5.It happened to me recently.I was telling someone how much I had enjoyed reading Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father and how it had changed my views of our President.A friend I was talking to agreed with me that it was,in his words,"a brilliantly (精彩地)written book".However,he then went on to talk about Mr.Obama in a way which suggested he had no idea of his background at all.I sensed that I was talking to a book liar.
And it seems that my friend is not the only one.Approximately two thirds of people have lied about reading a book which they haven't.In the World Book Day's"Report on Guilty Secrets",Dreams From My Father is at number 9.The report lists ten books,and various authors,which people have lied about reading,and as I'm not one to lie too often (I'd hate to be caught out),I'll admit here and now that I haven't read the entire top ten.But I am pleased to say that,unlike 42percent of people,I have read the book at number one,George Orwell's 1984.I think it's really brilliant.
The World Book Day report also has some other interesting information in it.It says that many people lie about having read Jane Austen,Charles Dickens,F(xiàn)yodor Dostoevsky (I haven't read him,but haven't lied about it either) and Herman Melville.)
Asked why they lied,the most common reason was to"impress"someone they were speaking to.This could be tricky if the conversation became more in-depth!
But when asked which authors they actually enjoy,people named J.K.Rowling,John Grisham,Sophie Kinsella (ah,the big sellers,in other words).Forty-two percent of people asked admitted they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story (I'll come clean:I do this and am astonished that 58percent said they had never done so).

29.How did the author find his friend a book liar?D
A.By judging his manner of speaking.
B.By looking into his background.
C.By mentioning a famous name.
D.By discussing the book itself.
30.Which of the following is a"guilty secret"according to the World Book Day reportB?

B.42% of people pretended to have read 1984.
C.The author admitted having read 9books.
D.Dreams From My Father is hardly read.
31.By lying about reading,a person hopes toB.
A.control the conversation
B.a(chǎn)ppear knowledgeable
C.learn about the book

A.Favorable.
B.Uncaring
C.Doubtful
D.Friendly.

However,he then went on to talk about Mr.Obama in a way which suggested he had no idea of his background at all."
But I am pleased to say that,unlike 42 percent of people,I have read the book at number one,George Orwell's 1984.I think it's really brilliant.",并結(jié)合上文"The report lists ten books,and various authors,which people have lied about reading"可知作者不像42%的人一樣假裝讀過喬治•奧威爾(英國(guó)小說家)的《1984》,因此可推測(cè)出有42%的人撒謊說讀過《1984》,故選B.
Asked why they lied, the most common reason was to‘impress'someone they were speaking to."
I'll come clean:I do this and am astonished that 58 percent said they had never done so"可知作者對(duì)這些人說從未這樣做過表示很驚訝,因此可推知作者對(duì)這58%的人表示懷疑,故選C.

16.Which do you think is the best way to keep healthy?
With the development of the society, people no longer worry about where their next meal comes from as they did in the old days. They become more and more concerned about their health problem.Different people come up with different views:eating green food, doing outdoor exercises or going to hospital for medical treatment frequently. As far as I am concerned, the best way to keep healthy is to develop a good quality of psychology(心理).
According to some surveys, nowadays, most patients are not physically sick but mentally(精神上) ill. They feel the burden on their shoulders is much heavier than others,so they can't step out of the shadow of depression and sadness. They need to release their spirit to the nature.
Besides,if you have developed a good quality of psychology, you'll become more sociable and thus more willing to play your part in the society.Joining in some keep-fit clubs or attending some travel agency, which by themselves are various versions of physical exercise, will benefit you a lot.
As a poem says, youth is not a period of time; it's a state of mind.Everybody wants to keep young at heart because youth is a symbol for endless energy and passion for living.
Keep a good quality of mind,or keep a sense of humour, even if you are 80,and you'll never be old.

13.US scientists have performed an important reversal(逆轉(zhuǎn)) of the ageing process in animal studies. They used a chemical to rejuvenate(使年輕) muscle in mice and said it was the equivalent(等同于) of transforming a 60-year-old's muscle to that of a 20-year-old-but muscle strength did not improve.Their study,in the journal Cell, identified an entirely new mechanism(原理) of ageing and then reversed it.Other researchers said it was an"exciting finding".
Ageing is considered a one-way street, but now researchers at Harvard Medical School have shown that some aspects can be reversed.Their research focused on a chemical called NAD.Its levels naturally drop in all cells of the body with age.The team showed this damaged the function of the cell's in-built power-stations,leading to lower energy production and ageing.
Experiments showed that increasing NAD levels,by giving mice a chemical which they naturally change into NAD,could reverse the sands of time. One week of youth-medication in two-year-old mice meant their muscles became similar to those of a six-month-old.
Dr Ana Gomes, from the department of genetics at Harvard Medical School, said:"We believe this is quite an important finding."She argues muscle strength may return with a longer course of treatment. However, this could never be a cure-all for ageing.Other aspects such as shortening of telomeres or damage to DNA would not be reversed.
Dr Gomes told the BBC:"Ageing is multi-factorial,it's not just one component(成分) we can fix,so it's hard to target the whole thing.I believe there is a lot of cross-talk in cells and energy is very important in a cell and likely to be a very big component of ageing that might cause some of the other things that happen with ageing."
68.From paragraph 1 we learn thatD.
A.bones can be transformed
B.muscle strength can be transformed
C.color can be transformed
D.muscle can be transformed
69.From paragraph 2 and paragraph 3 we learn thatC
A.researchers think ageing is a one-way street.
B.NAD levels'dropping could make mice become younger.
C.increasing NAD levels could make mice become younger.
D.researchers think any aspect can be reversed.
70.Dr Gomes will agree thatB
A.we can target everything about ageing.
B.muscle strength may return over a longer course of treatment.
C.a(chǎn)geing could be cured.
D.energy is of little importance in a cell.
