I was born in Thailand, where I feel at home. I am used to jumping on to a song taow (red taxi), and squeezing (擠過) in between two strangers. I am used to bargaining at the market to get a shirt that I like. I love telling bilingual (雙語的) jokes and I am used to the surprised looks I get from the Thais when I can speak their language fluently.
Every two years my family goes to America for the summer, and every two years my world is turned upside down. The prices of everything are three times what they were in Thailand, but there is the sweet drink Dr. Pepper! And Bluebell Ice-cream! And everything you could imagine! I am amazed at it all, but the biggest change for me is the people. There are white people everywhere. I am not tall but average (中等的), my yellow hair is no longer out of place, and speaking English no longer draws looks. I should feel comfortable. I'm not out of place anymore, and nobody is looking at me, but I feel like they are. Now I feel out of place and different. I'm not used to giving people handshakes and hugs when I meet them for the first time. I get looks when I have trouble figuring out how much money to pay. I know different music, different places, and different fashion. I can't understand these people who have never left their town or city.
Still, there are quite a few perks about living overseas. I get to meet people from all over the world, and I know how to adjust to (適應) different cultures and places. I have been to places most people see only in geography books. Still, being so different makes it hard to know who you are. I'm not Thai, but I am not American either. I am a mix of both cultures, a third culture kid.
(1)When the Thais give the author surprised looks, she feels _____.
A.upset
B.strange
C.normal
D.different
(2)When the author returns to America, _____.
A.she makes more friends
B.she becomes more polite
C.she can't find what she needs
D.she is like a fish out of water
(3)The underlined word “perks” in the last paragraph can be replaced by _____.
A.reasons
B.problems
C.advantages
D.suggestions
(4)In this text, the author mainly wants to describe _____.
A.her different lifestyles
B.a kind of culture shock
C.a feeling of loneliness
D.her ability to face difficulties

【答案】
(1)C
(2)D
(3)C
(4)B
【解析】本文是一篇記敘文,一個長期生活在泰國的美國女孩描述了她回到了美國所經(jīng)歷的文化沖擊。

⑴考查推理判斷。根據(jù)第一段中的“in Thailand, where I feel at home.和I am used to the surprised looks I get from the Thais...”

When I spent the summer with my grandmother, she always set me down to the general store with a list. Behind the counter was a lady like no one I'd ever seen.
“Excuse me,” I said. She looked up and said, “I'm Miss Bee.”
“I need to get these.” I said, holding up my list. “So? Go get them. ” Miss Bee pointed to a sign. “There's no one here except you and me and I'm not your servant, so get yourself a basket from that pile.”
I visited Miss Bee twice a week that summer. Sometimes she shortchanged me. Other times she overcharged. Going to the store was like going into battle. All summer long she found ways to trick me. No sooner had I learned how to pronounce “bicarbonate of soda” and memorized its location on the shelves than she made me hunt for it all over again. But by summer's end the shopping trip that had once taken me an hour was done in 15 minutes. The morning I was to return home, I stopped in to get some run.
“All right, little girl,” she said. “What did you learn this summer?” “That you're a meanie!” I replied. Miss Bee just laughed and said, “I know what you think of me. Well, I don't care! My job is to teach every child I meet life lessons. When you get older you'll be glad!” Glad I met Miss Bee? Ha! The idea was absurd.
Until one day my daughter came to me with homework troubles. “It's too hard,” she said. “Could you finish my math problems for me?”
“If I do it for you, how will you ever learn to do it yourself?” I said. Suddenly, I was back at that general store where I had learned the hard way to add up my bill by myself. Had I ever been overcharged since?
(1)How did the author first shop in the store?
A.She shopped with her grandmother together.
B.Miss Bee gave her a hand.
C.She asked a servant to help her.
D.She served herself.
(2)What can we infer about Miss Bee?
A.Her tricks made the author finish shopping in a shorter time.
B.She neither shortchanged the author nor overcharged her.
C.Teaching kids lessons was Miss Bee's job at that time.
D.Miss Bee used to learn to pronounce the names of some goods in the store.
(3)The author mentioned her daughter to __________.
A.show her satisfaction with her kid's homework.
B.tell readers Miss Bee's effect on her.
C.inform readers of her irresponsibility for her kid.
D.express her opposition to Miss Bee.

【題目】Old-fashioned carpooling (拼車) where a group of people take turns driving each other to work has always faced a resistance. In a study by ABC News, 84%of those who drive to work say that they still do it alone. 1 For example, sometimes they simply cannot find anyone to share a ride with.

2 NuRide, a company providing online carpooling service, offers daily travelers not just a web-based list of would-be carpoolers but also a way to arrange a trip online. Here’s how it works: rider seekers enter the positions where their trip will begin and end, the time they want to leave and if they’re willing to drive or just ride in someone else’s car. The website’s search engine then looks for matches and makes lists of the names of traveling companions, along with the car model and the exact time and place to meet for each trip. 3 Then they meet their car mates when it’s time to go.

4 They are required to provide the name of their employer and a work e-mail address. Both need to be checked before being listed on the website.

So far, NuRide has arranged more man 50,000 rides on the website. 5

A. NuRide users aren’t riding with total strangers.

B. It has resulted in 1.4 million fewer miles driven.

C. They insisted that carpooling is just too inconvenient.

D. Now technology makes carpooling easier and more fun.

E. It is an environmentally friendly and economical way to travel.

F. Carpooling reduces travel cost, such as fuel cost and stress of driving.

【題目】根據(jù)短文內容, 填寫表格。
We are a primary school in England. Our students start arriving at our playground from about 8:45 a.m. Most of the children live nearby, so they walk to school. But some children have to travel to school by car. Each of the children is dressed in a school uniform (校服) and carries the homework and packed lunch in a schoolbag.
School starts at 8:55 a.m. The teacher on duty blows a whistle (哨子) and the children line up in their class groups. They wait quietly for the teacher to send them to their classrooms. When they arrive at their classrooms, the children empty their schoolbags and put their homework in their boxes. After the children take their seats, the teacher reads out each child's name in turn. Upon hearing his / her name, the child replies “yes, Mrs. (the teacher's name)” and the teacher writes down whether the child is in school or not.
And then at 9:10 a.m. the children attend an assembly in our main hall. They sit on the floor in rows with the youngest children at the front and the older children at the back. As the children enter the hall, they listen to music quietly. Each week we have a different musical theme (主題). Besides, the children also listen to stories.
After the assembly, the first lesson of the day begins at 9:30 a.m. Our morning lessons are usually English and Maths. Each of these lessons lasts an hour. Between classes, the children have their morning break from 10:20 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. They eat their snacks (小吃) or play games like football on the playground. At the end of the break, the teacher on duty blows a whistle. The children stand still and wait to be told to line up.
Each day, the children have their lunch break from 12 noon to 1:10 p.m. Most of the children bring their own packed lunches from home. A packed lunch usually consists of sandwiches, fruit, a drink and a packet of crisps. Some children have a school dinner cooked in our school kitchen. While the children are waiting to have lunch or after they have finished eating, they play games on the playground or attend lunch-time clubs. We have teachers on duty, who look after the children during lunch breaks. After the lunch break, the children have afternoon lessons, which continue until 3:15 p.m. when the children go home.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
The American believe that anybody can become President of the United States. In a recent Hollyhood comedy(喜劇), that is exactly what happens.
Dave Kovic, played by Kevin Kline, is a kind-hearted man who runs a business that finds people jobs. He leads a typical(典型的) American way of life, except for one thing— he looks exactly like the President, Bill Mitchell. In fact, the only thing that makes him different from the nation's leader is that he is very nice!
The president has started using look-alikes during some public appearance. Dave is offered a chance to “serve his country” by becoming one. However, things go wrong. The President becomes very ill and Dave ends up acting as the President forever.
Director Ivan Reitman, who made the popular and successful comedies like Twins, Ghostbusters and Legal Eagles, could have gone for easy laughs by making fun of the American government. Instead, Dave is an attractive comedy about an ordinary man in extraordinary situations. Kevin Kline gives a double performance as Dave and the President, and Sigourney Weaver is at her best as his First Lady. The love story that develops between her role and Dave is a real classic(經(jīng)典).
The film is 100% American. However, if you've ever felt that anybody could do a better job running the country than the people in power, then you'll enjoy Dave!
(1)What is the purpose of the text?
A.To tell the reader about the American government
B.To discuss the Americans' ideas about the President
C.To make a comparison(對比) between Dave and other film.
D.To introduce a new film to the reader.
(2)Who plays the role of the President in the film?
A.Sigourney Weaver
B.Kevin Kline
