Dear Editor,
I'm a senior high school student, named Li Hua.
Yours sincerely ,
Li Hua

【答案】One possible version:

Dear Editor:

I'm a senior high school student, named Li Hua .Now many students have iPods and think it's a fashion to use them. Using an iPod, we can listen to music, download a lot of learning materials and read them on the screen. Apparently, it's helpful to our study, especially to our English listening.

Some students, however, bring their iPods to classroom and listen to music with earphones, which makes the teacher and other students greatly annoyed. Some of them even waste precious time in class playing video games.

In my opinion, as a student, we should make good use of iPods to help achieve academic success. Classroom is a place for students to study, and therefore concentration is awfully needed for us to learn our lessons. Furthermore, the school should make a rule to guild the students to use iPods in a proper way.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

Profi Cheese Slicer
Uses a thin wire to slice up to medium-hard cheeses in four inch sections.
I may own every cheese slicer ever made.I prefer a wire type cheese cutter so I can cut slices that work well on a piece of bread and sandwich.
This cheese slicer is great for both tasks. It even has adjustable tension on the two cutting wires.A point of information: I did break a wire cutting a very hard piece of cheese with black pepper.Good news, the wire is replaceable, and I was able to purchase new wires to fix it.Maybe best to use on softer cheeses.Lessons learned. But, highly recommended for every other use except for those extremely hard cheeses.

Ash Bucket(桶子)
Bucket with lid keeps your fireplace(壁爐)clear of ashes.
I purchased this ash bucket recommended by my friend and have found it invaluable.Previously I had an old bucket that got left outside and usually filled up with rain and became a mess to clean. This ash bucket has a raised bottom and thermal insulation(隔熱層)to prevent any accidental hot coals in your ash to damage your floor or cause a fire. You can store this bucket indoors since the lid is nice and tight.

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,選擇最佳答案。
The Swedish Academy's mid-October announcement regarding literature seldom fails to cause second-guessing.
Bob Dylan was awarded the big prize this morning, and my social media has been alive with indignation ever since. The Nobel did not go to those excellent novelists but to a songwriter. Some of those same people are still protesting that last year it was warded to Svetlana Alexievich, a “journalist”. They have decided, for whatever reasons, that song lyrics(歌詞) are not literature.
And people are upset because Bob Dylan is the voice of some generation other than theirs, because he works in a popular style, because he does not work in this minute's popular style, because he appeared on a car commercial that aired during the Super Bowl, because his songwriting skills dropped off — he was famous long ago, after all.
You may not think of Dylan as a poet, but Dylan created a climate in which lyrics were taken seriously. And Dylan accomplished something that few novelists or poets or for that matter songwriters have managed to do in our time: he changed the time he lived. Through words, with music, he affected the opinions and ambitions of hundreds of millions of people all over the world. The Nobel Prize in Literature cannot ever be all things to all people, and while this year's award failed to accomplish various possible objectives, it was not in any way misapplied.
(1)What does the underlined word “indignation” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Curiosity.
B.Happiness.
C.Excitement.
D.Anger.
(2)Why are people upset about Dylan's being awarded?
A.He failed to represent any generation.
B.He didn't have good songwriting skills.
C.He played badly in the Super Bowl.
D.He is not popular any longer.
(3)Paragraph 4 mainly focuses on Dylan's _________.
A.style
B.influence
C.efforts
D.ambitions
(4)Which can serve as the title of the passage?
A.No dish suits all tastes
B.Great minds think alike
C.Misfortune may be actual blessing
D.Judge not according to the appearance

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,選擇最佳答案。Look into hunters' eyes
Have you ever been face to face with a cat or a sheep? If you have, you probably noticed that cats narrow their eyes to vertical (垂直的) slits (狹縫),while sheep have horizontal pupils (瞳孔).
Why is the difference?
Scientists from the Universities of California Berkeley and Durham in Britain may have the answer. Their research, published recently in the journal Science Advances, suggested that pupils' shapes could tell whether an animal is a hunter or gets hunted.
The researchers took a close look at the eyes of 214 land animals. The challenge was to see if they could find a relationship between an animal's role in the food chain and the pupils' shapes.
They found a pattern. Species with pupils that are vertical slits are more likely to be small ambush predators (捕獵者) – creatures that lie in wait for their lunch. In contrast, those with horizontal pupils are more likely to be plant-eating prey (獵物) species.
Evolution chose the arrangement for a good reason. For hunters such as household cats,it appears that vertical pupils not only improve their ability to keep track of moving objects like mice, but also maximize (使最大化) their ability to judge the distances of the animals they hunt.
However, an interesting discovery from the study is that the slit pupils are mostly linked to hunters that are close to the ground. Therefore, bigger cats who actively hunt down their prey, like tigers and lions, don't have slit pupils.
On the other hand, for plant-eating prey animals, horizontal pupils give them a wider field of vision. When stretched (伸展) horizontally, the pupils allow for more light to enter from the front, back, and sides. Meanwhile, they also limit the amount of light from the sun above so the animal can see the ground better.“ Once they do find a predator, they need to see where they are running,” said leading researcher Martin Banks,a UC Berkeley professor of optometry (視光學(xué)).“They have to see well enough out of the corner of their eye to run quickly and jump over things.”
But what happens when they bend down to eat? Researchers checked this by watching prey animals in the Oakland Zoo in California, US. They believe that when goats lower their heads to eat, their eyes rotate (旋轉(zhuǎn)) to keep their pupils horizontal.
So it seems that the eyes are indeed the window to the soul!
(1)What is the article mainly about?
A.How animals keep track of moving objects.
B.Why animals have evolved with different shaped pupils.
C.How animals change their pupils' shape when hunting for food.
D.How the pupils' shape influences an animal's ability to detect a predator.
(2)According to the study, slit pupils ______.
A.help to provide a wider field of vision
B.are more likely to belong to big predators
C.are more likely to belong to those to get hunted
D.provide the sharpest way to judge hunting distance
(3)What can we conclude from the article about plant-eating prey animals?
A.Their pupils allow more light to be received from both above and below.
B.Their pupils are able to help them scan their surroundings for threats.
C.Once they detect a predator, their eyes rotate to help them find where to run.
D.When they lower their heads to eat, they narrow their eyes to vertical slits.
