[1] Hurt may occur at any time in our daily life, and forgiving someone who has hurt you or let you down is never an easy thing.Several new studies, however, say that  it could have a lot of health benefits. When you think of forgiveness, you probably don’t think of it as being a health or medical problem.Studies from Stanford University, on the other hand, show that something like anger can ________.
[2] When cartoon book characters like the Incredible Hulk get angry, they change colors and often gain special power. In the real world, anger is less obvious and may be more dangerous. That’s why Professor Fred Luskin, founder of the Stanford Forgiveness for Good, says being angry can harm your physical and mental health. Two new studies seem to show the same idea.
[3] The studies find that people who are able to forgive feel less stress, less back pain, and less depression. They also have fewer headache, lower blood pressure, and fewer problems on sleeping.
[4] So it doesn’t matter if your anger is caused by the traffic or other things.Learning to let it go is important. Techniques such as deep breath or thought can help. Or just ask yourself if it’s worth hurting yourself by staying angry with someone else.
[5] Forgiveness does not mean that you simply accept what happened and say it’s OK. Instead, it’s a way of making peace with yourself about what happened in the past.

Not long ago, many people believed that babies only wanted food and to be kept warm and dry. Some people thought babies were not able to learn things until they were five or six months old. But doctors in the United States now say babies begin learning on their first day of life.
A baby learns to get the best care possible by smiling to please her mother or other caregiver. This is how babies learn to connect and communicate with other people.
The researchers say this ability to learn exists in a baby even before birth. They say newborn babies can recognize and understand sounds they heard while they were still developing inside their mothers.
Experts say the first three years of a child’s life are the most intensive period of language and speech development. This is the time when the brain is developing. Language and communication skills are believed to develop best in an environment that is rich with sounds and sights. Experts say babies should repeatedly hear the speech and language of other people.
America’s National Institutes of Health says evidence suggests there are important periods of speech and language development in children. The ability to learn a language will be more difficult if these periods pass without early contact with a language.
The first signs of communication happen during the first few days of life, when a baby learns that crying will bring food and attention. Research shows that most children recognize the general sounds of their native language by six months of age. By that time, a baby usually begins to make sounds. These sounds become a kind of nonsense speech over time.

[1]It's safe, it's simple, and it works: Drinking right amounts of water really can help you lose weight, new research shows.
[2]In what researchers claim is the first-ever trial of the effect of water consumption on weight loss, scientists from Virginia Tech found that dieters who started each meal with two glasses of water lost nearly five pounds more, on average, than dieters who did not, over the course of 12 weeks. There's no shortage of clear evidence about how water might work to control your appetite (食欲). It ________________ so you don't eat so much; it keeps down your thirst so that you don't turn to calorie-rich sodas or juices. But until now, the researchers say, there has been no true evidence that water's appetite-controlling benefits ever translate into actual weight loss. Now there is. In the 12-week study period, dieters instructed to drink water with every meal lost an average of 15.5 pounds; dieters given no instructions lost, on average, just 11 pounds.
[3]Perhaps the most surprising thing about the finding is how little we still know about healthy water consumption in general. In fact, although doctors and public health authorities regularly remind us to drink more water, very few studies give any insight into what our ideal quantity may be.
[4]The new results today suggest that many people could indeed stand to drink a little more water than they do. But if you're looking to lose weight, be aware that it is actually possible to drink too much water, and you probably won't help matters any by drinking too much water at a time. In extreme cases, it can even be deadly. A couple of glasses with each meal, however, should be no problem at all for a healthy person.

Joe Templer should have known better. After all, he works for a large auto insurance company. It won't hurt to leave the key in the truck this once, he thought, as he filled his gas tank at a self service gas station. But moments later, as he was paying the money, he saw the truck being driven away.
In 1987, 1.6 million motor vehicles were stolen in the United States one every 20 seconds. If _________________, experts predict annual vehicle thefts could exceed two million by the end of the decade.
Vehicle theft is a common phenomenon, which has a direct impact on over four million victims a year. The cost is astonishing.
Many police officials blame professional thieves for the high volume of the thefts. It is a major money maker for organized crime. Typically, stolen cars are taken to pieces and the parts sold to individuals. But as many as 200,000 cars are smuggled out of the country every year. Most go to Latin America, the Middle East and Europe.
Only about 15 percent car thefts result in an arrest, because few police departments routinely conduct in depth auto investigations. When thieves are arrested, judges will often sentence them to probation(緩刑), not immediately put them in prison because the prisons are overcrowded with violent criminals.
One exception is a Michigan program that assigns 92 police officers to work full time on the state's 65,000 car theft cases a year. Since 1986, when the effort began, the state's auto theft rate has fallen from second in the nation to ninth.

The world’s first subway was built in London in 1863. At the time the government was looking for a way to reduce traffic problems in the city of London. The poor areas of the city were so crowded with people that it was almost impossible for horse carriages--- the taxis of those days to get around .
The city officials were interested in trying to make it possible for workers to live outside of London and travel easily to work each day . If people had a cheap and convenient way that they could depend on to get to and from work they would relocate their homes outside of the city. This would help ease the pressure of too many people living in the poor parts of London. From these problems, the idea of the London Underground--- the first subway system was born . The plans for building the Underground met with several problems and delays but the first track was finally opened in January 1863. A steam train pulled the cars along the first underground track which was six kilometers 3.7 miles long. About30000 people got on the subway the first day . Riders were treated to comfortable seats, standing up while the train was moving was not allowed, and pleasant decorations inside each of the cars.
However the smoke from the engine soon filled the air in the tunnels with ash and soot as well as chemical gases. Fans had to be put in the tunnels later to keep the air clean enough for people to breathe. Even with its problems riding the Underground did become popular. It carried nine million riders in its first year. Modern subways have come a long way since the early days of the London Under ground. Today there are 94 large underground rapid transit systems around the world . The busiest of these subway systems is the Tokyo Metro which opened in 1927.This efficient subway has two billion riders per year and “porters ” work on the platforms during busy traffic hours to help push riders onto trains. At times subway cars have been packed with up to 300 people Shopping malls built in high traffic stations where riders move from one train to another have also helped the popularity of subways in Tokyo.
