The Future Stars
General introduction
The Future Stars was set up in 1988 as a non-profit service center for child development devoted to providing quality childcare in a loving and educational environment for children 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Our funds mainly come from public donations.
A healthy curiosity about learning is the most important quality for early childhood development. We aim at offering high quality developmentally age-appropriate activities for early childhood, the most Important time of child development, so that they can do better after they start formal schooling.
Hours of operation
Childcare will be provided for the child from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday except for holidays. Children may not arrive before 7:00 am or remain after 6:00 pm. Should an emergency arise, the parent should immediately make us know in consideration of our work arrangements. A late charge of $ 1.00 per minute will be assessed if the child is not picked up by 6:05 pm. Charges for these services are to be paid directly to the staff person that has been looking after your child until your arrival, not to the center. Failure to pay late charges may affect continued services with the center.
Tuition (學費)
When it has been confirmed that a position is available for your child, you must pay a registration (注冊) fee of $200 per child.
The weekly tuition fee is $ 98.00. You can make payments either by credit card or in cash on Monday every week. If your payment is not made by Tuesday at 9:00 am, you will be charged a $ 25.00 late fee.
For more information, please call 434-293-6110 or visit www.childdevelopmentcenter.com.

Below is a selection about interesting hotels.
Tayka Hotel de Sal
Where: Tahua, Bolivia
How much: About $95 a night
Why it’s cool: You’ve stayed at hotels made of brick or wood, but salt? That’s something few can claim. Tayka Hotel de Sal is made totally of salt – including the beds (though you’ll sleep on regular mattresses(床墊)and blankets). The hotel sits on the Salar de Uyuni, a prehistoric dried-up lake, which is the world’s biggest salt flat. Builders use the salt from the 4,633-square-mile flat to make the bricks, and glue them together with a paste(糊)of wet salt that hardens when it dries. When there is big rain, the owners just mix up more salt paste to strengthen the bricks.
Green Magic Nature Resort
Where: Vythiri, India
How much: About $240 a night
Why it’s cool: Taking a pulley(滑輪)-operated lift 86 feet to your treetop room is just the start of your adventure. As you look out of your open window – there is no glass! – you watch monkey and birds in the rain forest canopy(罩棚). Later you might test your fear of heights by crossing the handmade rope bridge to the main part of the hotel, or just sit on your bamboo bed and read. You don’t even have to come down for breakfast – the hotel will send it up on the pulley-drawn “elevator”.
Dog Bark Park Inn B&B
Where: Cottonwood, Idaho
How much: $92 a night
Why it’s cool: This doghouse isn’t just for the family pet. Sweet Willy is a 30-foot-tall dog with guest rooms in his belly. Climb the wooden stairs beside his hind leg to enter the door in his side. You can relax in the main bedroom, go up a few steps of the loft(閣樓)in Willy’s head, or hang out inside his nose. Although you have a full private bathroom in your quarters, there is also a toilet in the 12-foot-tall fire hydrant(消防栓)outside.
Gamirasu Cave Hotel
Where: Ayvali, Turkey
How much: Between $130 and $475 a night
Why it’s cool: This is caveman cool! Experience what it was like 5,000 years ago, when people lived in these mountain caves formed by volcanic ash. But your stay will be much more modern. Bathrooms and electricity provide what you expect from a modern hotel, and the white volcanic ash, called tufa, keeps the rooms cool, about 65·F in summer. (Don’t worry – there is heat in winter.)
小題1:What is the similarity of the four hotels?
A.Being expensive.B.Being comfortable.
C.Being natural.D.Being unique.
小題2:What does the underlined words “Sweet Willy” refer to?
A.The name of a doghouse.
B.The name of the hotel owner.
C.The building of Dog Bark Park Inn B&B
D.The name of the hotel owner’s pet dog.
小題3:Which of the hotels gives you a feeling of living in the far past?
A. Tayka Hotel de Sal.                  B. Green Magic Nature Resort.
C. Dog Bark Park Inn B&B.               D. Gamirasu Cave Hotel.

55% of deaths caused by road accidents occur in the first few minutes after a crash. Up to 85% of these deaths could be prevented if first aid were given. The first person on the scene of a road accident will almost certainly be another road user. So as a driver your knowledge of first aid could make a real difference to someone in the event of a road accident.
Assess conditions
·Remain calm. Judge the scene and seriousness of the collision.
·Determine what has happened, how many people and vehicles are involved and the exact location.
·Determine how many casualties(傷亡人數(shù)) there are, what is the severity of the injuries, whether anyone is trapped, and whether there is a danger of fire.
Make safe
·Make sure you stay safe and keep off the road. If you need to stop or warn approaching cars, signal to them from the pavement. Wear reflective clothing, use warning triangles, flashing lights and warning lights. Don’t smoke.
·If you are in a car and you come across an accident, first park safely and turn off the engine before you get out to help. Use a triangle warning danger if necessary.
·Consider the safety of others. Don’t move the vehicles, look out for dangers — leaking fuel, chemicals, broken glass or dropping loads — guide uninjured passengers to a place of safety.
Call for help
Dial 999 (or 112) for the emergency services. If there is no phone nearby, send two people in opposite directions to seek help.
Do this as soon as you can or get someone else to do it while you deal with an injured person. You will need to tell the emergency services:
·where you are
·what has happened (describe the accident)
·how many people are injured
·whether they are breathing or bleeding.
The operator will talk you through what to do while you wait for an ambulance to arrive.
Apply emergency first aid
·Remain calm. Reassure the victims.
·Do not allow smoking or offer food or drink to casualties as this could hamper urgent medical treatment.
小題1:The passage mainly tells us ______.
A.how to reduce road accident deaths
B.how to perform first aid in a road accident
C.how to treat the injured people on the scene
D.how to protect us from being injured in an accident
小題2:When a driver is applying first aid, which of the following is proper?
A.Stand in the middle of the road to stop or warn approaching cars.
B.Leave the engine working when he gets out of his car to help.
C.Call 999 for an ambulance to come and leave the scene immediately.
D.Make sure the scene is safe enough and stay away from dangerous gas leaking.
小題3:What does the underlined word “hamper” mean in the last paragraph?
A.Affect.B.Improve.C.Demand.D.Judge.
小題4:The passage is most likely to appear in a newspaper’s ______ section.
A.business and financeB.sports and entertainment
