12.There is an island called Kitava, way out there in the Pacific Ocean,in the Milne Bay Province of Papua New Guinea. It is one of the four main Trobriand Islands with a total population of 12,000 native residents.Rich with culture, surrounded on all sides by clear blue water and abundant rainforest,Kitava is as apealing as it is remote. But it has more to offer than good views.
As Byrdie reports,Kitava is also home to a people whose diet and nutritional habits remain healthy, untouched by Western influence.A lifetime of not knowing the sweet, sweet sensation of the salt from a potato chip hitting the roof of your mouth has done more than just spare Kitavans from illnesses like diabetes and cardiovascular disease; it's also given them a lifetime of smooth,acne(痤瘡)-free skin.
In a study of l',200 subjects-including 300 teens and young adults-conducted by a team led by medical doctor and professor Steffan Lindeberg over 843 days, not one breakout was reported. They also found that genetics played little to no role in the results.
In fact,the average Kitavan diet is fairly common.It's simple,with no"miracle fruit"or"rare nut"to speak of,and Kitavans don't even exercise much.That diet consists mainly of yams( 山荮),sweet potatoes,and taro (芋頭),local fruits (namely coconut),fish,and vegetables.
But if you're already pulling out your suitcases and drafting a resignation letter to your boss, you might want to slow your step. For one thing, the closest airport is over 700 miles away from the island,so good luck getting there. And consider this:do you really want to move somewhere where you'll be the only person with acne until the diet kicks in?I don't think so.

A.They don't like eating salt..
B.They enjoy varieties of rare fruits.
C.They are sick of exercising..
D.They follow simple but healthy diet.
30.What is unlikely to be included in the Kitavans'diet?C.

3.How many times have you laughed today?Have you ever wondered what makes you laugh?In the whole animal kingdom,only we humans are capable (有能力的) of laughter.On average,we laugh about 17times a day.
Laughter is a spontaneous reaction of the body to some-thing funny or pleasant.Have you noticed that when you laugh,many parts of your body respond (反應(yīng))?Your face changes expression,your breathing changes,and muscles throughout your body are affected.
An interesting story dates back to 1962.In a school in Tanganyika,in Africa,a group of schoolgirls started laughing uncontrollably over a joke.This laughter became epidemic (傳染的),jumping from one person to the next,spreading across communities,and lasting for six months!So strong was the"laughter epidemic"that schools had to shut down till it ended.
How we laugh remains a mystery.Whatever the reasons,laughter,as the saying goes,"is the best medicine."In fact,science has proven that being happy and laughing can not only keep us healthy and fit but help deal with serious illnesses.
Laughing exercises all the important muscles,and keeps you fit.People have started forming laughter clubs that use laughter to treat illnesses.They meet at specific places at fixed times and laugh together.Laughter spreads,so this exercise works best in groups; once one person starts laughing,others automatically (自動地) join in.

7.Like many other people,I love my smart phone,which keeps me connected with the larger world that can go anywhere with me.I also love my laptop,because it holds all of my writing and thoughts.In spite of this love of technology,I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices and truly communicate with others.
On occasion,I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers.My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas.Because I want students to thoroughly study the materials and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom,I have a rule-no laptop,iPads,phones,etc.When students were told my rule in advance of the class,some of them were not happy.
Most students assume that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology.There's a bit of truth to that.Some students assume that I am anti-technology.There's no truth in that at all.I love technology and try to keep up with it,so I can relate to my students.
The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversions and truly engage complex ideas.Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas.I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas.I want them to push each other to think differently and make connections between the course materials and the class discussion.
I've been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create.Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge,they learn at a level that helps them keep the course materials beyond the classroom.
I'm not saying that I won't ever change my mind about technology use in my history class,but until I hear a really good reason for the change,I'm sticking to my plan.A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.

56.Some of the students in the history class were unhappy withB.
A.the course materials
B.the author's class regulations
C.discussion topics
D.others'misuse of technology
57.Which of the following statements is true?D
A.The author made the rule in that he was against technology.
B.The author made the rule mainly because of his unpleasant experiences.
C.The author's history class received low assessment.
D.The students think highly of the author's history class.
58.According to the author,the use of technology in the classroom mayD.
A.a(chǎn)llow students to get on well with each other
B.improve teaching and offer more help
C.help students to better understand complex themes
D.prohibit students being involved in class
59.What can we infer from the passage?A
A.The author will carry on the success in the future.
B.Some students will be punished according to the rule.
C.More and more students will be absent in history class.
D.The author will help students concentrate on what they learn.

Time flied,we didn't want but we had to bid farewell to the museum and the fabulous exhibition. On the way home, the school bus was boiled with excitement. We laughed and promised ourselvesthat we would try our best to make our motherland much stronger. In my mind, there was a sweet dream rising in which Idiscovered an unknown land with a new spacecraft from our Shenzhouseries.Icouldn't help smiling from the bottomof my heart..

3. Empathy
Last year, researchers from the University of Michigan reported that empathy, the ability to understand other people, among college students had dropped sharply over the past 10 years. That could be because so many people have replaced face time with screen time, the researchers said.(36)BJennifer Freed,a codirector of a teen program, has another explanation.Turn on the TV,and you're showered with news and reality shows full of people fighting, competing, and generally treating one another with no respect.(37)DThere are good reasons not to follow those bad examples.Humans are socially related by nature.Having relationships with other people is an important part of being human-and having empathy is decisive to those relationships.Researchers have also found that empathetic teenagers are more likely to have high selfrespect.(38)GEmpathy is also an indication of a good leader. In fact,F(xiàn)reed says, many top companies report that empathy is one of the most important things they look for in new managers.(39)F"Academics are important. But if you don't have emotional (情感的) intelligence, you won't be as successful in work or in your love life,"she says.
What's the best way to up your EQ (情商)?For starters, let down your guard and really listen to others.(40)C   To really develop empathy, you'd better volunteer at a nursing home or a hospital, join a club or a team that has a diverse membership, have a"sharing circle"with your family,or spend time caring for pets at an animal shelter.
