【解析】Text 9

This is a message for Marco Taylor. My name is David Wilson. I’m sorry I missed your call. I know you want some information about the volleyball club. The club meets once a week, on Thursday evening. There are sometimes matches on Sunday morning, but those are just for our players. Our meetings begin at half past seven, and are about two hours long, so we finish at half past nine. Most people like to get home in time for the sports programme on television at ten o’clock. We meet in Jubilee Hall, just in the Park Street. The hall doesn’t have very good heating so you’ll need to bring a sweater to put on afterwards. The hall is quite expensive to rent, so we need to pay 3 each week. I hope this answers your questions and we’ll be very pleased to see you at our next meeting.

Inside the Rain Room
The Rain Room has arrived and local art lovers are taking notice. Is it worth the wait? Yes, I assure you it is. Once inside, visitors find a long, dark room with a high ceiling. A single bright light shines through heavy rain falling around visitors. The mist. The damp air. The noise. It feels like a mighty storm is pouring down. But the storm is inside. And visitors aren't getting wet. Instead, visitors wander in awe, admiring the rain and the artists who created it.
The Rain Room was created to highlight the connection between humans, nature and technology. With a tracking system that senses movement and stops the rain wherever visitors move, it does just that. It's time to experience the Rain Room for yourself!

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項,選項中有兩項為多余選項。
Americans use the term “college students” to mean students either in colleges or universities. Not only that, Americans almost never say “going off to university” or “when I was in university.” That sounds British.
Both offer undergraduate degrees in the arts and sciences, for example. And both can help prepare young people to earn a living.
But many colleges do not offer graduate studies. Another difference is that universities are generally bigger.
Another place of higher education, especially in technical areas, is an institute, like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Yet even an institute of technology can offer a wide choice of programs and activities.
Modern universities developed from those of Europe in the Middle Ages. The word “university” came from the Latin universities, describing a group of people organized for a common purpose. In England, colleges were formed to provide students with places to live. Usually each group was studying the same thing. So college came to mean an area of study.
The first American universities divided their studies into a number of areas and called each one a college. This is still true. For example, Harvard College is the undergraduate part of Harvard University.
A. A college can also be a part of a university.
B. They offer more programs and do more research.
C. There are more universities than colleges in the USA.
D. Colleges and universities have many things in common.
E. Universities and colleges offer students different opportunities.
F. Instead, they say “going off to college” or “when I was in college.”
G. “College” came from collegium, a Latin word with a similar meaning.
