weakened to a tropical storm and then restrengthened to a Category 1 hurricane. …as a post-tropical cyclone with hurricane-force winds. ”,Sandy由“tropical wave”發(fā)展而來,加強后變成“a hurricane”,再加強到“a Category 2 hurricane”,然后減弱到“a Category 1 hurricane.”,接著減弱到“a tropical storm ”,后又增強到“a Category 1 hurricane”,最后變成了“a post-tropical cyclone with hurricane-force winds. ”,所以其變化的曲線圖應為B.(它應有兩個波峰,且第一個高于第二個)
4.Sandy——它的產(chǎn)生、發(fā)展及它所帶來的危害。所以正確答案為C.

China may be the world’s largest market for e-bikes, but Europe is fast catching up. The EU’s official statistics agency says the figure reached the one million e-bike mark two years ago, and sales have sharply increased since then.
When working errands (差事) around Berlin, Lutz, who usually works with horses, uses the company’s new e-bike that charges easily and has a range of 140 kilometers. “We found there was no parking spot problem or other worries. And on top of all this, we don’t pollute the environment. Petrol is also saved,” said Lutz Baddack, owner of Reitsport Baddack.
Unlike many other parts of the world, the EU does not require registration (登記) for e-bikes. Nearly half a million are expected to be sold in Germany this year, in all shapes and sizes.
It’s not just bike fans buying them. People who usually drive cars also use them occasionally,” said Stefan Gelbhaar.
Dealers say the elderly are also big customers. Sales of ordinary bicycles fell in Germany last year, but sales of e-bikes rose by eight percent. Sales figures are expected to keep rising. “In five years we will have the market share of 20 percent, maybe more,” said Marcus Kendler, owner of E-Motion. In the hillier parts, that figure has already been beyond it.
The sales of e-bikes in Germany have been much larger than those in any other country in Europe. But other countries are fast catching up. In Europe, with the various brands at the market and falling prices, e-bikes are here to stay and not just a repeated trend.

D. who live in the hillier parts
4.It can be inferred from the passage that _________.
