閱讀下面的短文,并根據(jù)短文后的要求答題。(請注意問題后的字數(shù)要求)
Think about all the things you enjoy doing outside. Do you have a huge, green field or city park close to your house where you can play baseball or soccer? Do your parents take you swimming or camping during your summer vacation? Maybe you and your friends just like to hang out on your street and ride bikes.
Our world is so beautiful. It’s part of the reason we love to be outdoors. The blue skies, clear lakes and rivers, rich soil, and fresh air are all valuable natural resources(資源) that make up a healthy, safe environment. Everyone living on the earth needs to do his or her part to help protect these resources so our world will still be healthy and beautiful many years from now.
As the population on earth continues to grow at a fast rate, it becomes harder to protect our land, air, and water from harmful pollution. The most important way people can fight pollution is to learn as much as possible about how their actions affect the environment. Then they can make wise choices that will reduce damage to the planet.
Governments, scientists, businesses and industries, agriculture, environmental organizations, and individuals can all help to control pollution. Pollution management, which specifically involves(涉及)reducing and cleaning up pollution, is expected to be one of the fastest growing industries of the future.
The government serves an important role in managing pollution by passing laws and setting guidelines(指導方針)to set and increase pollution standards.

Directions: Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN 25 WORDS.
As skies fill with millions of migrating birds, European scientists say the seasonal miracle appears to depend on a seeming contradiction: The fatter the bird, the more efficiently it flies. The results of their study contradict a central theory of aerodynamics(空氣動力學), which predicts that the power needed to fly increases with weight.
For birds, apparently, the cost of flying with heavy fuel loads is considerably smaller than previously thought. Researchers found that red knot wading birds double their normal body weight of 100 grams before making their twice-a-year, nonstop commute between the British Isles and the Russian Arctic. Distance: 5,000 kilometres.
Another study in the journal Nature measured the benefits of flying in an aerodynamic V formation, which allows birds to save energy by gliding in the lead bird’s air stream.
Flying in formation, their heart rates were as much as 14.5 per cent lower than flying solo, according to Henri Wimerskirch, a French scientist. The findings help explain how birds complete difficult migrations. Researchers had assumed that thinner, more athletic birds would have the best chance of survival.
The first study suggests that building up fat deposits to be burned as fuel during the migration is worth more than the energy it takes to carry the additional weight. Heavier birds apparently use their muscles more efficiently.
In the study, researchers said their team studied the birds flown at different body masses during 28 simulated flights. They were injected with a small amount of water containing a radioactive element that enabled the team to measure the amount of energy burned.
85. How much will a red knot wading bird probably weigh before making its nonstop migrating flight?
86. The additional weight gained before the flight won’t increase the powered needed to fly; on the contrary, it works as _____________________.
87. How did scientists successfully conduct the first study?
88. We can infer from the studies on fat deposits and V formation flying that both factors _____________________________.

B
When I recall my experiences of feeling heard and deeply understood by someone, I know how much the experiences helped me to cope with whatever I was dealing with at the time. Caring people who I have turned to in difficult times helped me the most by listening and asking about my feelings.
During one of my volunteer jobs at a  local HIV and cancer clinic, I found the helpfulness of empathic(感情移入的) listening. As a volunteer I was providing emotional support for people with health related problems. Empathic listening really made a difference on how patients felt about their health problems. By sharing about their pain and suffering and may willingness to listen, they felt less alone.
We can make life easier for each other by becoming a better listener and encouraging each other to share our feelings. We can become a better listener by avoiding giving advice and trying to solve problems unless we are asked to do so. Pressuring others to solve their life problems--"our ways"--is not helpful. Most people intuitively(憑直覺地) know how to solve their own problems. As a listener it's important to be patient and not to interrupt the speaker. Let them know it's OK to talk about their feelings and support them in feeling their feelings.
When one neither shares nor reaches out for support, he or she can remain a lonely mystery. Life can feel lonely when one keeps everything inside. Feeling alone with life problems can be worse than the problem itself. When we let a caring person listen to our life struggle, we will no longer feel alone with our struggle. Don't be afraid to ask your loved ones to take time to hear you out. Sometimes you have to ask for it. People cannot read your mind. Confiding in others can have a positive effect on our mood.
59.What made the author comfortable in difficult times?
A. Persuading      B. Sharing     C. Apologizing     D. Complaining
60.According to the second paragraph, we can know that ____.
A. The patients enjoyed listening to the author
B. The author found empathic listening was helpless
C. The patients didn't get on well with the author
D. The author did a good job at a cancer clinic
61.What does the underlined part "Confiding in others" in the last paragraph mean?
A. Telling others your secrets.      B. Reading others' mind
C. Listening to others.        D. Leaving others alone.
62.What's the main idea of this passage?
A. Listening and sharing can make you happier.
B. People know how to solve their own problems.
C. It is wrong to give advice to solve problems.
D. You should learn to believe in other people.

When I was a child, I often dreamed of the time when I could leave home and escape to the city. We lived on a farm, in the winter especially, we wear quite out off from the outside world. As soon as I left school, I packed my bags and moved to the capital.
However, I soon discovered that one big disadvantage is money. It costs so much to go out, not to mention basics like food and housing. Another disadvantage is pollution. I suffer from asthma(哮喘), and  the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of traveling round. Although I have a car, I seldom use it became of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but that can be quite dangerous.
Of course there are advantages. First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever you tastes in culture or entertainment(娛樂活動). Besides, there are wonderful jobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally, if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising --- and , what is more, shops are often only a short walk away.
Is life better then, in the city? Perhaps it is , when you are in your teens(十幾歲)or twenties. However, as you get older, and especially if you have small children, the peace of the countryside may seem preferable. I certainly hope to move back there soon.

On the last day of the tour we were traveling through the peaceful French countryside when our guide came on the microphone. He said,“We are presently passing through World War I battlefields just south of Vimy Ridge. If you look to your right, just across the field there, you will see the war memorial that the people of France built to the Canadian soldiers who fought so bravely here.Even today some residents from the surrounding towns place flowers on the memorial regularly. My dear Canadian friends at the back of the bus, I would like to say thank you for the unselfish acts of your Canadian soldiers.”
Across the grassy field, the stone monument stood proud against the French sky.A Canadian flag rippled softly in the calm breeze.Lost in the moment, I could imagine the sights and sounds of war.Suddenly an unexpected wave of emotion swept over me.I felt great sadness for those men who never returned home to Canada, but at the same time my heart was filled with an enormous sense of pride.Tears welled up in my eyes.I was embarrassed by my uncontrolled reaction. As I turned around I realized that each of my friends had experienced the same feelings, their eyes also wet with tears.
