Every student may feel it a little difficult to improve their listening ability in English learning. Now I want to share some experience with everybody. I hope it can help you in a way.
First, listening skills and methods are very important. And I think you may turn to your teachers and classmates in time when necessary. Besides, don’t always practice listening only because listening and speaking are tightly connected. Only if your oral English is perfect is your listening ability perfect, too. So you need to practice listening and speaking at the same time. Third, make full use of all the resources of listening around you, such as listening to songs on the radio or the Internet and so on. They often play an important part in improving your listening ability.

【題目】So much to do, so little time. So much information, so little time to read it. In this age there is more information than ever before. There is not enough time to read everything we want to read. However, you can consume more information in shorter time through speed-reading.
The first thing about speed-reading is looking at the word and recognizing it. Don’t say the word in your mind, just look at it and recognize its importance. Later you will recognize clumps of four words or more to increase your speed. This is the first and most important step in speed-reading.

This is necessary if you want to recognize clumps of words. Lastly, you should be focused. It is hard to read with a lot of noise. Find a quiet place to read. This will help your understanding of the text.
You need something to guide your eyes while reading. You should use your finger. Move your finger smoothly across the page. Keep your eyes focused on the words as you recognize them while using your finger as a guide. This will increase your speed.
The third step is practice. Practice makes perfect. Read using different techniques, but make sure you understand what you are reading.

【題目】Driving to a friend’s house on a recent evening, I was attracted by the sight of the full moon rising just above my friend’s rooftop. I stopped to watch it for a few moments, thinking about what a pity it is that most city people --- myself included --- usually miss sights like this because we spend most of our lives indoors.
My friend had also seen it. He grew up living in a forest in Europe, and the moon meant a lot to him then. It had touched much of his life.
I know the feeling. Last December I took my seven-year-old daughter to the mountainous jungle of northern India with some friends. We stayed in a forest rest house with no electricity or running hot water. Our group had campfires outside every night, and indoors when it was too cold outside. The moon grew to its fullest during our trip. Between me and the high mountains lay three or four valleys. Not a light shone in them and not a sound could be heard. It was one of the quietest places I have ever known, a bottomless well of silence. And above me was the full moon, which struck me deeply.
Today our lives are filled with glass, metal, plastic and fiber-glass. We have television, cell phones, electricity, heaters and ovens and air-conditioners, cars, computers.
Struggling through traffic that evening at the end of a tiring day, most of it spent indoors, I thought, “Before long, I would like to live in a small cottage. There I will grow vegetables and read books and walk in the mountains. And perhaps write, but not in anger. I may become an old man there, and wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled and measure out my life in coffee spoons. But I will be able to walk outside on a cold silent night and touched the moon.”
【1】The best title for the passage would be _________.
A. Break away from Modern life
B. Touched by the Moon
C. A Bottomless well of Silence
D. The Pleasures of Modern Life

A. there was too much pollution.
B. there were too many accidents on the road.
C. he failed to see the fullest moon.
D. he didn’t adapt to modern inventions
【3】Modern things are mentioned mainly to ___________.
A. show that the writer likes city life very much.
B. explain that people have less chances to enjoy nature.
C. tell us that people greatly benefit from modern life.
D. show that we can also enjoy nature at home through them.
【4】The author wrote the passage to __________.
A. show the love for the moonlight.
B. want to communicate longing for modern life.
C. advise modern people to learn to live.
D. express the feeling of returning to nature.

【題目】Dr. Michael Prager, a leading Botox expert, said that a growing number of women are developing something called “computer face”. He also mentioned that professionals who worked long hours in front of a screen were ending up with saggy jowls(顎骨), “turkey neck” and deep-set wrinkles on their forehead and around their eyes.
The Botox expert said that, of all his clients, office workers were most likely to show premature(過(guò)早的)signs of ageing. “If you are one of the unfortunate people who frown(皺眉)while you are concentrating on the screen then, over time, you will inevitably end up with frown lines,” Dr. Prager said. “What is perhaps more surprising is the number of women with saggy jowls because they are sitting in one position for so long. If you spend most of the time looking down then the neck muscles shorten and go saggy, eventually giving you a second neck. “
Dr. Prager, who has a practice near Harley Street in London, said he encourages his clients to put a mirror next to their computer so they can see if they are frowning at the screen. “When people are stressed or thinking hard about something, then they will often put on a ‘grumpy(脾氣暴躁的)face’ without even knowing what they are doing. When my clients put a mirror next to their desk, they are often shocked by the angry, frowning face which stares back at them.”
He said, “The women I am seeing at the moment have only been using computers at work for the last decade or so. But women in their 20s have grown up with them and use them for every single task. I think the problem is going to become much, much worse. In another ten years, they could be looking quite awful.”
Dr. Prager said there were several simple steps which could avoid “computer face” such as regular screen breaks and stretching the neck muscles. And, of course, there was always Botox. He said that, after a couple of sessions of Botox, the habit of “grumpy face” could be broken.
【1】In what way do women develop a “computer face”?
A. Frowning every now and then.
B. Concentrating on computers frequently.
C. Working for too long in front of a screen.
D. Sitting in the same place for a long time.
【2】According to the passage, which of the following are signs of ageing?
A. Saggy jowls and short necks.
B. Turkey neck and frown lines.
C. Deep-set wrinkles and angry faces.
D. Second neck and stressed muscles.
【3】From the last 2 paragraphs, we can learn that ______.
A. “computer face” is avoidable
B. we should give up using computers
C. we should break the habit of “grumpy face”
D. the younger generation is worse at computers
