China news, Beijing, July. 29 – Housing price in China has always aroused heated discussions among property (房產(chǎn)) developers and ordinary Chinese. To many property developers and local government officials, housing price in China is still low compared with many developed countries. However, the average housing price in the United States is only 8,000 yuan per square meter, while in China, it is even higher than in the United States. This shows that there are some bubbles(泡沫) in Chinese real estate(房地產(chǎn)) market, the International Finance News reported.

Although the average price of residential houses in the United States, after converted to Renminbi, is about 8,000 yuan per square meter, the houses in US are not sold in terms of building area, as most Chinese property developers do when they sell their houses. If US property developers sell their houses according to the building area, then the housing price will be even lower than 8,000 yuan per square meter. In most big Chinese cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, houses are sold at a price even higher than those in the US.

The high housing sales price in large cities in China proves that Chinese real estate market does have some bubbles. Moreover, Chinese houses can not be compared with houses in US in terms of building quality, environment and supporting facilities. Furthermore, it should be noted that American people’s average income is several dozen times higher than that of Chinese people. How can the Chinese afford to buy a house which is even more expensive than that sold in US?

At the beginning of 2007, Chinese government issued a set of policies that aimed to benefit the public. Now in order to reduce the high housing prices, the government can regulate(control) the real estate market by raising tax on property industry and controlling the release of loans (貸款) and lands to property developers. At the same time, the government should allow people to build more houses through various fund-raising channels, such as funds collected from buyers or raised by working units. By applying these multiple means, it is expected that the high housing prices can be lowered.

What is the average housing price per square meter in China?

A. 8000 yuan.             B. 10000 yuan.

C. 7000 yuan.             D. It’s not mentioned here.

Which of the following does NOT support the idea that the average housing price in China is even higher than in the United States?

A. Chinese houses can not be compared with houses in US in terms of building quality, environment and supporting facilities.

B. American people’s average income is several dozen times higher than that of Chinese people.

C. The houses in US are not sold in terms of building area, as most Chinese property developers do when they sell their houses.

D. The population who need houses in China is larger than in the United States.

How many measures are mentioned in the last paragraph in order to reduce the high housing prices?

A. Four.       B. Three.      C. Two.       D. One.

What is the main idea of this passage?

A. The housing price in China is so high that the government should do something useful to prevent it.

B. There are some bubbles in Chinese real estate market.

C. The average housing price in China is even higher than in the United States.

D. Chinese government issued a set of policies that aimed to benefit the public.

Many parents who welcome the idea of turning off the TV and spending more time with the family are still worried that without TV they would constantly be on call as entertainers for their children. They remember thinking up all sorts of things to do when they were kids. But their own kids seem different, less resourceful, somehow. When there’s nothing to do, these parents observe regretfully, their kids seem unable to come up with anything to do besides turning on the TV.

One father, for example, says, “When I was a kid, we were always thinking up things to do, projects and games. We certainly never complained in an annoying way to our parents. ‘I have nothing to do’.” He compares this with his own children today: “They’re simply lazy. If someone doesn’t entertain them, they’ll happily sit there watching TV all day.”

There is one word for this father’s disappointment: unfair. It is as if he were disappointed in them for not reading Greek though they have never studied the language. He deplores (哀嘆) his children’s lack of inventiveness, as if the ability to play were something born that his children are missing. In fact, while the tendency to play is built into the human species, the actual ability to play – to imagine, to invent, to elaborate on reality in a playful way –and the ability to gain fulfillment from it, these are skills that have to be learned and developed.

Such disappointment, however, is not only unjust, it is also destructive. Sensing their parents’ disappointment, children come to believe that they are, indeed, lacking something, and that this makes them less worthy of admiration and respect. Giving children the opportunity to develop new resources, to enlarge their horizons and discover the pleasure of doing things on their own is, on the other hand, a way to help children develop a confident feeling about themselves as capable and interesting people.

According to many parents, if there’s nothing to do, the children would        .

    A. turn on the TV                           B. complain to their parents

    C. ask their parents to play with them          D. do all of the above

Many parents think that, instead of watching a lot of TV their children should       .

    A. sit silently studying Greek                  B. think up things to entertain themselves

    C. find chances to talk with parents            D. enjoy themselves outdoors

The father often blames their children for not being able to entertain themselves. This is unfair because        .

    A. the children are not really lazy, but there’s nothing for them to do

    B. they do not lack the ability to play

    C. they have to learn and develop their playing ability gradually

    D. the father have done nothing to help the children

When parents show constant disappointment in their children, the children will         .

    A. lose their confidence and respectability

    B. be much more disappointed

    C. refuse to learn new things

    D. discover the pleasures of doing things on their own

What is the author’s main idea?

    A. Today’s children are becoming less capable and independent than before.

    B. Parents should give children more help on how to be creative.

    C. Turning off the TV will help us solve a lot of family problems.

    D. It’s not just for parents and children to complain each other.

The Queen’s English is now sounding less upper-class, a scientific study of the Queen’s Christmas broadcasts has found. Researchers have studied each of her messages to the Commonwealth countries since 1952 to find out the change in her pronunciation from the noble Upper Received to the Standard Received.

Jonathan Harrington, a professor at Germany’s University of Munich, wanted to discover whether accent changes recorded over the past half century would take place within one person. “As far as I know, there just is nobody else for whom there is this sort of broadcast records,” he said.

He said the noble way of pronouncing vowels(元音) had gradually lost ground as the noble upper-class accent over the past years. “Her accent sounds slightly less noble than it did 50 years ago. But these are very, very small and slow changes that we don’t notice from year to year.”

“We may be able to relate it to changes in the social classes,” he told The Daily Telegraph, a British  newspaper. “In 1952 she would have been heard saying ‘thet men in the bleck het’. Now it would be ‘that man in the black hat’. Similarly, she would have spoken of ‘the citay’ and’dutay’, rather than ‘citee’ and ‘dutee’, and ‘hame’ rather than ‘home’. In the 1950s she would have been ‘lorst’, but by the 1970s ‘lost’.”

The Queen’s broadcast is a personal message to the Commonwealth countries. Each Christmas, the 10-minute broadcast is put on TV at 3 pm in Britain as many families are recovering from their traditional turkey lunch(傳統(tǒng)火雞午餐).

The results were published(發(fā)表) in the Journal of Phonetics.

D. her speeches are familiar to many people

2.Which of the following is an example of a less noble accent in English?

A. “Dutay”.                  B.  “Hame”.                C. “Citee”. D. “Lorst”.

3.We may infer from the text that the Journal of Phonetics is a magazine on         .

A. Christmas customs                                                        B. speech sounds

C.TV broadcasting                                                   D. personal messages

4.What is the text mainly about?

A. The changes in a person’s accent.

B. The Queen’s Christmas speeches on TV.

C. The relationship between accents and social classes.

D. The recent development of the English language.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2014屆重慶市高二下學(xué)期4月月考英語(yǔ)試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

The African elephant, the largest land animal remaining on earth, is of great importance to African ecosystem(生態(tài)系統(tǒng)). Unlike other animals, the African elephant is to a great extent the builder of its environment. As a big plant-eater, it largely shapes the forest-and-savanna(大草原) surroundings in which it lives, therefore setting the terms of existence for millions of other animals that live in its habitat.

It is the elephant’s great desire for food that makes it a disturber of the environment and an important builder of its habitat. In its continuous search for the 300 pounds of plants it must have every day, it kills small trees and under-bushes, and pulls branches off big trees. This results in numerous open spaces in both deep tropical forests and in the woodlands that cover part of the African savannas. In these open spaces are numerous plants in various stages of growth that attract a variety of other plant-eaters.

Take the rain forests for example. In their natural state, the spreading branches overhead shut out sunlight and prevent the growth of plants on the forest floor. By pulling down trees and eating plants, elephants make open spaces, allowing new plants to grow on the forest floor. In such situations, the forests become suitable for large hoofed plant-eaters to move around and for small plant-eaters to get their food as well.

What worries scientists now is that the African elephant has become an endangered species. If the elephant disappears, scientists say, many other animals will also disappear from vast areas of forest and savanna, greatly changing and worsening the whole ecosystem.

1.What does the underlined phrase “setting the terms” most probably mean?

A.Improving the quality.

B.Deciding the conditions.

C.Fixing the time.

D.Worsening the state.

2.The passage is developed mainly by_________.

A.giving examples

B.showing the effect and then explaining the causes

C.pointing out similarities and differences

D.describing the changes in space order

3.What is the passage mainly about?

A.Forests and savannas as habitats for African elephants.

B.The eating habit of African elephants.

C.Disappearance of African elephants

D.The effect of African elephants’ search for food

4.What do we know about the open spaces in the passage?

A.They are home to many endangered animals.

B.They are attractive to plant-eating animals of different kinds.

C.They result from the destruction of rain forests.

D.They provide food mainly for African elephants.
