6.    today, he would get there by Friday.

A. Were he to leave      B. If he had left

C.  Did he to leave      D. Had he left

6.    A 考查倒裝句。句意:要是他今天離開,在星期五之前就會到那里。這里的were he to leave today = If he were to leave today,在if條件句中,如果省去if ,則系動詞were,助動詞should, had提到主語前面。所以選A。

C

A study suggests that apple-shaped women with a waist bigger than 88cm have a higher risk of developing asthma(哮喘)一even if their body-weight is normal.

Being overweight is well known to raise the risk of asthma. But the lat?est study suggests that the amount of weight women carry around the abdo?men might be particularly important. The study, by the Northern California Cancer Centre at Berkeley, appears in the journal Thorax. The results of research showed that overweight women were 40% more likely to have asth?ma than women of normal body weight. Asthma was more than twice as likely in fat women, and more than three times as likely in extremely fat women than in those of normal body weight.

But perhaps more surprisingly, the researchers also found that women of normal body weight but with a waistline of more than 88cm were also at increased risk—around a third higher than those with a smaller waist. Some researchers argue that the waistline may be a more useful measure because it more closely reflects levels of visceral fat (內(nèi)臟脂肪)found around the body's organs. Visceral fat is different from other types of fat found in the body, and may have different and more important effects on health. Re?searcher Julid Von Behren said, "Visceral fat is more active. It can produce something that may cause inflammation (炎癥).The inflammation may then be related to asthma."

It is important that people with asthma eat a healthy, balanced diet, which is low in fat and sugar, and take regular exercise.

9. Which of the following statements about visceral fat is TRUE?

  A.  It can cause asthma directly.

B.  It can help to prevent inflammation.

C. It is less active than other types of fat in the body.

D. It has important effects on a person's health.

 10. The underlined word "it" in Paragraph 3 refers to _____.

A.  new measure                    B.  the waistline

C. visceral fat                      D.  a smaller waist

11. What's the main idea of the passage?

 A. Visceral fat is very dangerous to people's health.

B. Women of normal body weight are healthier.

C. Apple-shaped women face greater risk of developing asthma.

D. Eating a healthy diet is good for asthma.

12.In which part of a newspaper would you most probably read this passage?
