It was quiet, sunny afternoon. I was sitting in the garden, read the Sunday newspaper and expecting a couple of hour of peace. Then I hear a loud knock on the door. I saw about twelve ladies wearing her Sunday clothes. They said, “Well, we hope we are not late, so it is not easy to find your house.” One lady said, “Well, your husband is very kind to inviting us to tea.” I thought, “My God, my husband must have been mad.” I asked for them into the house and they sat down and started talking happy. But when my husband appeared, it was quickly discovered that they should have gone to the house on the another side of the street.

1.quiet前加a

2.read 改為reading

3.hour 改為hours

4.hear 改為heard

5.her 改為their

6.so 改為but

7.inviting 改為invite

8.去掉for

9.happy改為happily

10.another 改為other

1.

2. was sitting in the garden, read the Sunday newspaper。

5. saw about twelve ladies wearing her Sunday clothes.”

6. we hope we are not late, so it is not easy to find your house.”

7. kind to do sth. 類似的be +adj to do,注意收集這類不定式的短語,區(qū)分to是不定式的to ,還是介詞to。

8. sb to do 讓某人做,要求某人做,而ask for sb. Well, we hope we are not late, so it is not easy to find your house. 故去掉for

9. asked for them into the house and they sat down and started talking happy.

What was your favorite sport during your childhood? Maybe running around the playground or jumping rope for hours would bring you pleasure. At that time you weren’t thinking of health, you were just thinking of entertainment(娛樂). But in this age of high-tech home equipment, the simple joy of jumping rope has been forgotten. I think rediscovering it probably will give you a total-body exercise.

Although considered an excellent form of exercise, jumping rope has never been widely accepted because of two reasons. First, most people consider jumping rope to be an excellent form of cardiovascular (心血管的) exercise, but they also believe that it is simply too difficult. In other words, they don’t think they’ll be able to continue jumping for the near 20 minutes in order to achieve a beneficial physical effect. Second, many people regard it as a little boring and overly repetitive —not as something fun or enjoyable.

As a matter of fact, jumping rope can be great fun as long as you find proper ways to practice it. Instead of doing the usual two-foot bounce(跳) over and over again, players good at rope-jumping often change their pattern every 10 or 20 jumps. A single bounce, a double –bounce, a skip, a knee-up, side swings, as well as a variety of other easy-to-learn free-style rope-jumping .

Nowadays researchers are discovering that jumping rope also prepares the brain for learning. It is an exercise allowing both brain hemispheres(半球)to perform equally to each other . In a word, jumping rope can be a life-long activity requiring little equipment, time and space, yet leading to a much healthier life.

1.One reason that can explain why rope jumping has not spread widely is that_____.

A. it is believed to be boring and repetitive

B. it is too difficult for people to learn to jump

C. it benefits the cardiovascular system

D. it requires little equipment, time and space

2.The first sentence in Paragraph 3 implies that in rope jumping .

A. there is only one proper way to follow

B. the usual way should not be used again

C. the easiest way is always the best one

D. there are different kinds of ways to follow

3.According to the researchers, jumping rope .

A. only prepares the brain for learning

B. is suitable for students only

C. helps both brain hemispheres work together

D. can be dangerous for old people

4.What is the author’s attitude towards rope jumping?

A. He strongly argues against it.

B. He is sitting on the fence of it .

C. He is for it.

D. He knows little about it .

A campaign(活動) is being launched to encourage children to surrender 30 minutes of screen time a day to head for the great outdoors.

The newly formed Wild Network—a collaboration of nearly 400 organizations—is attempting to attract youngsters away from television and computer screen and to fields, woods and parks. Members of the network include the National Trust, RSPB, Play England and the NHS. Organizers say it is the UK’s biggest ever campaign to reconnect children with nature and outdoor play, and claim it could help improve fitness, mental alertness(機(jī)敏) and general wellbeing.

A documentary film, Project Wild Thing, will forecast the launch at more than 50 cinemas across the UK from Friday. It looks at the increasing link between children and nature.

Andy Simpson, chairman of the Wild Network, said, “The tragic truth is that kids have lost touch with nature and the outdoors in just one generation. Time spent outdoors is down, roaming(漫步) ranges have fallen largely, activity levels are declining and the ability to identify common species has been lost.”

Suggestions of how to get more time in nature include collecting conkers(七葉樹果), camping or snail racing, and observing autumn colour on trees.

From January, the network will aim to make suggestions to politicians on how government can do more to get children muddy and bright-eyed.

This is not the first time the message of less screen, more play has been brought up. Children in the 1980s were requested to do the same by the BBC TV series Why Don’t You, which somewhat confusingly called on its viewers to “switch off your TV set and go to do something less boring instead”.

1.What does the underlined word “surrender” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?

A. Give up B. Get around

C. Take up D. Run away

2.For what purpose is the Wild Network organized?

A. To make children read more books.

B. To help children distinguish(辨別) the natural world.

C. To encourage children to participate in outdoor activities.

D. To get children out of too much homework from school.

3.According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?

A. The outdoors can be beneficial to children’s wellbeing.

B. The Network advocates(提倡) keeping children’s distance from TV.

C. It is the first time for less screen, more play to be brought up.

D. The government should do more to get children to go outdoors.

4.Which of the following shows that kids have lost touch with nature and the outdoors?

A. Time spent outdoors is less and activity levels are down.

B. Chances of travelling abroad are fewer and fewer.

C. Time spent on the study is decreasing.

D. The ability to identify common species has been improved.

5.Which is confusing according to the passage?

A. Government took measures to get children muddy and bright-eyed.

B. A BBC TV series called on its viewers to shut off their TV sets.

C. More children went out to keep in touch with nature.

D. Wild Network launched a campaign to encourage children to go outdoors.
