As the picture shows, many people enjoy playing with their mobile phones even when they are walking, riding a bike or driving a car. Such phenomenon deserves our attention.

Being addicted to playing with mobile phones is harmful to us. First, if we spend too much time on them, we are likely to ignore the people around us. As a matter of fact, many young people lack the communication skills to develop a pleasant relationship with others. Besides, it is dangerous to play with mobile phones while walking, riding or driving, which is a main cause of road accidents.

It is time to reflect on our behavior. The mobile phone is designed to help us communicate with others conveniently, not to spoil our life.

【題目】If anything can be said about recordbreaking globetrotter (環(huán)球旅行家) Graham Hughes, it's that— throughout his travels— he's always kept his feet firmly on the ground.

The 33yearold adventurer, from Liverpool, has become the first person to visit all 201 countries in the world without using a plane.

Hughes used buses, taxis, trains and his own two feet to travel 160,000 miles in exactly 1,426 days — all on a shoestring(資金微薄) of just $100 a week.

He spent four days “crossing open ocean in a leaky (漏的) boat” to reach Cape Verde on the North Atlantic, was jailed for a week in the Congo for being mistaken as a “spy”, and was arrested trying to “sneak (溜;偷偷地做) into” Russia.

And yesterday Graham Hughes trudged (長途跋涉) into Juba, the capital of South Sudan, to end the epic fouryear journey that began in his hometown of Liverpool on New Year's Day 2009.

“I love travel, and I guess my reason for doing it was that I wanted to see if this could be done, by one person traveling on a shoestring,” he told the Christian Science Monitor. “I think I also wanted to show that the world is not some big, scary place, but in fact it is full of people who want to help you even if you are a stranger.”

Guinness has now confirmed that Hughes, who filmed the expedition for a documentary and raised money for charity Water Aid, has achieved the world record.

“The main feeling today is just one of intense gratitude to every person around the world who helped me get here, by giving me a lift, letting me stay on their couch, or pointing me in the right direction,” Hughes added.

1Which of the following is NOT described Graham Hughes?

A. Globetrotter.

B. Adventurer.

C. The first person traveling around the world not using a plane.

D. Scientist.

2Which of the following is NOT true according to the text?

A. When he traveled on the ocean, his boat was leaking water.

B. He was put into prison because of being considered a spy in the Congo.

C. He was caught in Russia because he stole something.

D. It was in South Sudan that he ended his epic fouryear journey.

3Why did Hughes make the world record that he had achieved into the film — the expedition for a documentary?

A. Because he wanted to be remembered by people all over the world.

B. Because he wanted to raise money for charity Water Aid.

C. Because he only wanted to record his experience.

D. Because he wanted to earn money.

4What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A. When he traveled all over the world, he got a lot of help from different people.

B. He often sleeps on the coach.

C. He often points the direction for others.

D. He is grateful to the people who have helped him.

I am so exciting that I can’t wait to share with you what I experienced today. I gave my first lesson in our school, which left me deep impression.

When I entered into the classroom, my students began to make much noise. I stood on the platform not know what to do next. But soon I realized everything must be done. I asked the kids that liked English songs. They all say “Yes.” I sang a song I had practiced many times. To my great surprise, all the kids turned their attentions to my class.

From this experience I know however happens, we must stay calmly first and find a wise solution.

【題目】Who could have imagined that a treadmill(跑步機)on wheels would one day become a thing?!? Lopifit is an unusual means of transportation that allows you to power an electric bicycle by walking on a treadmill.

Lopifit founder Bruin Bergmeester says it all started when he asked himself the question “How can I use a treadmill outdoors?” He finally came up with a new design, adding an electric motor, and the Lopifit was born. It’s similar to an electric bicycle in that the motor only works when the rider puts power in as well. The Lopifit senses when you walk on the treadmill and uses the motor to turn a drive chain at the back of the treadmill, helping you reach a top speed of 17 miles per hour.

To use the Lopifit, simply turn on the battery(電池)and use your foot to slide the treadmill backwards and start the motor. Then get on and enjoy the ride! If you need speed, just walk on the treadmill, and if you want to coast(慣性滑行), all you have to do is stay still and admire the view. To stop, you have two hand breaks.

The Lopifit first hit the streets in 2014 and, unsurprisingly, became a hit overnight. That was actually quite challenging for the company, because it started getting calls for orders, but it was nowhere near ready for mass production. The unique treadmill bicycle could be bought this year, and Lopifit is struggling to keep up with demand, although the price is up to $2,115.

Some people consider this means of transportation stupid and unnecessary, although there is a very loyal fan-base of so-called Lopifitters. They simply believe that if you’re going to walk, you might as well do it the old-fashioned way.

But the Lopifit does have the special advantage of helping you “walk” really fast without much effort, or walking at cycling speed, if you will.

1Lopifit is an electric bicycle which ________.

A. can be powered by the drive chain

B. can work without an electric motor

C. works when you walk on the treadmill

D. stops when you slide the treadmill forward

2What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?

A. The design of a Lopifit. B. The function of a Lopifit.

C. The structure of a Lopifit. D. The operation of a Lopifit.

3What is probably the author’s attitude towards Lopifit?

A. Confident. B. Concerned.

C. Curious. D. Doubtful.

Dear Jack,

I’m sorry to hear that you feel lonely in the new school, because you find hard to make friends. Now, I’d like to offer you any advice.

Firstly, it’s normal for you to feel lonely because you were living in a new environment. Secondly, you should greet your classmates when met them on campus. Thirdly, it will be a good idea if you take an actively part in class activities, what can help them learn more about you. I believe you will be able to make new friends soon unless you’re friendly to the others.

I hope the suggestion above will be helpful to you and everything will be fine with you for the future.

Yours,

Li Hua
