It was a dreadfully cold and cloudy afternoon. I was on the bus with my children, aged four and two, 1(head) home when it started to rain. I realized this would mean a wet walk home 2 the bus stop.

3 my house was only two blocks away, it was not a pleasant walk with one small boy asleep in the pram (手推嬰兒車), the other one in a raincoat and no umbrella for myself. A pick-up truck passed us on the road. I tried to thumb a ride but failed. My little boy woke up with a start and began to cry. I 4(convince) that things might become worse and nobody would bother to help on such a terrible day. A few minutes later, 5truck drove by, but to my surprise, I saw it pulling back and the driver looking directly at us. A young man put the window down. “Hey, here’s an umbrella for you, please take 6.” He called out. I stood there7(astonish), barely believing that the man 8 existence was unknown to me only moments ago, could be so 9(consider). “Come on, give this to your mummy,” he said to my older son. I accepted the offer and expressed my gratitude to him.

This man might have needed the umbrella for himself later during the day but preferred to give it to me. It was a lesson to me 10 it’s possible to give without expecting anything in return.

I was on the bus with my children"可知,作者是帶著孩子坐公交車回家,因此,此處應(yīng)該是表示""(from)車站走回家。

主語I后缺少謂語動詞,be convinced that意為“相信……”,又由于全文都是過去時態(tài),故填was convinced。

根據(jù)here's an umbrella for you, please take it.(這里有把傘給你,拿去吧.)it指代前一句提到的雨傘。

英語強(qiáng)調(diào)句結(jié)構(gòu):It be+被強(qiáng)調(diào)部分+that/who+其他.被強(qiáng)調(diào)部分為a lesson,故填that。

It is/was +… who/that…

1. 如強(qiáng)調(diào)句型指現(xiàn)在或未來的情況用It is,指過去用It was。

e.g. It is I who/ that am wrong.

原句:I am wrong.

e.g. It was him who/that I saw the day before yesterday.

原句:I saw him the day before yesterday.

結(jié)構(gòu)、not only…but also...和as well as...等結(jié)構(gòu)。

e.g. It was only when I reread his poems recently that I began to appreciate their beauty.

It is not only he but also his parents who/that have been to Beijing.

e.g. It was in the street that I met him yesterday.

e.g. It was about 600 years ago that the first clock with a face and an hour hand was made.

e.g. It was because he was ill that died at once.

Pinyin is a successful tool, which 1 (teach) in China to school kids. It is not merely used by westerners like us. It has proved to be a useful tool for Chinese people 2 (they) to learn standard pronunciation in their early education.

The first step is to learn how 3 (pronounce) each letter in pinyin correctly and the meaning of the tone markers. Then you have to do 4 (drill) as many as you can. Turn that into a game. It can be 5 (much) fun than you would expect. Start 6 single syllables and do that a lot and then syllable pairs. Slowly move on to larger groups. Understand the initial, final and the tones.

But most importantly, 7 you need is good feedback. You’d better have someone that can correct your mistakes immediately.

Find a native Chinese, 8 can listen to you and correct you. If you take Chinese classes, the teacher will 9 (probable) have you do drills every class. Do this very seriously.

If you are self-studying, try to meet native Chinese people and ask them to give you some feedback. Otherwise, try to be self-critical and listen very carefully. Good 10 (listen) is more than 50% of what it takes to pronounce correctly.

In January, British actor Eddie Redmayne made headlines around the world as he became the latest member of smartphone refuser. “It was a reaction against being glued permanently to my iPhone during waking hours,” he explained, turning instead to an old-fashioned “dumb phone” handset that could only make and take calls.

He is not alone. There is a small but busy market for phones that are simple and cheap at a time when smartphones are becoming ever more complex and expensive. Basic phones — handsets with some basic functions such as playing music and accessing the Internet — are gradually being replaced by low cost smartphones, according to Francisco Jeronimo, research director for European mobile devices at IDC, the research group. But there is still a significant demand for older-style phones.

Strategy Analytics, a research group, estimates that 44,000,000 basic phones were sold in 2015, accounting for 2 percent of the global market. Some phonemakers, such as Sony and LG, have already turned their back on the market. But others like Microsoft and Samsung are still producing devices every year aimed at the basic phone market.

Many smartphone users beef about having to buy devices that are easily broken, require daily recharging and which will be replaced by a new, better version within a year. Even basic smartphones offer more functions that not many people need.

Some users buy phones with limited or no Internet connections in a conscious attempt to keep away from the modern digital world. Analysts say that there is a growing number of “second phoneys” who use an expensive smartphone during the day, but turn to cheaper, pocket-sized devices when they go out in the evening.

Light Phone founder Joe Hollier falls into this camp. He has developed a credit card-sized phone without a data connection and no extra functions other than to make calls. He describes a feeling of huge relief when the ability to check emails or status updates is removed. Light Phone functions as a companion device to a smartphone but Mr Hollier hopes it will also encourage people to unplug from the modern Internet world.

1What is the function of paragraph 1?

A. To lead to the topic. B. To summarize the whole passage.

C. To analyze the situation of phone usage. D. To deepen the theme.

2The expression “beef about” may be replaced by “________” in the passage.

A. care about B. approve of

C. complain of D. think over

3Joe Hollier developed the new card-sized phone to ________.

A. save money B. relax the mind

C. save time D. keep healthy

4What is the main idea of this passage?

A. Some people prefer basic phones to smart phones.

B. What are the functions of basic phones.

C. The old-fashioned phones have many advantages.

D. The future of smartphones is gloomy.

A decade ago, colored lights danced around the living room on New Year’s Eve and happy music was played. Upstairs, the children were asleep. But I wasn’t feeling happy. In mid-December, my husband and I had been informed that he had cancer and that he was going to die. He had less than a year left, the doctors said.

In the years since that painful season, I have come to look back upon New Year’s Eve as an ending and a beginning. New Year’s Eve brings a halt to the endless commitments that fill our daily lives and a chance to reflect.

New Year’s Eve is full of possibility and anticipation. What will be the surprising experiences and delightful successes in the coming year? But also, what disappointments are waiting for us in the next twelve months?

In many ways, New Year’s Eve and the days that surround it are a line between past and future. That line is made up of a series of moments of transition(過渡) that take us out of the old and into the new. Transition can be challenging for many of us. It’s about letting go of the familiar and diving headlong (迅猛地) into the unfamiliar.

Just as, back then, I had to face letting go of the life I had led with my beloved husband and stepping into a new world as a widowed mom. I find that each year I have to step out of the version of me that suited the year that is ending and ease into the version of me who will rise to the goals I am holding for myself for the year ahead.

Last year at this time, I sat in a chair in southern France and drank in the stillness(沉靜) and beauty of the countryside around me. The three children and I had brought into this world talked and laughed around the table beside me as we enjoyed a lunch of bread and cheese.

I was filled with a sense of joy and I had a glowing(熱情洋溢的) heart that was full of hope. It was another ending and another beginning. May we all transition into the best of what lies ahead. May we all find happiness this holiday season.

1What does the underlined word “halt” in Paragraph 2 mean most probably?

A.Stop.B.Beginning.C.Meaning.D.Tradition.

2What’s the main cause of the author’s unhappiness on New Year’s Eve a decade before?

A.The pressure she faced in her work.B.The health problem her husband faced.

C.The information received from her family.D.The relationship between her and her husband.

3What’s the author’s attitude towards the thing people should do at New Year?

A.Set challenging goals for the next year.B.Break with daily routines and form a new habit.

C.Spend more time with family members.D.Think about the past and get ready for the future.

4What’s the main purpose of writing the passage?

A.To memorialize her husband.B.To show how she got through a hard time.

C.To share her view of New Year’s Eve.D.To remind us that uncertainty is part of life.
