How to survive embarrassing moments? Have you ever accidently called your teacher Mum, or dropped your plate in your canteen(食堂) while everyone was looking at you? At that moment, you probably wished you could disappear into thin air. Unfortunately, embarrassing things happen to everyone at one time or another.
We cannot deny the fact that something embarrassing has ever happens to us everyone . Just as the saying goes , nobody can avoid making mistakes , thus nobody experiencing embarrassing moments .
When it comes to the topic , what impressed me most is that I didn’t realize she is a stranger until i turned back to say “ good bye”. That day , my friend, Jane , saw me off on the train station . I was so absorbed in telling something interesting to her that I didn’t even know when we were departed. It was in that moment that I realized I was talking with the wrong person . I felt so embarrassed that I wanted to run to the platform to escape from the scene , but I know I shouldn’t do like that. As a result ,I do nothing but make apologies . To my surprise , the woman gave me a warm smile and said she was happy when listening to my talking . From then on , I learn from her ,giving them a favor rather than laughing when they are embarrassed.
It is kind of the woman . Although she is a stranger ,she helps me out when finding I was in embarrassment . At the same time , she taught me a lesson that we can’t avoid embarrassing moments ,but we can help them out of embarrassment with giving kind words to response.

Students who date (約會) in middle school have significantly worse study skills, are four times more likely to drop out of school and report twice as much alcohol and tobacco use than their single classmates, according to new research from the University of Georgia.
“Romantic relationships are a symbol of adolescence(青春期), but very few studies have examined how adolescents are different in the development of these relationships.” said Pamela Orpinas, study author and professor in the College of Public Health.
Orpinas followed a group of 624 students over a seven-year period from 6th to 12th grade. Each year, the group of students completed a survey indicating whether they had dated and reported the frequency of different behaviors, including the use of drugs and alcohol. Their teachers completed questionnaires (調(diào)查表) about the students' academic efforts. He found some students never or hardly ever reported dating from middle to high school, and these students had the best study skills according to their teachers. Other students dated infrequently in middle school but increased the frequency of dating in high school.
“At all points in time, teachers rated the students who reported the lowest frequency of dating as having the best study skills and the students with the highest dating as having the worst study skills,” according to the journal article. Study skills refer to behaviors that lead to academic success such as doing work for extra credit, being well organized, finishing homework, working hard and reading assigned chapters.
“Dating a classmate may have the same emotional complications of dating a co-worker,” Orpinas said, “When the couple break up, they have to continue to see each other in class and perhaps witness the ex-partner dating someone else. It is reasonable to think this could be linked to depression and divert (轉(zhuǎn)移) attention from studying.”
“Dating should not be considered a ceremony of growth in middle school.”O(jiān)rpinas concluded.

I ran into quite a few language problems while vacationing (度假) with my family last summer. The most embarrassing was when my Mom apologized to the people we were staying with because her “pants were dirty”. They looked at her in amazement, not knowing how to react. You see, Mom had fallen over and gotten mud on her jeans. But in Britain, “pants” means underpants or knickers( 內(nèi)褲), not trousers as it does back home.
Katie — From America
I went to stay with a friend on the west coast last summer. Her flat was on the first floor of a high-rise building so I got the lift up. Then I wandered round for ages looking for her flat but couldn’t find it. Fed up and tired, I finally had to go out to find a phone box. She explained that her flat was on the first floor, which for me meant the ground floor.
David — From Britain
When I asked for the “restroom” in a big department store, people kept directing(指引) me to a room with seats where I could sit and “rest”. It took me years to get through to (使...明白)someone that I only wanted the toilet!
Tom — From America
Last summer we went on a two-week family touring holiday, so Dad hired a car over the Internet. This was an old vehicle and there turned out to be lots of things wrong with it. When he phoned the hire company and tried to explain that the lock on the boot was broken, they thought he was talking about footwear! He had no idea their word for “boot” was “trunk”. In the end we went to a garage and just solved the problem.
Mary — From Britain
