[1]It is believed that in such a competitive age, art education is close to an unnecessary part in schools today. However, most of the advantages that a student would gain out of a basic education in art are almost unbelievable.
[2]There has been years of research involved in the importance of art education and what art education goals are. The studies prove that what students gain out of an art education is almost unbeatable, where any other course is concerned.
[3]Motivation, inspiration and concentration are some of the most prominently recorded benefits that a young student can get from taking education. For a young person’s personal growth and development an education in art is something that is considered to be very important as changing the way one looks at the world.
[4]A child whose parents are rich will naturally and very often be exposed to art, whether it is in the form of art pieces hanging at home or visits to fashionable art museums etc. This has again been seen over the years by researchers. At the same time, it has been noticed that exposure to art is something that is very distant for children who belong to families with little money and they end up spending their childhood without forming any connection with art.
[5]Art education goals in school therefore should be that ________ the wonders of art should be given to all students, whatever age group and whatever their family backgrounds are, because one never knows where talent might be hidden.
[6]However, art education goals have been slipping away from our education system for more twenty years now as people have begun to pay less importance to the requirement of art in their children’s lives. The reasons for this could be stressful budgets as well as stuffing of curriculum in classrooms s part of State mandates. Whatever these unfortunate reasons are, people have to once again realize art education goals and how they can actually be helping each student.

When knowing his son got a C grade in the maths exam, the father was proud and cheerful. This is the tear-jerking moment when a proud father is captured on camera celebrating his son's exam result.
After setting up the hidden camera, the boy calls his father to the kitchen, telling him in a whisper 'I've just got something from school; I need you to come and look at it.' His father, who can be heard shouting from elsewhere in the house, asks 'Has something happened?', to which the naughty teenager, Aria, replies 'Yes! It's really important'. As his nervous-looking father approaches, Aria says 'Come and have a chat with me. Just come in, and read that', he says while passing over a piece of paper displaying the result.
After seeing his son has achieved a C grade in the maths exam, the man asks 'Is that veracious?,' before bursting into tears of joy. The pair hug before the disbelieving dad asks again, 'Are you sure? They've not made a mistake? I can't believe it; I just can't believe it!'
A mere year before the video was filmed, the schoolboy received an F in the subject. He explained,'In England you need a C to basically do anything with your life. I've never been amazing academically and have struggled through school. Neither me or my dad or my teachers thought I was going to get my C, for me it was tough. When I told my Dad who means the world to me this was his reaction...Enjoy'.

[1]Everyone wants something in life, love, money, success and so on. Yet too many people fail to achieve their goals, and nearly all of them are for the same reason.
[2]It‘s true that terrible things do happen to people during their lives, though no fault of their own,  which may make them feel upset. Generally speaking, however, getting what you really want out of life is just a matter of the following three simple steps.
[3]Firstly, you have to decide what it is you want the most. But do not make a list of wishes; try to focus on one thing at a time. If you‘re not sure about where you want to go, you‘d better think it over first and not hurry to perform.
[4]Secondly, create an action plan. This will be your map for getting from ”___________________” to ”where you want to go”. You know what you want, and what steps you are going to take to get it. For example, if you want a better job, start with a skills assessment(評價) and maybe some extra training. Then you‘ll need to sell yourself and your skills either to your present employer or to a new employer.
[5]Other goals will require a bit more thought. Some will really get you lost without a clue of how to get there. Not to worry, though, books, biographies and such, can be of great help.
[6]The third and final step is to execute. Do what you planned. Take the steps you outlined on your road map and keep going on all the time. If you run into some people who are against you, simply ignore them.
[7]Never give up the goal. Keep pushing. Whatever you do, do not lose heart until you have what you desire in your hands. Never think that you can’t turn your dream into a reality.

Directions: Read the following passage.  Answer the. questions according to the information given in the passage.
As an English teacher. I've been lucky enough to travel to many countries. I've seen people celebrating everything from the arrival of new babies to the delivery of new cars. I've attended weddings, parties and religious celebrations in countries as far apart as Argentina and Japan, and I've noticed that gold - the metal or the colour is almost always part of cultural events, traditions and celebrations.
From  'mashallah'  gold tokens(紀念品)  that people give to babies in Turkey,  to the gold stars that primary teachers stick on their students' exercise books. to the gold coffin that the 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson was buried in. it makes me wonder: Why do people love gold?
For some people, gold seems to be a status symbol. Indian businessman Datta Phuge loves gold so much that he's even bought a shirt made of the stuff-at a cost of $ 250,000. Datta Phuge has his reasons.   He explains :  "Some elite (杰出人物)people want to own an Audi or Mercedes(奔馳) and have big cars. I chose gold. "
For other people, gold is an investment.  The price of gold generally increases over time-and in European markets it reached over $ 1,500 per ounce in 2011.
And for many people, the family heirloom(傳家寶)brings together status and investment. My mother has a gold bracelet that was given to her by her grandmother-who, in turn. inherited it from her own grandmother.   It's quite a heavy piece and probably worth quite a lot of money.  But its sentimental value is greater than its value in dollars:  It ' s a beautiful object that holds many family memories. When the time comes, my mum will give the bracelet to me.
So, status and investment are good reasons to value gold. But, I think that the real reason people love gold is because it can be made into beautiful objects.  Think about Tutankhamen' s death mask. People love gold because it captures our minds, our imaginations and. above all, our hearts.

[1]When children go to camp, they are on their own, sometimes for the very first time in their lives. They have to decide what to wear , what to eat and which activities to participate in . As a result they develop confidence and independence.
[2]As self-respect develops from learning to be on their own, children continues to try new activities . Also it is possible that they will engage in what they are unfamiliar with. In school, children do not experience success in the same way. Camp can be a school without failure because just having fun makes them a success.
[3] One of the greatest benefits of a camp experience is that children develop social skills. In camp setting, a good counselor(顧問) will make sure that every camper is included in the activity and that each child interacts with the others in a positive way. They learn to give and take, and they learn how to work and cooperate, Something as simple as clean-up , is not only there to get the cabin clean, but to promote a team atmosphere of working sogether which in turn results in friendship.
[4] The obvious benefit of camp is that campers make long lasting friendships .These friendships can often be unique and special because campers are living with each other and see the true personalities. Children learn to see others from a different viewpoint. Children tend to be accepted for who they are and do not have to be concerned about what they wear, what they are good at and how they look. This is because in a camp setting , respect and caring finally win out over materialistic(唯物的)objectives.
[5] In a word, camp does give children fun, friends and fulfillment.

I still remember the days when I was a youthful student in an engineering school. I lived a casual life, without caring about the future. I smoked, drank with friends and made girl friends. Little did I realize that casualness would certainly lead to loss.
Two years had passed and I was staring down a report card that highlighted FALL in more than half the subjects. I didn’t care, at least not until my dad found about it. You see, I studied In India and unlike the United States where the students are expected to finance their own education, my dad financed me.
Then came the day when my dad found out my habit of smoking. He lost his temper but he just told me, “Son, your allowance is cut in half from this moment on”. It hit me like a roundhouse kick.(回旋踢) from Bruce Lee. I was shocked out of my bones. I couldn’t comprehend how to pay off the debts that I had accumulated in college. I owed everybody money: the grocery store, the bars, the restaurants, my friends, etc. I was living a life filled with credit.
When I went back to college, I knew that if I don’t change the way I live my life I won’t be able to pay everybody off. So I decided to make some changes. I quit smoking, cut off from my friends who led me down the wrong the road, starting hanging out in libraries and reading my engineering books.
One year later, I went from a miserable failure to a magna cum laude(優(yōu)等成績). Life was never the same again. This incident made me know that anything is possible if you take action and do something about it, however small or large. Even today it still motivates me when I feel that I’m about to lose or give up. It reminds me that I can do it.

Rome had the Forum, London has Speaker’s Corner. Now always-on-the-go New Yorkers have Liz and Bill.
Liz and Bill, two college graduates in their early 20s, have spent a whole year trying to have thousands of people talk to them in subway stations and on busy street corners. Just talk.
Using a 2-foot-tall sign that says,“Talk to Me,” they attract conversationalists, who one evening included a mental patient, and men in business suits.
They don’t collect money. They don’t push religion(宗教). So what’s the point?
“To see what happens,” said Liz. “ We simply enjoy life with open communication.”
Shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks, they decided to walk from New York City to Washington, a 270-mile trip. They found they loved talking to people along the way and wanted to continue talking with strangers after their return.
“It started as a crazy idea,” Liz said.“ We were so curious about all the strangers walking by with their life stories. People will talk to us about anything:their jobs, their clothes, their childhood experiences, anything.”
Denise wanted to talk about an exam she was about to take. She had stopped by for the second time in two days, to let the two listeners know how it went.
Marcia had lost her husband to a serious disease. “That was very heavy on my mind,” Marcia said, “To be able to talk about it to total strangers was very good,” she explained.
To celebrate a year of talking, the two held a get-together in a city park for all the people they had met over the past year. A few hundred people showed up, as well as some television cameramen and reporters.
They may plan more parties or try to attract more people to join their informal talks. Some publishers have expressed interest in a book, something they say they’ll consider.

【1】If you are worried about things and are under a lot of stress at work or school, then you are probably not sleeping well. Worry can keep you awake, tossing and turning in bed until the early hours of the morning when you eventually fail asleep. When you wake up, you don't feel refreshed, but tired and worn out and unable to face a new day.
【2】Dr Henry Winkle wrote an article in a recent newspaper, which indicates that          . Dr Winkle says, “The more we worry, the less we sleep, the more we are unable to deal with stress. If we can find a way to get a good night's sleep,” he adds, “we can often find the energy to deal with what's worrying us.”
【3】So, what is a good night's sleep? Research shows that the amount of sleep which people need in order to keep healthy varies a lot. Seven hours in about the average amount, though strangely enough, sleeping longer often gives you a headache instead of making you feel more refreshed.
【4】Dr Winkle believes that preparing for sleeping is important. People who work late should try to give themselves a short break and do something restful before going to bed. This could be watching TV or listening to music. Doing some exercise earlier in the day should help you to feel physically as well as mentally tired. A bedtime drink can also help, but coffee or tea should be avoided as they contain caffeine and will keep you awake. “When you put the light out,” Dr Winkle says, “ concentrate on relaxing your muscles, working slowly up from your feet, and you'll be asleep before you know it.”
