"Only a few years and you'll be an adult!"It's true that in two years I'll be 18,and that will make me legally an adult. But it's also just a number. It doesn't come with a magical moment where you know all the stuff adults are supposed to know how to do.It doesn't make responsibilities easier. It just makes it legal for you to enter online sweepstakes and work at Walmart(沃爾瑪).You can start being a "grown up" long before then or long after.
This thought all started hack in July when my friend,Dakota, officially flew out for military basic training in Oklahoma. He's 17.He can't rent a movie from most places, but he can defend our country.I didn't realize how much his actual departure would affect me arid the way I viewed growing up and when it actually starts.
Then,in September,my best friend Madeline is now studying psychology in London. She's 18.She's worked ridiculously hard, and slaved over textbooks to get the perfect grades. Now,she's booking her own plane tickets, going grocery shopping, being in complete control of' her personal life.I have a basic idea of how a loan works, but applying for one?Forget it.I don't even have a credit card.My other friends are growing up around me,making decisions, that will affect the rest of their life.Where do I fit in?My life is so different from the standard,it's hard to compare.I'm home-schooled.I have been fashion blogging since I was 13,an occupation that has definitely taught me a lot first-hand about the outside world.Earlier this year,I landed my first Teen Vogue feature and worked with the Disney Channel. But if you add that up,it doesn't equal adult,it equals an accomplished teenager.
I made myself a list of "Things to Learn Before I Grown Up".Number one?Figure out the whole loan thing. But it's also important to me to enjoy being young.I like having my mom cook for me,and getting to just be goofy(傻瓜的)sometimes without worry. So in conclusion,my point is this: being a grownup is less about your age,and more about what you do with your life.

“Hello, Earth! Can you hear me?” That’s voice more than 400,000 people received recently. It was from Philae, a space vehicle that landed on a comet(彗星)in 2014. However, its transmissions (傳輸信號(hào))back home went silent since then.
It took a 1ong time for Philae to make its way across the solar system (太陽(yáng)系)and reach comet 67P/C-G. The pace vehicle got there aboard the Rosetta probe (探測(cè)器), which has been circling around the comet since Philae separated from it in November, 2014.
Philae’s job was to collect materials to study the comet’s composition. And for about two and a half days after landing, it did just that, sending the information back to scientists on Earth. But Philae’s landing on the comet’s icy surface had not been smooth. While touching down, it jumped up and ended up in the shadow of something like a huge rock. Philae runs on solar power, but there was no light in the place where it landed. In the end, it failed to work.
However,as comet 67P/C-G moved closer to the sun, more sunlight reached the space vehicle, allowing it to power up and come back online. Philae then sent something to Rosetta, which passed on the information back to Earth.
“We only received the information for about 85 seconds, but that’s enough to let us know it is alive and well,”says Stephan Ulamec, who works for the European Space Agency.“We hope to work out where it landed exactly on the 4-kilometer-wide comet. Now we plan to change how Rosetta moves so that Philae can keep on communicating and receiving instructions.”
1.Hearing Philae’s voice,those people must have felt_______________.
A. afraid B. calm
C. excited D. worried.
2.According to the text, Philae_______________.
A. was damaged when it landed
B. moved around comet 67P/C-G
C. needs light and gas to keep working
D. helps scientists learn about a comet
3.What Stephan says in the text suggests that ____________.
A. Rosetta will move around another comet
B. Philae will continue to work for scientists
C. most comets are as wide as four kilometers
D. he wonders whether Philae is still alive
4.What does the author mainly talk about in the text?
A. A sleeping space vehicle wakes up.
B. It is very dangerous to travel in space.
C. A new comet was discovered recently.
D. Philae was sent into space successfully.

I was reading an article in a book while I came across a word I didn’t know. “Dad, what is the meaning of the word?” My dad, as he usual did after work, was watching his most favorite show. “You have the dictionary, don’t you?” he shot back. He didn’t even look up my face. I went back my room, and there on my study table is that dictionary. I looked it up and found it’s exact meaning. Ten year have passed and I still use that dictionary, along with the lesson I received earlier in life from my old man: to be independent.

Habits, whether good or bad, are gradually formed. When a person does a certain thing again, he is driven by some unseen force to do the same thing repeatedly, then a habit is formed. Once a habit is formed, it is difficult, and sometimes impossible, to get rid of. It is therefore very important that we should pay great attention to the formation of habits. Children often form bad habits, some of which remain with them as long as they live. Older persons also form bad habits lasting as long as they live, and sometimes become ruined by them.
There are other habits which, when formed in early life, are of great help. Many successful men say that much of their success has something to do with certain habits in early life, such as early rising, honesty and so on.
Among the habits which children should not form are laziness, lying, stealing and so on. These are all easily formed habits. Unfortunately older persons often form habits which could have been avoided.
We should keep away from(遠(yuǎn)離) all these bad habits, and try to form such habits as will be good for ourselves and others.
1.________ are formed little by little.
A. Good habits
B. Bad habits
C. Both good habits and bad habits
D. Either good habits or bad habits
2.The underlined word "them" in the first paragraph refers to ________.
A. bad habits B. good habits
C. children D. other persons
3.Generally speaking, it's difficult for one ________ and not easy for them ________ which should be avoided.
A. to form bad habits; to form good habits
B. to form good habits; to get rid of bad habits
C. to form such habits as will be good; to get rid of good habits
D. to get rid of bad habits; to form good habits
4.Why should we pay much attention to the formation of habits?
A. Because habits are of great help to every one of us.
B. Because a man can never get rid of a habit.
C. Because it's hard and sometimes even impossible to throw away bad habits.
D. Because we are forced to do them again and again.

We are all called upon to make a speech at some point in life, but most of us don’t do a very good job.1..
So, you have to give a speech—and you are terrified. You get nervous, you forget what you want to say, you stumble over words, you talk too long, and you bore your audience. Later you think, “Thank Goodness, it’s over. I’m just not good at public speaking. I hope I never have to do that again.”
Cheer up! 2.. Here are some simple steps to take the pain out of speech making. Ask yourself the purpose of your speech. What is the occasion? Why are you speaking? Then, gather as many facts as you can on your subject. Spend plenty of your time doing your research. Then spend plenty of your time organizing your material so that your speech is clear and easy to follow. Use as many examples as possible, and use pictures, charts, and graphs if they help you make your points more clearly. 3.. Don’t talk down to them. Treat your audience with respect. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Just remember: Be prepared. Know your subject, your audience, and the occasion. Be brief.
4. . And be yourself. Let your personality come through so that you make person-to-person contact with your audience. If you follow these simple steps, you will see that you don’t have to be afraid of public speaking. In fact, you may find the experience so enjoyable that you volunteer to make more speeches! You’re not convinced yet? 5..
