This could be the perfect gift for the partner, who embarrasses you on the dance floor. Smart socks, which can teach to dance, may be the answer for anyone with two left feet.
The socks have been developed as a running tool to help runners improve their skills. Thanks to the socks, users can accurately record not only how far and fast they run but also how well. It means the user maximizes their performance, and reduces damage to body and prevents hurt. The hi-tech socks are made of special fibers that watch the movements of your feet. They look, feel and can be washed like normal clothes.
Sensors (傳感器) record each movement and send it by an ankle transmitter (腳踝發(fā)射器) to a smart phone. Then a “virtual coach” application shows the information and can tell the user what they are doing wrong, and help to improve skill in any task with feet.
The socks should be useful to athletes and weekend joggers. “People think running is so easy and of course everybody can do it but not necessarily safely and well,” Dr Davide Vigano said. A recent study showed that between 60 and 80 percent of runners got hurt per year. This is pretty much more than any other human activity. Researchers say the technology can also be developed to teach people how to dance, play sports such golf, or even to help to teach women to walk better in high heels.
Mr. Vigano said, “People could all benefit from the idea. We have had interest from all sorts of sports, like skiing, football, cycling and golf. Anything where you have to use your feet can use it. It could even be put in high heels to help women walk in them safely.”
Socks are just the start, and the technology could be used in gloves, hats and boots. The socks, anklet and software package, are expected to be sold for around £120, which will go on sale in March.

Everyone can help to save the world
We are all environmentalists now. We all know about acid rain and the ozone hole. 1. As consumers we have the power to make decisions which will contribute to a better world and it is in our power to do what we can to protect the earth.
2. In this way we have the power to influence retailers (零售商) to sell us these so-called “green” products. Therefore, the supermarkets have understood the message and are now trying to improve their environmental image. They are turning to less wasteful and recyclable packaging. The range of “green” products will continue to expand to meet the growing demand. This message has also reached the manufacturers. 3. They have realized that protecting the environment may start as an advertising campaign but in the hands of intelligent people it can become a very profitable business. Besides, we can do more.
Furthermore, we also know there are other areas where all of us can make a positive contribution to a cleaner, healthier and safer environment. 4. There are a number of ways we can do this. For example, we now know how important it is to have our homes well insulated (隔熱). We should choose the best energy efficient technology, such as modern light bulbs which can reduce electricity consumption by 80% over the older ones. We must also work hard to reduce the amount of rubbish we produce. We all produce tons of rubbish and waste disposal has become a big problem. As an environmentally-conscious consumer we should buy products which do not have so much packaging. Also, we should try to avoid non-returnable goods at all costs. In Scandinavia and Germany, for example, plastic bottles and cans are now returnable goods.
In conclusion it is important to emphasize once again the rise of consumer power. We must realize that we are all part of the problem. 5.
A. We can all reduce energy consumption at home and so cut the emissions from power systems.
B. For example, when we walk into a supermarket we can choose to buy environmentally friendly products and reject products which damage our planet.
C. There are some other ways to protect the environment.
D. Companies are developing environmentally friendly products that maintain a high quality and a low price.
E. But what are we doing about these problems?
F. Nevertheless we must also realize that we have the responsibility to be part of the solution.
G. Everybody has the duty to contribute to a cleaner world.

“Beating is a sign of affection, cursing (罵) is a sign of love.”
Many may not expect to hear the words of the old Chinese saying in these modern times—with parents wealthier and better educated than they have ever been—but experts say they still ring true.
Today,it seems,Chinese parents are more likely to send their children to pre?college military academies in the United States in the hope that some tough love will pave the way to success.
“Good education doesn't mean letting your children enjoy privileges, especially our boys.” said Song Wenming,an entrepreneur (企業(yè)家) in Jinhua,East China's Zhejiang province. “They should be raised in tough conditions to know what to fight for in the future.”
In August,Song sent his 17?year?old son to Valley Forge Military Academy (VFMA) in Pennsylvania. And he is far from alone, even though it takes a lot of money—around $48,000 per year—to send a child to a strict military school.
Statistics show that an increasing number of Chinese students have been registering with such academies.
A few years ago, there were no Chinese students at Valley Forge. Today, there are 28. “All of the Chinese students at Valley Forge came from wealthy families;some of them were spoiled.” said Jennifer Myers, director of marketing and communications at the school.
Song's only son,Song Siyu, had a rocky start during his first six weeks at the school. The teenager said he went to the school voluntarily but did not expect it to be as difficult.
Now,three months later,he has perfected the art of taking a bath in 35 seconds, finishing a meal without looking at his food, and making his bed with precision. He can even take criticism,no matter how unreasonable.
“The training is hard but I know it is good for self?development of individuals.” said Song Siyu. “The endless training and scolding are just ways to build up our character;they are not personal.”
But his enthusiasm is not universal. Ten of the 13 Chinese students who joined the academy this year have transferred to other schools.
But for those who stick with it,there is a reward for all the hard work.
1.From the second paragraph,we can know the old Chinese saying ________.
A.is out of date in modern times

3.Song Siyu got some achievements in the military school except ________.
A.taking a bath in a short time
B.improving his character
C.taking unreasonable criticism
D.having his meal with his eyes closed
4.Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?
A.It's likely that more and more Chinese students will attend VFMA.
B.Most Chinese parents approve of educating their children by beating and cursing nowadays.
C.Song Siyu had no difficulty in adjusting to the life at VFMA.
