Eyesight plays a very important role in our daily life. Every waking moment, the eyes are working to see the world around us. Over forty percent of Americans worry about losing eyesight, but it's easy to include steps into our daily life to ensure healthy eyes. Here are five suggestions for a lifetime of healthy eyesight:

·Schedule yearly exams. 1 Experts advise parents to bring babies 6 to 12 months of age to the doctor for a careful check. The good news is that millions of children now can have yearly eye exams and following treatment, including eyeglasses.

·Protect against UV rays (紫外線). Longterm stay in the sun creates risk to your eyes. No matter what the season is, it's extremely important to wear sunglasses. 2

·3 Two thirds of Americans spend up to seven hours a day using computers or other digital products. This frequent eye activity increases the risk for eye tiredness. Experts recommend that people practice the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20second break and look at something 20 feet away.

·4 As part of a healthy diet, eat more fruits and vegetables each day. Vitamins (維生素) C and E help protect eyesight and promote eye health.

·Practice safe wear and care of contact lenses Many Americans use contact lenses to improve their eyesight. While some follow the medical advice for wearing contact lenses, many are breaking the rules and putting their eyesight at risk. 5 Otherwise, you may have problems such as red eyes, pain in the eyes, or a more serious condition.

A.Give your eyes a break.

B.Parents usually don't care about their own eyesight.

C.They can properly protect your eyes.

D.Stay in good shape by taking more vitamins.

E.Have your eyes checked as early as possible.

F.Always follow the doctor's advice for appropriate wear.

G.Eat your greens.

安排每年檢查眼睛和下文“Experts advise parents to bring babies 6 to 12 months of age to the doctor for a careful check.”

由“No matter what the season is, it's extremely important to wear sunglasses. ”無(wú)論什么季節(jié),戴上太陽(yáng)眼鏡都是很重要的?芍魈(yáng)眼鏡可以預(yù)防紫外線,可以適當(dāng)?shù)谋Wo(hù)我們的眼睛。故選C。

3考查對(duì)下文的總結(jié)概括。由“Experts recommend that people practice the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20second break and look at something 20 feet away.” A符合語(yǔ)境,故選A。

由“eat more fruits and vegetables each day. Vitamins (維生素) C and E help protect eyesight and promote eye health.”

由“ Many Americans use contact lenses to improve their eyesight. While some follow the medical advice for wearing contact lenses, many are breaking the rules and putting their eyesight at risk. ”可知很多人都佩戴隱形眼鏡,但是在使用中總是沒(méi)有按照使用說(shuō)明,這也讓他們的眼睛處于危險(xiǎn)之中。所以我們就要采納醫(yī)生的建議,合理使用這些設(shè)備。F符合上下文,故選F。

【題目】My writing career began ten years ago with my articles published locally and nationally. As a beginning writer, I was happy to be on my way, writing and learning as much as I could . With two little kids underfoot, as well as working full-time, it was really difficult to make time for writing, but I managed.

Readers told me they laughed, cried or were inspired by my articles. But they didn't know what was really going on behind the typewriter. I was not a happy mommy, and found it difficult to enjoy the everyday little things in life. In short, I was not a happy person.

I realized I had to make some changes. I started walking every morning. It cleared my head, allowed me time to think, gave me fresh air, and made me feel invigorated (精神煥發(fā)) and healthy. I was eating wisely, and the weight started to go. I started a new job, joined a monthly writing chapter, and was determined to keep up my walking. Finding the balance was sometimes difficult. But I was determined to fit in writing time because it made me happy. Sure I loved to watch the news and have my tea, but that wasn't what made me truly happy.

My own happiness has shown through my family, my job performance and my attitude towards challenging situations. I again have readers telling me the effect my writing has had on them, with some able to get on with their own writing because of my articles.

It was up to me to make it happen—my own happiness. One step at a time-one word at a time. And I did it.

1What was a big challenge to the author according to the first paragraph?

A. Writing good articles. B. Doing well at work.

C. Finding time to write. D. Taking good care of children.

2Why did the author start walking every morning?

A. To be physically healthy.

B. To enjoy fresh early morning air.

C. To have more energy for writing.

D. To get back to happiness.

3What can we know about the author from the text?

A. Her articles had a great effect on readers.

B. She didn't enjoy making changes in her life.

C. She wasn't interested in watching TV news.

D. She couldn't find the balance between work and life.

4What do you think is the main idea of the story?

A. Practice makes perfect. B. Well begun is half done.

C. Time and tide wait for no man. D. Happiness lies in your own hand.

As if there weren’t enough of them in the world already, scientists have succeeded in cloning flies. The alike fruit flies are the first insects ever cloned, says the Canadian team that created them. The question everyone asks is why anyone would want to clone flies in the first place. She hopes that the insects , which are very easy to experiment with , will help to adjust the cloning process in other animals and even in humans, where the technique is being researched to aid production of therapeutic (治療的) stem cells.

In cloning, the DNA-containing nucleus of an adult cell is injected into an egg whose own nucleus(細(xì)胞核) has been removed. At the moment, the majority of cloned mice, sheep and other animals die before birth. It is thought this is because the adult DNA is not properly ‘reprogrammed’.

Using flies, researchers might discover genes that are important for this reprogramming, and that have matches in other animals. That is because it is relatively easy in flies to knock out the function of a single gene and then attempt cloning with these cells, which will test whether that gene is important. If such genes are confirmed, then in theory cloned mammalian embryos(晶胚) might be grown in selected solutions that change the activity of those genes to improve the technique’s success rate. Although some groups have attempted to clone insects before, Lloyd says this is the first time it has been successful. The team used a slight difference on the standard cloning process: they transferred nuclei taken from embryos rather than fully-grown adult cells. They sucked several nuclei (pl)out of developing fly embryos, and injected them into a fertilized(已受精的) fly egg. From over 800 early attempts, they cloned five adult insects, the group reports in the journal Genetics.

1The best title of this passage probably is _______.

A.The importance of clone

B.First insects are cloned

C.The disagreement in clone

D.The advantages of clone

2The scientists cloned flies because________.

A.there are fewer and fewer flies in the world

B.flies are easy to find and cheap to use

C.they can gain some experience before cloning other animals

D.it is safe to clone flies

3The failure of most cloned animals is due to _______.

A.the difference of other animals’ genes

B.the improper technique of clone

C.the complex of other animals

D.the improper rearrange of the adult gene

4It can be inferred from the last paragraph that ______.

A.the clone of insects before used grown-up cells

B.the clone of insects were never experimented before

C.this time scientists cloned flies successfully and easily

D.based on this success, other animals will be cloned in large quantities.
