We chat with our colleagues all the time when we have lunch, gossip in the tearoom, or leave work together. Sharing your personal life brings you closer to your coworkers and builds trust within your team. But revealing too much about yourself to colleagues, managers or human resources staff can cause difficulties and even endanger your work.
It's important to keep the right balance between getting along with colleagues and maintaining your privacy. “Communication in the office is tricky and complicated. You can neither spread chatter, nor be too silent and shut yourself off from others,” said Yang Yudan, deputy HR director at P&G.
According to her, there are several safe topics to talk about with colleagues during the break, such as the weather or movies. Women like to talk about makeup and clothing, while men are fond of sports and online games. But discussing your private life, such as relationship, habits or health conditions, is a potential minefield.
Liang Kun, 26, had to resign from his job at a trading company in Guangzhou last week after discussing his income with colleagues during a lunch break. “I didn't realize it was such a serious issue until a senior member of staff went to find the boss, asking why I got a higher salary than her,” said Liang. “Then our HR told me that according to the employee handbook it is forbidden to talk about salary in the office.” HR expert Yang also reminds us that paychecks are your own business. It is unwise to share this information with others, no matter how close you are.
To summarize, Yang advises office workers to be more aware of the image they project when talking to colleagues, “When you share your personal life, it will be recorded on your invisible resume and may slow down your career progressing.”

A.show his admiration for her

小題2:What can be inferred from the fact that Liang Kun had to resign his job according to the text?
A.It was unwise for him to share information with others.
B.He broke the rules made by the company.
C.He was such an honest person that he told the truth.
D.He treated his colleagues as family members.
小題3:What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To draw people's attention to their behaviors in public.
B.To advise office workers to be aware of the image they project.
C.To make you believe that communication in the office is complicated.
D.To warn you to be careful of invisible trouble while talking about your privacy to colleagues.

B.Keep the Right Balance
C.Share Your Personal Life with Others
D.Safe Topics to Talk about

小題1:C

小題3:D
小題4:A

小題1:答案:C 推理判斷題。文章第二段和第三段論述的中心是第二段的“It's important to keep the right balance between getting along with colleagues and maintaining your privacy.”由此可推知,作者引用Yang Yudan的話是為了支撐自己的觀點。故答案選C項。
小題2:答案:B 推理判斷題。根據(jù)文章第四段的“...said Liang.‘Then our HR told me that according to the employee handbook it is forbidden to talk about salary in the office.’”可知,Liang Kun從公司辭職是因為他違背了公司的制度。故答案選B項。
小題3:答案:D 寫作目的題。文章的最后一段總結全文,根據(jù)最后一句的“...‘When you share your personal life,it will be recorded on your invisible resume and may slow down your career progressing.’”

The idea for the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone came to Joanne Kathleen Rowling in 1990. It took her seven years to finish writing it. During those seven years she had a number of jobs, including one job as an English teacher in Portugal.
Rowling sent the book to four publishers before one of them bought it. She was very happy to sell her book because it was her life's dream to be a published writer. The younger daughter of former New York Mayor Richard White has moved her wedding from New Year’s Eve to this Thursday so her mother, who has been fighting against cancer for 11 years, can take part in the ceremony, a family spokesman said on Wednesday, Oct, 12, 2013. Elizabeth Lally White, who turns 28 on Thursday, will marry Sam Peterson in Spiaggia, a restaurant on North Michigan Avenue. The reception also will be held at the restaurant, which had been previously scheduled to host the couple’s engagement party on Thursday.

Lally White’s mother, Maggie, 68, was reported to have caught breast cancer in 2002. She had an operation in her leg in April and she was hospitalized twice in the weeks following the procedure for treatment of flu-like symptoms that doctors said were not related to the cancer. Maggie, who has used a walker or a wheelchair during most public appearances in recent years, is well beyond the average survival time for someone with breast cancer.
“As the mayor himself has said, she had a pretty difficult summer.” said Jacquelyn Heard, who served Mayor White’s press secretary for years and followed him to the same international law firm that he joined after leaving office in May. “She was not able to get around the way that she normally would do. This year, she has had quite a few setbacks and they’ve been pretty well documented. Lally White decided to reschedule the wedding so that her mom can participate in the festivities (慶祝活動).” Heard said. Lally White is a doctoral candidate at De-Paul University and plans to work with autistic (孤獨癥) children, and Sam Peterson works in insurance, Heard said.
Richard and Maggie White married in 1972 and had three children in addition to Lally — Nora, Patrick and Kevin. But Kevin was born with a disease and died in 1981 at 33 months.

A.She was afraid that her mother couldn’t participate her wedding on New Year’s Eve.

Have you ever had travel problems because your airplane was late? It is a common problem and it is getting worse. Airport delays make people angry and cost the country billions in lost work time.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the government agency that oversees air travel. They studied the problem of airline delays.
They found eleven major problems and suggested eleven ways to fix them. Some of the problems are caused because different regions of the country do things differently. The regions don't talk to each other enough. Some of them need new computers.
Also, more planes are flying. A strong economy has more people using airplanes to get around. Airplanes are a form of mass transportation now, like trains and buses were in the past. More planes in the airport cause delays.
The airport in San Francisco is a good example. It is growing fast. Many people go through San Francisco to get to other places around the world. Ron Wilson of the San Francisco International Airport says, “If you've got 18 flights that all want to take off at 8:00 am and you're on the 18th plane in line, you're going to be 40 minutes late.”
Weather is another main reason for delays. Weather causes about 70% of delays. Fog or freezing rain can cause delays.
The first thing the FAA wants to do is take control away from the regions during heavy traffic times and bad weather. A national center would make decisions on things that affect the whole country. The FAA also wants to put more distance between planes in the sky when the weather is bad. This rule could cause even more delays.
The FAA knows that their solutions will not solve the problems with airport delays. But, they hope to make things better. There are just too many planes, too few traffic controllers, and not enough new technology.

A.different languages
B.technical misunderstanding
C.misunderstanding of the rules
D.lack of communication
小題2:Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a reason for airline delays?
A.A growing number of flights.

D.Lack of new technology
小題3:From the passage we can infer that ________.
A.FAA is a national center which controls all the flight matters
B.FAA has taken control to solve airport delays
C.in San Francisco, each plane will delay about 40 minutes
D.safety rules during bad weather may cause more delays
小題4:Which of the statements best gives the idea of the passage?
A.FAA should make decisions to stop airport delays.
B.Airport delays are on the rise.
C.Travel problems cost billions in lost work time.
D.FAA has taken control of air traffic nationwide.

Last Friday, after doing all the family shopping in town I wanted a rest before catching the train, so I bought a newspaper and some chocolate and went into the station coffee shop. It was a cheap self-service place with long table to keep a place and went to get a cup of coffee.
When I came back with the coffee, there was someone in the next seat. It was one of those wild-looking boys, with dark glasses and old clothes, and his hair was colored bright red at the front. What did surprise me was that he’d started to eat my chocolate.
I was rather uneasy about him, but I didn’t want to make more trouble. I just looked down at the front page of the newspaper, tasted my coffee and took a bit of chocolate.
