15.I will never forget what my old headmaster told me.Normally when you are only 15years of age you do not remember most of the things that are taught by your teachers.But,this particular story is one such lesson that I will never forget.Every time I am puzzled,I get reminded of this story.
It was a normal Monday morning at an assembly, and he was addressing the students on important things in life and about committing(專注) ourselves to what is important to us.This is how the story went:
An old man lived in a certain part of London,and he would wake up every morning and go to the subway.He would get the train right to Central London,and then sit at the street corner and beg.He would do this every single day of his life.He sat at the same street corner and begged for almost 20years.
His house was dirty,and a stench came out of the house and it smelled horrible.The neighbors could not stand the smell anymore,so they called in the police officers to clear the place.The officers knocked down the door and cleaned the house.There were small bags of money all over the house that he had collected over the years.
The police counted the money,and they soon realized that the old man was a millionaire.They waited outside his house in hope of sharing the good news with him.When he arrived home that evening,he was met by one of the officers who told him that there was no need for him to beg any more as he was a rich man now,a millionaire.
He said nothing at all; he went into his house and locked the door.The next morning he woke up as usual,went to the subway,got into the train,and sat at the street corner and continued to beg.
Obviously,this old man had no great plans,dreams or anything significant for his life.We learn nothing from this story other than staying focused on the things we enjoy doing,commitment.We should remain true to our course,although it may mean committing ourselves to things that people around us would normally disapprove.Just keep it in mind that commitment attracts wealth.

41.Why did the headmaster tell us the story?C
A.To enjoy ourselves.
B.To teach us how to make money.
C.To tell us the importance of commitment.
D.To tell us not to look down upon beggars.
42.According to the passage which of the following is TRUE?A
A.The old man made a living by begging.
B.The old man was excited to be a millionaire.
C.The old man became a millionaire by begging every weekday.
D.The old man planned to became a billionaire.
43.Why did the police officer clean the old man's house?D
A.Because the old man hired them to do so.
B.Because they wanted to know how much money the old man had begged.
C.Because the old man wanted to live comfortably.
D.Because the neighbors of the old man could not bear the smell coming out of the old man's house.
44.What can we learn from the passage?C
A.Where there is a will,there is a way.
B.Keep the general goal in sight while dealing with daily tasks.
C.Commitment contributes to wealth.
D.Living without an aim is like sailing without a compass.

We learn nothing from this story other than staying focused on the things we enjoy doing,commitment".

The neighbors could not stand the smell anymore,so they called in the police officers to clear the place"鄰居再也忍受不了這種味道,所以他們叫警察清理的地方;可知警察清掃老人的屋子是因?yàn)槔先说泥従硬荒苋淌芾先思依飩鱽淼臍馕;故選D.
44.C.細(xì)節(jié)理解題.根據(jù)文章最后一段"Just keep it in mind that commitment attracts wealth"只是把它記住,承諾吸引財富;可知們可以從這篇文章中學(xué)習(xí)承諾有助于財富;故選C.

F.reasons for failures in business

Road to Success
61.B
Many of the leading businessmen of Pittsburgh had a serious responsibility thrust upon them at the initial stage of their career. They were introduced to the broom, and spent the first hours of their business lives sweeping out the office.I notice we have professional sweepers now in offices, and our young men unfortunately miss that useful branch of business education. But if by chance the professional sweeper is absent any morning, the boy who has the genius of the future partner in him will not hesitate to try his hand at the broom. It does not hurt the newest comer to sweep out the office if necessary.I was one of those sweepers myself.
62.D
Assuming that you have all obtained employment and are fairly started,my advice to you is to be ambitious.I would think nothing of the young man who does not already see himself the partner or the head of an important firm.Do not rest content for a moment in your thoughts as head clerk,or foreman,or general manager in any concern,no matter how extensive.Say to yourself,"My place is at the top."Be king in your dreams.
63.C
Persistence is the consistent factor in most people who succeed,no matter what they are succeeding at.Yet,in the work place we often seem to forget to persist what we are doing. It's easy to get discouraged when you continually try to achieve something and it doesn't work out.But remember that if you try long enough, hard enough and make adjustments along the way, sooner or later you will get to your goal.
64.A
And here is another prime condition of success, the great secret:focus your energy, thought, and capital totally upon the business in which you are engaged.Having begun in one line, resolve to fight it out on that line,to lead in it,adopt every improvement, have the best machinery, and know the most about it.
65.F
The companies which fail are those which have scattered their capital, which means that they have scattered their brains also. They have investments in this,or that,or the other, here there, and everywhere."Don't put all your eggs in one basket."is all wrong.I tell you to"put all your eggs in one basket, and then watch that basket."Look round you and take notice, men who do that not often fail.It is easy to watch and carry the one basket. It is trying to carry too many baskets that breaks most eggs in this country. He who carries three baskets must put one on his head, which is easy to fall and trip him up.
To summarize what I have said:aim for the highest; never enter a bar room; never speculate; never indorse beyond your surplus cash fund; make the firm's interest yours; put all your eggs in one basket, and watch that basket; for as Emerson says,"no one can cheat you out of ultimate success but yourselves."
