Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m a Chinese senior high student.
【答案】
Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m a Chinese senior high student. I am writing to tell you something about the Chinese Tiger and ask for your help.
Due to the killing by people and the gradual loss/reduction of its natural habitat, the number of the Chinese Tiger is becoming smaller and smaller. Now the species is on the brink of/ in danger of extinction, with only about 20 living in the wild. Therefore, it’s high time we took immediate measures to change the situation.
So I hope WWF will do something to help the Chinese Tiger. You can make a difference by setting up a special fund organization. Besides, it’s also a good idea to draw up some rules which are aimed at protecting the animal and its habitat.
I would appreciate it very much if you could help this endangered species. I am looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Last week, my parents and I took a two-days trip to Emei Mountain in Sichuan. As everyone knows,it’s famous mountain with varieties of plants and animals. The weather was fine. It was about noon that we arrived at the foot of the mountain, the three of them were very excited. As we climbed the mountain,we watched monkeys, visiting temples and told stories. On the way up, I was busy taking picture since the scenery was so beautifully. Time passes quickly. Evening came. We spent the night in a hotel at the top of the mountain. The food was expensive and the service was good. I was so tired that I fell asleep at the moment my head touched the pillow.

【題目】Half of the world’s population lives in areas affected by Asian monsoons(季風(fēng)), but monsoons are difficult to predict. American researchers have put together a 700-year record of the rainy seasons, which is expected to provide guidance for experts making weather predictions.
Every summer, moist(潮濕的)air masses, known as monsoon, produce large quantities of rainfall in India, East Asia, Indonesia, Northern Australia and East Africa, which are pulled in by a high pressure area over the Indian Ocean and a low pressure area to the south.
According to Edward Cook, a weather expert at Columbia University in New York, the complex nature of the climate systems across Asia makes monsoons hard to predict. In addition, climate records for the area date to 1950, too recent and not detailed enough to be of much use. Therefore, he and a team of researchers spent more than fifteen years travelling across Asia locating trees old enough to provide long-term records. They measured the rings(年輪)or circles, inside the trunks of thousands of ancient trees at more than 300 sites.
Rainfall has a direct link to the growth and width of rings on some kinds of trees. The researchers developed a document—a Monsoon Asia Drought Atlas(地圖集). It shows the effect of monsoons over seven centuries, beginning in the 1300s.
Professor Cook says the tree-ring records show periods of wet and dry conditions. “If the monsoon basically fails or is very weak one year, the trees affected by the monsoon at that location might put on a very narrow ring. But if the monsoon is very strong, the trees affected by that monsoon might put on a wide ring for that year. So, the wide and narrow ring widths of the tree chronology(年表)that we developed in Asia provide us with a measure of monsoon variability. ” Armed with such a sweeping set of data, researchers say they now can begin to refine climate computer models for predicting the behavior of monsoons.
“There has been widespread famine and starvation and human dying in the past in large droughts. And on the other hand, if the monsoon is particularly heavy, it can cause extensive flooding,” said Eugene Wahl, a scientist who is with America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s paleoclimate(古氣侯)branch studying weather patterns over the history of the Earth. “So, to get a knowledge of what the regional moisture patterns have been, dryness and wetness over such a long period of time in great detail, I would call it a kind of victory for climate science.”

【題目】Finding summer jobs for teenagers has not always been easy, but now you no longer have to worry about what your kid can do to earn their own money. Recently I found some different sites online that offer information about what kids can do. Below is some of that information, along with questions to think about to help you come up with your own ideas.
Ideas for summer work:
●Parks and Recreation Programs.
●Babysitting (當(dāng)臨時保姆) during the day of school.
●Working part-time at a day care for the summer.
●Car washing.
●Working at local vegetable stands.
The easiest way for you to find ways for your child to make money is to think about others’ inconveniences (不方便). Think of things you need done, or would like to have done, and what you would consider paying for these things to get done. Once you have some ideas, you can sit down with your child and talk to them about what they would be interested in doing. Then once you have an idea of what they want to do you can help them come up with fair prices.
Preferably you would want to only have your child working with people you know and trust, or in the least bit you could have your child pick a partner. That way with each of them carrying cell phones, even those without service can call 911, they will be much safer.
You can find out more information and many more ideas for kids to use to make money during their summer holidays by visiting http://www.kidswantmoney.com.
