One possible version:

Recently I am having some trouble with my friend Helen, which makes me very upset. This is how it happened.

A few months ago, Helen did something wrong at school. She told me about it but wouldn’t like the teacher or any other classmate to know it. So she asked me to keep it a secret. I promised her. But then one day, Helen came back from the teacher’s office and shouted at me angrily, saying that I had broken my promise and let out her secret to the teacher. But I really did not do it. However hard I tried to explain to her, she simply wouldn’t listen to me and decided to break up with me. I feel greatly wronged but really do not know what to do. This event affects my normal life and study. Can you help me with my trouble?

I am looking forward to your reply.

Recently I am having some trouble with my friend Helen, which makes me very upset表明自己的苦惱和寫作意圖,然后以This is how it happened表示事件的開始。第二段以A few months ago開頭,交待了事件發(fā)生的時間,之后長短句結(jié)合,如She told me about it but wouldn’t like the teacher or any other classmate to know it.和 I promised her. 再以轉(zhuǎn)折連詞引導(dǎo)時間狀語But then one day可知,事情的發(fā)展起了變化。最后以This event affects my normal life and study表明這件事對自己的影響,同時也是這件事的結(jié)束部分。值得一提的是在描述事情的開始,發(fā)展,轉(zhuǎn)折和結(jié)束的過程中,作者用到了很多高級詞匯和短語,例如break one’s promise, let out her secret, break up with me和looking forward to等等。這也是文章的一大亮點。

Since the end of World War I in 1918, Canadians, and millions of others around the world have paused at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to honour the sacrifices our soldiers have made in different wars, fighting for the freedoms that we all enjoy today.

Known as Remembrance Day, the day originated as a tribute to the soldiers of WWI, a dark period for our young country, which claimed the lives of over 60,000 military personnel and civilians and over 16 million dead worldwide.

As there are no more surviving soldiers of WWI, today we rely on the wisdom and words of those soldiers who fought in the wars that followed, and this day now also recognizes their heroic contribution.

They tell us to always remember what those brave souls fought for, and all they ask in return is that we never forget.

That's why we wear the red poppy (罌粟花); that's why when we see a soldier in uniform we should stop him or her and say "Thank you"; that's why we take a pause from our busy lives for two short minutes today to honor that request.

Yet this message is fading away, year after year.

Take for example the terrible decision to allow parents to excuse students from Remembrance Day ceremonies at school.

Not only is this disrespectful, but it distances the student from his or her classmates.

It is difficult to understand why any Canadian parent would want to remove their child from the time-honored tradition of reading the poem In Flanders Fields, while a wreath of poppies is laid.

It is more important than ever to teach school-aged children about our history, no matter how violent it was. Preventing them from knowing about the realities of war is a great disservice.

Understanding why conflicts(沖突)happened, or happen today, can help shape choices and decisions they make as adults.

Of course, because we live in a free society, we cannot force an individual to do something.

It is unfortunate, but some parents now have their child "opt-out" of the services. These people should be reminded they are free to make such choices only because of the men and women the rest of us are remembering.

A. It's only held in Canada.

B. Its ceremony lasts 11 hours.

B. Listening to stories told by WWI soldiers.

C. Wearing a red poppy to show respect.

D. Showing gratitude to soldiers in uniform.

3.What can we learn from the passage?

A. War history is too violent for school children.

B. The writer was once a soldier in the Canadian army.

C. Few students are willing to take part in Remembrance Day ceremonies.

D. More parents are keeping their children away from frightening war stories.

4.The underlined word "It" in the last paragraph probably refers to ______.

A. the death of so many soldiers in wars

5.The writer believes that ______.
