Many of us feel sleepy in winter, but other species often take it a step further and hibernate (冬眠). 1. The body slows down and breathing, temperature and metabolic and heart rate all decrease. Dormice (睡鼠) head underground and hedgehogs (刺猬) hunker down in their nests.

Hibernation seems to do them good. But human cannot bed down for long periods. 2. To work out why we do not, first we need to find out why animals do. The most obvious reason for hibernating is to avoid the cold. Conditions are harsh and there is little food to eat, as fewer plants are growing. 3. Then they live off body-fat reserves until it’s time to wake up.

But a 2015 study of dormice found that they continued hibernating even when cold conditions had ended. 4. The key issue seemed to be connected with their main food: beech trees. The dormice need their seeds to reproduce, or for the baby dormice to gain enough body fat. In a harvest year, they produce plenty of seeds. Somehow the dormice could predict it. Otherwise, they stop reproduction these years and increase their survival by staying underground.

5. By staying out of sight, the dormice avoided being hunted by their predators (天敵) like owls. Until recently people thought hibernation was just about energy saving, a defense against cold weather and food shortage, and now we think it’s more predator avoidance. The survival rates in hibernation are close to 100%.

A. So obviously there are other reasons.

B. They were hibernating underground to save energy.

C. Hibernation is an extended period of energy-saving state.

D. All kinds of animals hibernate, from insects to birds and primates.

E. Why, if it is so beneficial, do we not hibernate?

F. The dormice had another reason to stay underground.

G. So many animals fatten themselves up during summer.

We are more dependent on technology now than ever before-and for good reason. Our cell phones have more capabilities than laptops did 5 years ago. Technology is quickly becoming faster, more reliable, and yes, more portable.

Because of this, now is a great time to look into purchasing a laptop. Laptops now have the same computing power as desktops and are the least expensive they’ve ever been. If you’ re constantly on the go, it makes sense to have one.

We feature a lot of hot tech deals here at MakeUseOf, but if you’re in the market for a laptop, I've collected the top two laptop computers for you. I only looked at laptops priced under $1,000 that had at least 4GB of RAM, a dual-core processor, and came with Windows 7. Let’s see what we camp up with!

1. Sony Vaio FW 560F/T

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P7450/2. 13GHz

Memory: 6 GB(8GB Max)

Hard Drive: 500GB

This Sony Vaio laptop has a lot of features that make it very attractive. With a 16-inch screen, it is very slim. It has Blu-ray playback and decent gaming performance, although it doesn’t support 1080p. It makes for a very good multimedia notebook.

2. Samsung NP-R580-JSB1US

Processor: Intel Core i5 15-430M/2. 26GHz

Memory: 4 GB

Hard Drive: 500GB

This laptop comes with a Core i5 processor, NVIDIA graphics, and Blu-ray support. I’ve read that the touch-pad is uncomfortable at times, but the processing power and graphics make it a great laptop with decent battery life.

1.What is the normal memory of Sony Vaio FW560F/T?

A. 8G B. 5GB C. 4GB D. 6GB

2.What’s the similarity of Sony Vaio FW560F/T and Samsung NP-R580-JSB1US?

A. Processor B. Memory

C. Hard drive D. Features

3.The underlined phrase “ makes sense” in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by____.

If you haven’t heard of the expression, you must have been living under a rock for the past year, because“the world is big, and I owe it a visit” was all over the Internet last year.

This expression was chosen as one of 2015’s “popular cyber phrases” in China. When a year comes to an end, many institutions, including the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center, People’s Daily Online and CCTV, put together their lists of the Internet’s most used words and phrases.

Most of the selected words and phrases may seem funny and playful, but they can show lifestyle changes. The term “duoshoudang” meaning shopping addicts is a good example. The past year saw record-high online shopping sales in China, the world’s largest e-commerce market. In fact, according to Xinhua, e-commerce (電子商務(wù)) is “a new engine” for China’s economic development.

Meanwhile, although phrases like “xiasibaobaole” meaning “you scared the pants off me”may be a fun expression, they reflect the desire for attention now that social networking sites and apps such as weibo and WeChat have become part of people’s lives. “People now have a need to express emotion in bite-size, 140-character bits,” wrote The New York Times.

Here, Teens has picked some phrases from last year’s popular “cyber words” lists. Did you use them often?

The world is big, and I owe it a visit.

Seeing more of the world has become a hot topic for Chinese people in recent years. But never before had someone used it as an excuse to quit a job until Gu Shaoqiang did. The 35-year-old middle school teacher in Henan province struck a chord with (產(chǎn)生共鳴) the nation by posting her 10-word resignation letter: “The world is big, and I owe it a visit.”

The letter’s simplicity, honesty and bravery are what made it one of 2015’s top catchphrases (流行語), wrote Zhang Shixuan, a commentator for People’s Daily.

A pretty face can feed you, yet you choose to make a living off your talent.

Comedian Jia Ling is well known for her funny performances as well as her plump figure. So it came as a great surprise when a photo of her surfaced online, showing how slim and pretty she was in her younger years. In response, true to her humorous nature, Jia wrote this on Sina Weibo: “My story shows that I could totally have lived on my pretty face, yet I chose to rely on my talent.” Since then, the words have become popular when describing good-looking people who are still hardworking.

Other popular “cyber words” include “it’s your charm that matters”, “important things should be stressed three times”, “makers” (創(chuàng)客), “memeda”, a phrase to show cuteness and affection and “xiaoxianrou” referring to young and pretty men.

1.Which is the most popular network buzzword of 2015?

A. It scared me to death.

B. It’s your charm that matters.

C. Important things should be stressed three times.

D. It is not mentioned in the passage.

2.The underlined phrase“ living under a rock” is closest in meaning to ____________.

A. living far from satisfaction

B. living out your fantasy

C. living up to others’ expectation

D. living unexposed to the world

3.Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
