Yours,

Li Hua

【答案】Dear Tom,

How are you doing? I'm writing in reply to your letter asking me about comic talk. Comic talk is a traditional Chinese way of entertainment. It's usually performed by two people but it can also be played by one person or more than two. The performers talk about topics of daily life in humorous ways. Comic talks not only amuse and refresh us, but also get us thinking about life.

Many foreigners learn Chinese comic talk because it is a good way to learn spoken Chinese and gives them a better understanding of Chinese culture. So I'm delighted that you are interested in it and I hope you can enjoy learning it.

Best wishes!

Yours, Li Hua

【題目】Blowing bubbles is fun! The best thing about bubbles is that it's easy to make your own bubble solution(溶液). You can make as much as you want and blow as many bubbles as you'd like. Do you know the secret of making bigger and stronger bubbles? Do just as follows:

Measure 6 cups of water into one container, then pour 1 cup of dish soap into the water and slowly stir (攪拌) it until the soap is mixed in. Try not to let bubbles form while you stir.

Measure 1/4 cup of corn syrup and add it to the container. Stir the solution until it is mixed together.

You can use the solution right away, but to make even better bubbles, put the cap on the container and let your super bubble solution sit overnight. The soap mixture on the outside of a bubble is actually made of three very thin layers: soap, water, and another layer of soap. A bubble forms when the water between the layers of soap turns into gas. The corn syrup mixes with the soap to make it thicker. The thicker skin of the bubbles keeps the water from evaporating(蒸發(fā)) quickly, so they last longer. It also makes them stronger, so you can blow bigger bubbles.

Dip a bubble wand or straw into the mixture, slowly pull it out, wait a few seconds, and then blow. If you don't have a ready made "bubble wand", you can make your own bubble wand by cutting off the end of the bulb of a plastic pipet (移液管). Dip the cut end in the solution and blow through the narrow end. You can also make a circle out of thin wire or pipe cleaner. Just twist a round end on your wire to blow the bubbles through. You can even make it heart shaped, square or use other shapes if you're clever enough to bend it well.

1The text is written to _________ .

A. argue B. advertise C. entertain D. instruct

2The secret of making bigger and stronger bubbles lies in_________ .

A. soap B. corn syrup C. water D. straw

3The bubble wand is used to_________ .

A. blow bubbles B. mix the solution C. measure soap D. shape wires

4What can we infer from Paragraph 4?

A. More soap, more bubbles.

B. Less water, better bubbles.

C. Thicker layers, more bubbles.

D. Stronger skin, bigger bubbles.

【題目】Generations of Americans have been brought up to believe that a good breakfast is one of life’s essentials. Eating breakfast at the start of the day, we have all been told again, is as necessary as putting gasoline in the family car before starting a trip.

But for many people the thought of food as first thing in the morning is by no means a pleasure. So despite all the efforts, they still take no breakfast. Between 1977 and 1983, the latest year for which figures are available, the number of people who didn’t have breakfast increased by 33 percent-from 8.8 million to 11.7 million-according to the Chicago-based Market Research Corporation of America.

For those who feel pain or guilt about not earing breakfast, however, there is some good news. Several studies in the last few years indicate that, for adults especially, there may be nothing wrong with not taking breakfast. “Going without breakfast does not affect performance,” said Arnold E. Bender, former professor of nutrition(營養(yǎng))at Queen Elizabeth College in London, “nor doe giving people breakfast improve performance.

Scientific evidence linking breakfast to better health or better performance is surprisingly inadequate, and most of the recent work involves children, not adults. “The literature,” says one researcher, Dr. Ernesto Pollitt at the University of Texas, “is poor.”

1For those who do not take breakfast, the good news is that ______.

A. the missing of breakfast does no harm to one’s health.

B. several studies have been done in the past few years.

C. adults have especially made studies in this field.

D. eating little in the morning is good for health.

2The underlined sentence “…nor doe giving people breakfast improve performance” in the 3rd paragraph means ______.

A. anyone without breakfast does improve his performance.

B. not giving people breakfast improves performance.

C. people having breakfast do improve their performances, too.

D. having breakfast does not improve performance, either.

3The word “literature” in the last sentence refers to ______.

A. stories, poems, plays, etc.

B. written works on particular subject.

C. any printed material.

D. the modern literature of America.

4What is suggested but NOT STATED by the author is that ______.

A. breakfast does not affect performance.

B. Dr. Pollitt is engaged in research work at an institution of higher learning.

C. not eating breakfast might affect the health of children.

D. Professor Bender once taught college courses in nutrition in London.

【題目】閱讀理解
It seems the more time we have, the longer we put off living the life we see in our heads, because we feel like we've got some time to kill.
I know where you think I'm going with this, and I also know you've heard it all before: seize the day, make the most of it, live life to its fullest, and so on. But that's the problem. You've heard it all before. These ideas have their impact and have become a cliché. Luckily, that's not my thing.
The real answers wake something up inside you. They make you think. That's what I want to give you today, the story of Bobby Darin, which wakes you up to the truth.
If you haven't heard of the man, I know you've heard his songs. Among his many hits are Mack the Knife, Beyond the Sea, Dream Lover, and Splish Splash.
If seven years, Darin had several top ten hit songs, was nominated(提名) for four Grammy Awards (winning two), nominated for four Golden Globes (winning one), and even nominated for an Oscar.
So what was his secret?
All his life, Darin had a heart condition that developed from a childhood illness. The doctors at the time said he would be lucky to live to 16. In other words, his time was limited. And this was secret. He knew the truth. He knew that we all have such a hard time accepting: Life is short. You can't just say it; you can't just hear it. You have to know it, believe it, and feel it. Because Darin knew his time was limited, he packed as much life as he could into the time he had. But he had an unfair advantage. He knew, without a doubt, his time was limited.
There was no fooling himself, no putting it off. It was now or never.
(1)Why do we all have the habit of delaying doing things?
A.Because we think we have time to count our thumb.
B.Because we want to live our life to its fullest.
C.Because we think time and tide wait for no man.
D.Because it takes time to build castle.
(2)The underlined word “cliché” in the second paragraph probably means .
A.motto
B.legend
C.often-made remark
D.long-lost verse
(3)What can we know about Bobby Darin from the passage?
A.He was nominated and won the Oscar Reward.
B.He committed suicide at home at last.
C.He got involved I not only music field but directing.
D.He took a positive attitude towards his illness.
(4)What is the secret to Bobby Darin's success?
A.He knew his life expectancy was short.
B.He was too eager to become famous.
C.He was so devoted to music.
D.He was talented.
