【3】surrounding

【4】delivered

【5】Being brought up

【4】have sth.done是固定搭配,意思是:讓某事被做。

【5】分析句子結(jié)構(gòu),可知空格處是本句的主語部分。分析句意,可知Mr.Wilson是在鄉(xiāng)村里被撫養(yǎng)長大的,而且必須用ing形式作主語,故用ing形式的被動(dòng)是being done 充當(dāng)主語,故答案為Being brought up。

【題目】Everyone knows how the story of Cinderella does everything from sweeping the floor to cooking the meals before she meets the prince. If someone asked Cinderella, “Are there any kinds of household work that you particularly hate?” She probably would answer , “Why , none , of course. Housework is my duty!” In the real world, however, most people have certain dislikes for some kinds of household work. Two of these tasks are ironing(熨)clothes and washing dishes.

Ironing clothes is most hated because it is not a task that can be completed quickly or thoughtlessly. Each piece of clothing must be handled(處理)separately, so ironing a basket of them can take hours! If you do not follow directions carefully, it might become wrinkled and you have to start over. Perhaps that is why ironing is not a favorite thing to do. It calls for extreme attention to detail from beginning to end.

Another household job that many people dislike is washing dishes. Of course, some people claim that this work is no longer a problem because , we have dishwashers now! However, no one would argue that dishes, silverware, and especially pots and pans washed in a dishwasher don’t come out as clean as they do when washed by hand. For this reason, many of us continue to wash our dishes. And it is a job that not only takes a lot of energy but also requires the patience to wash and dry them. In addition, unlike ironing clothes, washing dishes is a thing that usually must be done every day. I don’t know how Cinderella felt about this particular task, but I believe that most people hate it as much as I do.

1For Cinderella, doing household work is __________.

A. what she hates to do

B. what she is responsible for

C. what she loves to do

D. what she is content with

2Most people hate to do clothes-ironing because _________.

A. it takes a lot of time

B. it has to be done by one person

C. it must be handled skillfully

D. it needs careful planning

3Many people still prefer washing dishes by hand to machine washing because _________.

A. hand washed dishes are cleaner

B. dishwashers are not so easily handled

C. some dishes cannot be washed by machine

D. washing dishes by hand is cheaper

4Ironing is different from washing dishes in that _________.

A. it requires patience

B. it is not a daily housework

C. it is not tiring

D. it needs less care

Could Organizing Your Home Change Your Life?

Marie Kondo is an expert on organizing and cleaning. She is considered an expert on clearing away unused or unnecessary things, better known as clutter. Actually, she did write a book on the issue, which is called “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”. 【1】 It has sold more than 2 million copies.

Marie Kondo says people can improve their lives by changing the way they think about all their stuff-- everything from books, documents and photographs to clothing and personal mementoes. 2 And this is pretty good.” Ms. Kondo writes.

This is not the first time an organizing expert has written a book on clutter. Other books suggest wonderful things will happen when you organize your home. One book says that if you throw out 50 things from your home, you will actually find your life 3 And still others promise a better job, more money and a perfect family if you simply organize the things that fill your life. 4 She told the Business Insider website that some of her clients have lost weight. “Your self-perception is improved by living in a clean and neat room,” she said. “This can change lifestyles and, in turn, appearances.”

Marie Kondo teaches a method of organizing she calls KonMari. It is more of an event or ceremony. This is the part that followers say makes it more lasting. Ms. Kondo says KonMari creates a different relationship between you and your possessions. If the object meant something to you or served you well, you thank it for its service before throwing or giving it away. In her book, Ms. Kondo suggests that you touch the item and ask one simple question: "Does it bring me joy?" 5

A. Her book is a best-seller around the world

B. Marie Kondo makes some of the same claims
