If you have ever been left wondering why your emails are riddled(充斥著) with grammatical errors, or why you can never quite find the right phrase, it may be because you are typing with both hands.
Our vocabulary becomes richer and our writing style becomes more fluent when we type using just one hand, scientists have found. "Typing can be too fluent or too fast, and it can actually weaken the writing process," said Srdan Medimorec, the lead author of the study conducted at the department of psychology at the University of Waterloo, Canada. "It seems that what we write is a product of the interaction(互動(dòng)) between our thoughts and the tools we use to express them."
Using text-analysis software, researchers asked 103 university students to write essays under different conditions, using one hand to type and using both hands to type. The software was used to analyze(分析) elements of the essays, such as range of vocabulary, sentence complexity and the cohesion(銜接) of the writing.
Researchers found that participants' vocabulary became more advanced when they typed with one hand rather than two. The research team said that by slowing our writing down, typing one-handed allows more time for an internal (內(nèi)在的) word search, resulting in a larger variety of words.
In contrast, fast typists might just write the first word that comes to mind. However, it is important not to slow typing down too much. Those who typed essays one-handed in the current study slowed down to about the speed of handwriting.
This is the first study to show that changing people’s typing can make their writing get better. The researchers suggested that the speed of writing could affect writing quality regardless of the tools used, whether they are computers, or pen and paper, although further research would be required to prove that idea.
1. The underlined “it” in the second paragraph refers to______.
A. the writing style
B. typing too fast or fluently
C. the vocabulary
D. which hand to use for typing
2. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A. The study was carried out in 103 universities.
B. The researchers drew the conclusion by interviewing students about their feelings in the writing process.
C. The typing speed should be as slow as possible.
D. There is no previous study related to the topic before.
3. What is the author’s attitude to the research according to the passage?
A. objective B. doubtful
C. critical D. supportive
4.Which is the best title of the passage?
A. How to become a good writer?
B. Typing with both hands could make you a worse writer.
C. Slower typing, fewer mistakes.
D. Elements weakening the writing process

Most of us have gone away from “mad men” in the street, only to realize that they are in fact using a Bluetooth headset. Now a new University of Pennsylvania study shows that muttering can actually help people find lost objects—in other words, saying the name of an object helps you find it more quickly.
Previous work has suggested that speaking aloud while performing step-by-step tasks, like tying shoelaces (鞋帶), can help kids guide their behavior and let them focus on the job in hand. However, scientists were not sure if speaking aloud when performing tasks could help adults in the same way, especially when looking for particular objects. Professor Gary Lupan and Daniel Swingley, writing for the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, carried out some experiments. They hoped to give the fact that next time you lose your keys, muttering “keys, keys, keys” can in fact help you find them.
Inspired by viewing people muttering to themselves as they try to find things like peanut butter in a supermarket, the researchers conducted two experiments to see if this actually worked. In the first, participants were shown 20 pictures of various objects and were asked to find a certain one, with some seeing a text label (標(biāo)簽) telling them what they were looking for. These participants were then asked to search for the object again while saying the word to themselves, with results showing that saying it aloud helped people find the object more quickly.
The second experiment saw participants performing a shopping task, where they were shown photographs of items (物品) commonly found on supermarket shelves. They were asked to find all examples of a particular item, so if they were asked for apples they had to find all the bags of apples, as quickly as possible. The researchers found that there was also an advantage in saying the name of the product aloud when they were searching for something familiar.
The University of Pennsylvania study shows that muttering can actually help people reach the target object—in other words, muttering to oneself helps to focus the mind on something. It works more effectively than seeing a written description. Repeating the word over and over again helps even more.
1.The second paragraph tells us that ________.
A. muttering helps people to control their behavior
B. muttering has the same effect on both kids and adults
C. it is really hard to carry out the experiments on adults
D. it is easier for kids to do step-by-step tasks by muttering
2.According to the passage, muttering can help people in a way that ________.
A. it completely controls people’s mind
B. it directly explains people’s behavior
C. they concentrate more on their job at hand
D. they reduce their pressure from their mind
3.The two experiments mentioned in the passage show that ________.
A. participants were better at doing the shopping task
B. it took the participants the same time to find the objects
C. showing pictures of the items helped find them more quickly
D. participants saying aloud the word found the object more quickly
4.What is the best title of the passage?
A. Effects of Muttering
B. How to Find Lost Objects
C. What to Mutter to Yourself
D. Methods of Remembering Objects

Free energy is everywhere around us. There are many ways to make and collect energy from various sources like sun, wind and water. People also realize that everyday stuff can be a source of energy too. For example, riding a bike, running or just walking, etc. We simply have to change our way of thinking if we want to change the world.
So comes the idea of solar roadways. Are they the road of future? Why use roads just for driving and collecting tolls (過(guò)路費(fèi))? Why don’t we use them for collecting energy?
The US Department of Transportation recently awarded $100,000 to Solar Roadways to build the first ever Solar Road Panel. So how do these future roads work?
The Solar Road Panels will contain embedded (嵌入的) LEDs which “paint” the road lines from beneath to provide safer nighttime driving as well as to give drivers instant instructions such as detour (繞行) ahead. The road will be able to sense wildlife on the road and can warn drivers to “slow down”. There will also be embedded heating elements in the surface to prevent snow and ice buildup, providing safer winter driving.
Replacing asphalt (瀝青) roads and parking lots with Solar Roadway Panels will be a major step toward stopping climate change. Fully electric vehicles will be able to recharge along the roadway and in parking lots, finally making electric cars practical for long trips.
We just can’t wait to see more of these roads all over the world in the near future.
1.The first paragraph serves as a(n) ________.
A. argumentB. commentC. explanationD. background
2.When some animals are on the solar road, what will the road do?
A. Guide them to a safer place.
B. Remind drivers to drive slowly.
C. Frighten them away from the road.
D. Advise drivers to choose another way.
3.From the text, we can know that the Solar Road Panels can ________.
A. provide heat for drivers in winter
B. guide drivers who get lost on the highway
C. melt snow and ice soon in winter
D. help drivers see the road clearly in the sun
4.What is the text mainly about?
A. Functions of the road in the future.
B. Development of solar energy.
C. Free energy on the road.
D. Solar road of the future.
