3.What will the future be like?
Answers can be very varied.According to popular science fiction,though,the future is not rosy.From The Hunger Games to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,Hollywood has presented us a rather bleak picture of the future,where human beings have to either fight against oppression and poverty,or battle super apes for world domination.
The dark settings can create heroic stories.Their negative visions of the future,however,"are limiting people's abilities to dream big or think outside the box,"according to Ed Finn,founding director of the Center for Science and the Imagination at Arizona State University(ASU).Science fiction,he told the BBC,should do more.
"A good science fiction story can be very powerful,"Finn explained."It can inspire hundreds,thousands,millions of people to get together to do something that they want to do."
In fact,it is not hard to spot once-imagined technology that has come true in our everyday lives.French writer Jules Verne(1828-1905),widely considered the father of science fiction,imagined many fascinating items in his work,such as submarines,air conditioning,helicopters,and missiles.
Indeed, you can already see the influence of science fiction in modern research,Braden Allenby, professor of engineering, ethics and law at ASU,told the BBC.
"Why do we end up with the technologies we do?Why are, people working on,for example, invisibility cloaks(隱身斗篷)?Well,it's Harry Potter, right? That's where they saw it,"he said.
Science fiction is not just creating interesting ideas and innovations(革新).Srikanth Saripalli,an ASU roboticist,believes that this writing can help to shape the future."If the government has to decide what to fund and what not to fund,they are going to get their ideas and decisions mostly from science fiction…rather than what's being published 1n technical papers,"he said.
Finn told the BBC that he has already changed how he sees what's next for society.
"I do feel more positive about our future,"Finn said."We desperately need better stories.If we want to have better futures,we need to have better dreams."
However,it's not only the job of science fiction writers to create a blueprint for the future.
Writers should work together"with the reader to think about how people working together might overcome problems,"Finn said.

Stephen Attenborough criticized some press reports, particularly an article in the Wall Street Journal, which described the 2013 goal as"yet another delay".
"This is a programme that can't have a hard-end date as safety is number one priority,"Mr.Attenborough said,"Our foot is flat on the gas.We have proven technology,we have a spaceport that opened last week, and the test flight programme is well advanced-----I don't think you can ask for a lot more from a programme like this.A delay is a strange word, and there is no delay."
Keith Colmer,a former Air Force test pilot, was chosen from more than 500 applicants, among them a handful of astronauts. The BBC,s Richard Scott was the first journalist to be allowed inside the Virgin Galactic spaceship.
Richard has held an official ceremony for the launch pad for the space tourism venture in the New Mexico desert on 18,October.He plans to take the first flight, accompanied by his children.
Mr.Attenborough said that although all of the future tourists were eager to take off to space, none were pushing for an early flight."They are willing to put a large a-mount of money up front because they trust us,because they know we will only take them to space if it's safe to do so,"he said.

8.William Butler Yeats,a most famous Irish writer,was born in Dublin on June 13,1865.His childhood lacked the harmony that was typical of a happy family.Later,Yeats shocked his family by saying that he remembered"little of childhood but its pain".In fact,he inherited (繼承) excellent taste in art from his family-both his father and his brother were painters.But he finally settled on literature,particularly drama and poetry.
Yeats had strong faith in coming of new artistic movements.He set himself the fresh task in founding an Irish national theatre in the late 1890s.His early theatrical experiments,however,were not received favorably at the beginning.He didn't lose heart,and finally enjoyed success in his poetical drama.
Compared with his dramatic works,Yeats's poems attract much admiring notice.The subject matter includes love,nature,history,time and aging.Though Yeats generally relied on very traditional forms,he brought modern sensibility(情感) to them.As his literary life progressed,his poetry grew finer and richer,which led him to worldwide recognition.
He had not enjoyed a major public lift since winning the Nobel Prize in 1923.Yet,he continued writing almost to the end of his life.Had Yeats stopped writing at age 40,he would probably now be valued as a minor poet,for there is no other example in literary history of a poet who produces his greatest works between the age of 50and 75.After Yeats's death in 1939,W.H.Auden wrote,among others,the falling liners:
Earth,receive an honored guest:
William Yeats is laid to rest.
Let the Irish vessel (船) lie
Emptied of its poetry.

25.According to these passage,what do we know about Yeats's life?C
A.Yeats founded the first Irish theater
B.Yeats stuck to modern forms in his poetry.
C.Yeats began to produce his best works from the 1910s.
D.Yeats was not favored by the public until the 1923Nobel Prize.
26.What kind of feeling is expressed in W.H.Auden's lines?D
A.Envy.B.Sympathy.C.Emptiness.D.Admiration.
27.What is the passage mainly about?A
A.Yeats's literary achievements.
B.Yeats's historical influence.

D.Yeats's national honor.
