It is so difficult a problem that _____ student in this class _____ work it out.?

  A. any, can't        B. no, can?    C. every, can       D. no, can't??

B

解析:

此題很容易誤選A,因?yàn)閺木湟馍峡矗xA可將此句理解為“這個(gè)問題是如此之難,這個(gè)班上任何一個(gè)學(xué)生都不可能做出來”。但按英語習(xí)慣,any(任何一個(gè))作為非肯定詞,它只能出現(xiàn)在否定詞not之后,而不能在其前,即可說not any,但不說any not。所以正確答案應(yīng)選B。這工作太難了,恐怕誰也干不了。

正:The work is too difficult. I'm afraid no one can do it.

誤:The work is too difficult. I'm afraid any one can't do it.?

什么也阻礙不了我同她結(jié)婚。

正:Nothing can prevent me from marrying her.?

誤:Anything can't prevent me from marrying her.?

  類似地,either (兩者中的任意一個(gè))作為非肯定詞,它也應(yīng)出現(xiàn)在否定詞之后,而不能出現(xiàn)在否定詞之前。如:這兩兄弟都不聰明。?

正:Neither of the brothers is clever. / Neither brother is clever.?

誤:Either of the brothers is not clever. / Either brother isn't clever.

The word“okay”is known and used by millions of people all over the world. Still, language experts have different ideas of where it came from.

Some say it came from the Indian people. When Europeans first came to America they heard hundreds of different Indian languages. Many were well developed. One tribe (部落) especially had a well-developed language. People in this tribe were farmers and fishermen. When there were problems, the leader of the tribe listened to different opinions and said“okeh”,meaning“It is so.”

The Indian languages have given many words to English . Twenty-four of the American states—almost half—have Indian names—Oklahoma and the Dakotas, to name a few. And the names of many rivets, mountains, cities and towns are Indian.

However, there are many who don't agree that“okay” came from the Indians. Some say the president Andrew Jackson first used the word “Okay”.Others say the word came from John Jacob, a businessman of the late 1700s who became one of the world's richest men. Still others say a poor railroad clerk made up this word. His name was Obadiah Kelly and he signed O. K on each package(包裹) people gave him to ship by train.

So it goes, each story sounds reasonable and official. But perhaps the most believable explanation is that the word“okay”was invented by a political organization in the 1800s.

Martin Van Buren was running for president (競選). A group of people set up an organization to support him. They called their political organization the“Okay Club”. The letters“O”and“K”were taken from the name of Van Buren's hometown, the place where he was born, old Kinderhook, New York.

There is one thing about“okay”that the experts do agree on: that the word is pure American and rather use“agree, approve, confirm”and so on.

Many people often lose their friends and they don’t know how to keep a long friendship. So how can you keep a long friendship? The following passage explains very well about this matter.

The first thing you need to do is to become a good listener. In this way,you show your friends that you are interested in their lives. You want to know more about them and you want to help them solve their problems. They will cherish the friendship more if they know you care about them.

The next thing is that you should respect other people’s privacy (隱私).People usually don’t like others to know about their private life,so you should show respect toward their privacy.Sometimes, they need some suggestions from others, but this does not mean that others can know about their entire life.So respect for privacy is a must for keeping a long friendship.

The third important thing is that you need to be able to forgive. You must remember that nobody is perfect in this world. It is important to forgive others and not to blame them for the mistakes they have already made. You are not perfect either. Thus you need to apologize to others for the mistakes you may have made.
