Thinking about the way we use water every day can make a big difference ,too In the United States ,a family of four can use 1.5tons of water a day ! This shows how much we depend on water to live ,but there’s a lot we can do to lower the number .

You can take steps to save water in your home .To start with ,use the same glass for your drinking water all day .Wash it only once a day .Run your dishwasher (洗碗機(jī))only when it is full 。Help your parents fix any leaks in your home . You can even help to keep our water supply clean by recycling batteries instead of throwing them away .

As a boy growing up in India, I had longed to travel abroad. I used to listen to the stories my father would tell me about his stay in Canada and tours to Europe in the 1970s, with great interest.

My big moment finally came in the summer of 1998 when I was able to accompany my parents to Europe, where my father was to attend a meeting. We planned to travel to Belgium, Netherlands and West Germany.

I have clear memories even today of going to Mumbai airport at night all excited about finally going abroad. I had heard several great things about Lufthansa till then but now I finally got to experience them first hand, during the flight to Frankfurt. We flew business class and even today I can remember the excellent service by the Lufthansa crew (工作人員). The flight was really smooth and thoroughly enjoyable, even for someone like me, who is especially afraid of flying.

After spending almost two weeks in Europe, we took the Lufthansa airport express from Dusseldorf to Frankfurt airport, for our return flight. What a journey that was! All along the Rhine (萊茵河), it was simply an unforgettable experience. I had a sombre feeling on the flight back to Mumbai as it marked the end of a wonderful vacation, but the Lufthansa crew members were able to change it into a most enjoyable experience yet again, with the quality of their service.

Being the first airline to take me abroad, Lufthansa will always hold a special place in my heart. Even today,I continue to enjoy flights on Lufthansa and simply cannot dream of choosing any other airline. Flying, in general, for me,has always been a terrible and painful experience.Flying on Lufthansa, however, is something I always have and always will look forward to.

“A very destructive seven-year old child kicked my legs and scratched at my hand,” said one teacher. “I broke up a fight and was kicked,” said another. Many people have heard stories like this. But the situation is more worrying still and it involves parents.

Every child, regardless of the circumstances into which they are born, has the right to achieve their potential, regardless of their parents’ wealth and class. And we recognize that, as a nation, it is a long way to achieve this goal. But rights come with responsibilities and what worries people is that we are in danger of neglecting the latter.

Far too many children are behaving badly at school, even to the point of being violent to staff. This is terrible enough, but it is hard to be surprised since many children are just mirroring the behavior of their parents. Too many are starting school unable to hold a knife and fork, unused to eating at a table, and unable to use the lavatory properly.

We are in danger of becoming a nation of families living separate lives under one roof. The bedroom, once a place to sleep, has become the living space for the young. Spending hours in front of computer screens, on social networking sites or being immersed in computer games, children and young people spend little time with their parents. Parents are unable to monitor just what their children are watching.

Schools cannot right the wrongs of society and teachers cannot become substitute parents. Both parties need to work together. Parents must be helped and given confidence to take back control. They are responsible for setting boundaries for their children’s behavior and sticking to those boundaries when the going gets tough. They are responsible for setting a good example to their children and for devoting that most precious of resources---time---so that children come to school ready and willing to learn.

1.What problem do people ignore in the writer’s opinion?

A. The school violence.

B. The pressure of students’ learning.

C. The right to achieve students’ potential.

D. Students’ responsibilities.

2.The writer’s attitude to the behaviors of parents may be that of .

A. dissatisfaction B. sympathy C. understanding D. tolerance

3.The underlined part in Paragraph 4 may mean .

A. children don’t live with their parents in the same room

B. parents care little about children’s life at home

C. children spend little time with their parents at home

D. parents attempt to establish a good relationship with their children

4.From the last paragraph,we can infer that .

A. school can’t correct the wrongs that society does to teachers

B. teachers have no responsibility for playing the role of parents

C. parents should spend time with children making them ready to learn

D. students are responsible for making themselves known in society

5.What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Children’s behavior at school is worrying people

B. Parents expect schools to correct their children’s bad habit

C. There is no point in parents’teaching children at home

D. Don’t blame teachers when it’s parents who are failing

Recently a research was carried out in London,Birmingham and Leeds among teachers from different schools about student behavior management.

The majority of teachers said that behavior management is the biggest challenge they face in teaching. They are against the idea of a “one size fits all” approach to behavior management and believe that how they deal with behavior depends on their analysis of what is driving the behavior. Many teachers make the analysis in three steps.First, observe what the student is doing;then look into what drives the behavior and finally identify what is the real problem to deal with,e.g.attention seeking or being unable to follow the lessons etc..However,many teachers felt it sometimes difficult as schools did not always effectively communicate the necessary information about the students for them to do it.

The behaviors are generally divided into low,mid and high level.Teachers felt low and high level behavior was easy to analyze and deal with because low level behavior was seen as the least serious of a problem;and there is clear structure in place for dealing with high level behavior. However, there is no clear structure and effective ways to address mid?level behavior, which may cause a sense of failure in some teachers.

Teachers also felt that the laws to protect pupils have resulted in a sense of teachers having fewer rights to manage behavior. In case they deal with or be seen to deal with behavior wrongly or improperly, the results could be very serious:damage the child or teacher, especially their career.

1.What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.Ways to deal with student behavior problems.

B.Importance to manage student behavior.

C.Three levels of student behavior.

D.Teachers’ difficulties in managing student behavior.

2.Why is it sometimes difficult to analyze student behavior?

A.Most of the students refuse to talk to teachers about it.

B.Some student behaviors are not easy to notice.

C.Teachers do not have enough information about the students.

D.Teachers tend to deal with different problems in the same way.

3.Which of the following is NOT true?

A.Most teachers believe behavior management is their biggest challenge.

B.Teachers feel high level behavior is the most difficult to deal with.

C.There is no clear structure in place to deal with mid?level behavior.

D.Some students behave badly only to attract others’ attention.

4.What can be inferred from the passage?

A.A teacher risks losing the job if he/she manages student behavior improperly.

B.Teachers in England are not willing to manage student behaviors.

C.English laws forbid teachers punishing their students for their behaviors.

D.The laws to protect children in England are going to be changed.

What makes a gift special? Is it the price you see on the gift receipt?Or is it the look on the recipient's face when they receive it that determines the true value? What gift is worth the most?

This Christmas I was debating what to give my father. My dad is a hard person to buy for because he never wants anything. I pulled out my phone to read a text message from my mom saying that we were leaving for Christmas shopping for him when I came across a message on my phone that I had locked. The message was from my father. My eyes fell on a photo of a flower taken in Wyoming, and underneath a poem by William Blake. The flower, a lone dandelion standing against the bright blue sky, inspired me. My dad had been reciting those words to me since I was a kid. That may even be the reason why I love writing. I decided that those words would be my gift to my father.

I called back. I told my mom to go without me and that I already created my gift. I sent the photo of the cream?colored flower to my computer and typed the poem on top of it. As I was arranging the details another poem came to mind. The poem was written by Edgar Allan Poe;my dad recited it as much as he did the other.I typed that out as well and searched online for a background to the words of it. The poem was focused around dreaming, and after searching I found the perfect picture. The image was painted with blues and greens and purples, twisting together to create the theme and wonder of a dream. As I watched both poems passing through the printer, the white paper coloring with words that shaped my childhood, I felt that this was a gift that my father would truly appreciate.

Christmas soon arrived. The minute I saw the look on my dad's face as he unwrapped those swirling black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame, I knew I had given the perfect gift.

1.The idea for a special gift began to form when the author was ________.

A.doing shopping B.having a debate

C.reading a message D.leaving for Wyoming

2.The author's inspiration for the gift came from ________.

A.a(chǎn) photo of a flower B.a(chǎn) story about a kid

C.a(chǎn) call from the mother D.a(chǎn) text about Christmas

3.The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refers to a poem by ________.

A.the father B.the author C.william Blake D.edgar Allan Poe

4.The author made the gift by ________.

A.searching for the poems online

B.drawing the background by hand

C.painting the letters in three colors

D.matching the words with pictures

5.What is the main purpose of the passage?

A.To show how to design images for gifts.

B.To suggest making gifts from one's heart.

C.To explain how computers help create gifts.

D.To describe the gifts the author has received.
