【題目】閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英語短文。
How early must a student begin preparing for an international education? Lisa Jain, the representative of The College Board in India showed her idea here clearly.
Many students who want to study abroad believe they need to start planning for it only in Grade12. What they don’t realize is the amount of time, thought, and effort it requires. That is why a student should begin the ground work in Grade 10 in order to gain a clear understanding of what the college application process requires and to be prepared to deal with the pressures that will follow.
Focus on school grades and marks. It is important to try your best to perform well in academics throughout high school and not just in Grade 12.
Start gaining experience. Get involved in a small number of activities over a long period of time, such as a sport, the arts, writing, research, community work, etc, through which you create impact in the activity, climb to a leadership position, grow as a person and develop skills. Picking something in Grade 12 and claiming it’s your passion won’t work.
Begin research. Which country do you want to apply to colleges in? What do you want to study at college? Researching early and start reflecting on what you’d enjoy learning will make the college and major selection process less overwhelming in Grade 12.
All your efforts in Grade 10-11 will help ease your burden in Grade 12. If you do everything at the right time, you will find the process enjoyable and realize there is hardly a reason to stress. Just remember: The early birds catch the worms!

【答案】
In the passage, Lisa Jain offered her advice for those wanting to study abroad, pointing out that, to be prepared, a student should begin the ground work early in Grade 10, like focusing on good grades from the very beginning.
The early birds catch the worms! What a thought-provoking proverb, which reminds us to plan ahead of time and make full preparations so as to achieve success. In my opinion, “the early birds” means the people who always make early plans and adequate preparations, and “catch worms” indicates catching opportunities and harvesting success. Just as another saying goes, opportunities are for those who are prepared. Only if a person has an early start to get everything ready can he possess the ability to seize the chance and accomplish his goal.
Yu Minghong, the founder of the famous educational institution New Oriental, is a good illustration of the truth that success lies in an early start and good preparations. When studying in Peking university, aiming to find a good job in Beijing after graduation, Yu Minghong decided to improve his major English. So, from the freshman year, he kept reciting words every day and stuck to it all the way through his college life. With an early start and constant efforts, by the time he graduated, he had become the student who had the largest vocabulary among his classmates, which contributed directly to his good grades in English and thus he successfully became an English teacher in Peking University and later set up the well-known school. Undoubtedly, it was his “being the early bird” that brought him his success today.
Therefore, be an early bird, and you will find it pays off. But how? First of all, a clear goal is essential, which will lead us to where we want to go. Secondly, plan the day and manage our time. Early birds never fails to carefully plan and make the best of his time. And then painstaking efforts follow.

【題目】A little old couple walked slowly into McDonald’s on one cold winter evening. It seemed that they didn’t come to the right place with the young families and young couples eating that night.
The little old man walked right up to the cash register,I placed his order with no hesitation and then paid for their meal. The couple took a table near the back wall and started taking food off the tray. There was one hamburger, one order of French fries and one drink. The little old man unwrapped the plain hamburger and carefully cut it in half. He placed one half in front of his wife. As the man began to eat his few bites of hamburger, the crowd began to get restless. You could tell what they were thinking,“That poor old couple. All they can afford is one meal for the two of them.”
As the man began to eat his French fries, one young man stood and came over to the old couple’s table. He politely offered to buy another meal for the old couple to eat. The old man replied that they were just fine. They were used to sharing everything.
As the little old man finished eating and was wiping his face neatly with a napkin, the young man could stand it no longer. Again he came over to their table and offered to buy some food.

【題目】Upon entering college, Yang Yi was uncertain about a lot of things. However, the 19-year-old international economics and trade student was certain about one thing: She wanted to participate in animal welfare efforts.
“I'm .always a nature and animal lover," she said. She joined the environmental protection association at her school. Now being president of a group of 25, she leads its efforts to help stray(流浪)cats and dogs by raising money to buy them food and collecting old clothes to make them homes.
However, sometimes the association raises doubts. Some students have questioned whether helping stray animals breaks the laws of nature. "We tried to resolve the controversy," Yang said. “For wild animals, the best way to protect them is to preserve their environment and their natural habitat, and to let them live their own way. However, for animals that depend heavily on humans, such as dogs and cats, the proper way to treat them is to respect them and take care of them." Besides, if not accommodated properly, stray animals can bring threats to public health, as they are the main cause of rabies(狂犬病)in cities. "Now, many young people in China have agreed upon the need to strike a balance between humans and nature. The only problem is how," said Yang. Yang and her fellow volunteers are cautious about what they do to help. For instance, sometimes people feed stray cats human food such as chocolate. But Yang and her friends point that such food can be dangerous to stray cats.
Yang also cooperates with Non-Governmental Organizations to spread animal protection knowledge. One of their recent exhibits was about animals in the entertainment industry. "We are still figuring out the best way to protect animals, but simple deeds such as saying no to animal performances can prevent wildlife from being captured and tamed. Step by step, we'll eventually reach our goal," she said.

【題目】Do you know how it is when you see someone yawn and you start yawning too? Or how hard it is to be among people laughing and not laugh yourself? Well, apparently it's because we have mirror neurons(神經(jīng)元)in our brains.
Put simply, the existence of mirror neurons suggests that every time we see someone else do something, our brains imitate(模仿)it, whether or not we actually perform the same action. This explains a great deal about how we learn to smile, talk, walk, dance or play sports. But the idea goes further: mirror neurons not only appear to explain physical actions, they also tell us that there is a biological basis for the way we understand other people.
Mirror neurons can undoubtedly be found all over our brains, but especially in the areas which relate to our ability to use languages, and to understand how other people feel. Researchers have found that mirror neurons relate strongly to language. A group of researchers discovered that if they gave people sentences to listen to (for example:“The hand took hold of the ball”), the same mirror neurons were triggered as when the action was actually performed (in this example, actually taking hold of a ball).
Any problems with mirror neurons may well result in problems with behavior. Much research suggests that people with social and behavioral problems have mirror neurons which are not fully functioning. However, it is not yet known exactly how these discoveries might help find treatments for social disorders.
Research into mirror neurons seems to provide us with ever more information concerning how humans behave and interact(互動).Indeed, it may turn out to be the equivalent(相等物)for neuroscience of what Einstein's theory of relativity was for physics. And the next time you feel the urge to cough in the cinema when someone else does—well, perhaps you'll understand why.
【1】Mirror neurons can explain ________.
A.why we cry when we are hurt
B.why we cough when we suffer from a cold
C.why we smile when we see someone else smile
D.why we yawn when we see someone else stay up late
【2】The underlined word “triggered” in the third paragraph probably means “________”.
A.set off
B.cut off
C.built up
D.broken up
【3】We can learn from the passage that mirror neurons ________.
A.relate to human behavior and interaction
B.control human physical actions and feelings
C.result in bad behavior and social disorders
D.determine our knowledge and language abilities
【4】What is the passage mainly about?
A.Ways to find mirror neurons.
B.Problems of mirror neurons.
C.Existence of mirror neurons.
D.Functions of mirror neurons.
