After Washington's army took up Boston, the Second Continental Congress passed certain measures to bring the colonies(殖民地)into a closer union. Yet in all these discussions, the actual word INDEPENDENCE WAS NEVER OFFICIALLY USED. Many members of the Congress were not ye ready to separate from England.
