Some futurologists have assumed that the vast increase of women in the workforce may portend(預示)an increase in divorce. The opposite of this concern is that the outlook of becoming a multi-paycheck household could encourage marriage. The earning ability of a woman can make her more attractive as a marriage partner.
The increase in divorce rates follows to the increase in women working outside the home. Yet, it may be wrong to jump to any simple cause-and-effect conclusions. The effect of a wife’s work on divorce is no less cloudy than its effect on marriage decisions. The realization that she can be a good provider may increase the chances that a working wife will choose divorce over an unsatisfactory marriage. But the reverse is equally reasonable. Tensions grounded in financial problems often play a key role in ending a marriage. By raising a family’s standard of living, a working wife may strengthen her family’s financial and emotional stability.
Psychological factors also should be considered. For example, a wife blocked from a career outside the home may feel caged in the house. She may view her only choice as seeking a divorce. On the other hand, if she can find fulfillment through work outside the home, work and marriage can go together to create a stronger and more stable union.
A working wife may rob a husband of being the master of the house. Meanwhile, an attractive woman who finds her value in work may play an important role in a stable marriage. Depending upon how the couple reacts to these new conditions, it could create a stronger equal partnership or it could create new insecurities.

A.they feel that they have been robbed of their freedom |
B.they are afraid of being bossed around by their husbands |
C.they feel that their partners fail to live up to their expectations |
D.they tend to suspect their husbands loyalty to their marriage |
A.The stability of marriage and the divorce rate may reflect the economic social position of women. |
B.Even when economically independent, most women have to struggle for real equality in marriage. |
C.In order to secure their marriage women should work outside the home and remain independent. |
D.The effect of the growing female workforce on marriage varies from case to case. |

Camping wild is a wonderful way to experience the natural world and, at its best, it makes little environmental influence. But with increasing numbers of people wanting to escape into the wildness, it is becoming more and more important to camp unobtrusively(不引人注目的) and leave no mark.
Wild camping is not permitted in many places, particularly in crowed lowland England. Wherever you are, find out about organizations responsible for managing wild spaces, and contact them to find out their policy about camping and shelter building. For example, it is fine to camp wild in remote parts of Scotland, but in England you must ask the landowner’s permission, except in national parks
Camping is about having relaxation, sleeping outdoors, experiencing bad weather, and making do without modern conveniences. A busy, full-equipped campsite seems to go against this, so seek out smaller, more remote places with easy access to open spaces and perhaps beaches. Better still, find a campsite with no road access: walking in makes a real adventure.
Finding the right spot to camp is first step to guaranteeing a good night’s sleep. Choose a campsite with privacy and minimum influence on others and environment. Try to use an area where people have obviously camped before rather than creating a new spot. When camping in woodland, avoid standing dead trees, which may fall on a windy night. Avoid animal runs and caves and possible homes of biting insects. Make sure you have most protection on the windward side. If you make a fire, do so downwind of your shelter. Always consider what influence you might have on the natural world. Avoid damaging plants. A good campsite found, not made-changing it should be unnecessary.
1.You needn’t ask for permission when camping in____.
A.national parks in England
B.most parts of Scotland
C.crowded lowland Britain
D.most parts of England
2.The author thinks that a good campsite is one_____.
A.with easy access
B.used previously
C.with modern convenience
D.far away from beaches
3.The last paragraph mainly deals with____.

B.building a campfire
C.camping in woodland
D.finding a campsite with privacy
4.The passage is manly about____.
A.the protection of campsites
B.the importance of wild camping
C.the human influence on campsites
D.the dos and don’ts of wild camping

The summer I was ten, my mother decided to bring us to the world of art. My brother and I were not very excited when we realized what my mother meant. What she meant was not that we could take drawing classes or painting classes but that we would have to spend one afternoon a week with her at the Fine Arts Museum. Before each visit to the museum, she made us read about artists and painting styles. It was almost as bad as being in school. Who wants to spend the summer thinking about artists when you could be with your friends at the swimming pool?
First we had to read about ancient Egyptians(古埃及人) and their strange way of painting faces and then go to look at them at the museum. My 12-year-old brother thought this was so funny, but I was not interested. Later we had to learn about artists in the Middle Ages who painted people wearing strange long clothing. We had to look at pictures of fat babies with wings and curly hair and with no clothes on flying around the edges of paintings. I certainly couldn't see what was so great about art.
On our last visit to the museum, something happened when I saw a painting by a woman called Mary. In it, a woman was reading to a child. The colors were soft and gentle, and you could tell by the mother’s expression how happy she was just to be with the child. I couldn't stop looking at this painting! I wanted to see every painting Mary had ever made! It was really worth looking at so many paintings to find a painter who could interest me so much.
1.The aim of the mother’s plan was to _________.
A. take them to visit the museum
B. introduce them to the world of art
C. ask them to read about artists
D. show them different painting styles
2.What was the writer’s experience in the museum before the last visit?
A. She came to feel her mother’s love.
B. She liked many paintings.
C. She hardly enjoyed herself.
D. She could understand the pictures of fat babies.
3.What made the writer go through a change that summer?
A. One of Mary's paintings.
B. A strange way of painting.
C. Artists in the Middle Ages.
D. Her mother’s instruction.
4.From the text, we can see _________.
A. the importance of curiosity
B. the effect of art
C. the value of learning
D. the power of family education
5.The writer and her brother had thought that they could ___________ in their summer vacation.
A. visit some art museums
B. go to Egypt for a visit
C. take drawing or painting classes
D. play with their friends.

People with disabilities make up a large part of the population. It is estimated(估計) that over 35 million Americans have physical, mental, or other disabilities. About half of these disabilities are “developmental", i.e., they occur before the individual's twenty-second birthday, often from genetic conditions, and are severe enough to affect three or more areas of development, such as mobility, communication, employment, etc. Most other disabilities are considered “adventitious", i.e., accidental or caused by outside forces.
Prior to the 20th century, only a small percentage of people with disabilities survived for long. Medical treatment for these disabilities was unavailable. Advancements in medicine and social services have created a climate in which people with disabilities can expect to have such basic needs as food, shelter, and medical treatment. Unfortunately, these basics are often not available. Civil liberties such as the right to vote, marry, get an education, and gain employment have historically been denied on the basis of disability.
In recent decades, the disability rights movement has been organized to fight against these infringements(違反, 侵犯)of civil rights. Congress responded by passing major legislation recognizing people with disabilities as a protected class under civil rights statutes.
Still today, people with disabilities must fight to live their lives independently. It is estimated that more than half of qualified Americans with disabilities are unemployed, and a majority of those who do work are underemployed. About two-thirds live at or below the official poverty level.
Significant barriers, especially in transportation and public awareness, prevent disabled people from taking part in society. For example, while no longer prohibited by law from marrying, a person with no access to transportation is effectively excluded from community and social activities which might lead to the development of long-term relationships.
Only when public attitudes advance as far as laws have will disabled people be fully able to take their rightful place in society.
1.A “developmental" disability ______.
A.develops very slowly over time |
B.occurs in youth and affects development |
C.is caused by forces |
D.is getting more and more severe |
2.Most disabled people used to die early because ______.
A.disabilities destroyed major bodily functions |
B.medical techniques were not available |
C.they were not very well looked after |
D.they were too poor to get proper treatment |
3.In the author's opinion, to enable the disabled people to take their rightful place in society, ____.
A.more laws should be passed |
B.more public facilities should be set up |
C.government should provide more aids |
D.public attitudes should be changed |
4.Which of the following cannot be inferred from the passage?
A.Many disabled people may remain single for their whole life. |
B.Discriminatory(帶歧視性的)laws prevent the disabled from mixing with others. |
C.The public tends to look down upon the disabled people. |
D.The disabled people feel inferior to(低于)those surrounding them. |
5.The best title for this passage might be ______.
A.Handicaps(障礙)of People with Disabilities |
B.The physical difficulties of the Disabled |
C.The Causes for Disabilities |
D.Medical Treatments for Disabilities |
