◆Be mindful

2 It can be any routine activity you perform during the rush of the day, like hand washing. Slow down and give the task your full attention. You’11 soon start appreciating these small moments of stillness.

◆Follow the 60% rule

Perfectionism is an illusion, but the pursuit of it is real and can have damaging consequences.3 If a friendship, relationship, work project is 60% right, then you’re doing well.

◆Breathe

When things get too much, try the one-finger-on-the-nose breathing trick. 4 Then just breathe through the other nostril. By halving the rate at which you breathe, you lower your blood pressure and trigger(引發(fā)) body’s relaxation response.

◆Exercise

Breaking a sweat, ideally the first thing in the morning, releases a chemical in the brain to reduce pain, and which in large amounts can make you feel relaxed and energetic and sets you up for the day. 5

Trampolining

2 In 1942 they began making trampolines to sell to the public.

3 Experts find that more than 100,000 people hurt themselves while using one each year. Clubs and gyms use large safety nets or other equipment to make it safer. Most trampoline injuries happen at home. Since trampolines are more affordable than ever, injuries are even more common.

These injuries happen for many reasons. People may bounce too high and land off of the trampoline or onto the springs. 4 Perhaps the worst injuries happen when untrained people try to do flips(快速翻轉(zhuǎn)). Landing on your neck or head can cause injuries or even kill you.

But don’t let all that bad news keep you down. There are many things that you can do to practice safe trampolining. Trampolines have been around for a while now. They have brought a lot of joy to many people. They can be a good source of exercise and activity. 5 But they can also be deadly. It is important to follow some professional guidance. Paddy wiped the tears from his face and said. “Fee dear, pack your things. We’ll go to see him.”

She half-rose before sinking back, her eyes in her small white face stared as if dead. “I can’t go,” she said without a hint of pain, yet making everyone feel that the pain was there. “It would kill him to see me. I know him so well— his pride, his ambition. Let him bear the shame alone, it’s what he wants. We’ve got to help him keep his secret. What good will it do him to see us?

Paddy was still weeping, but not for Frank, for the life which had gone from Fee’s face, for the dying in her eyes. Frank had always brought bitterness and misfortune, always stood between Fee and himself. He was the cause of her withdrawal from his heart and the hearts of his children.

Every time it looked as if there might be happiness for Fee, Frank took it away. But Paddy’s love for her was as deep and impossible to wipe out as hers was for Frank.
