Recently, our class has held a class meeting on the topic of whether Chinese stars should seek foreign citizenship. At the meeting, the students were asked the question “Do you still like them when your favorite stars join foreign nationality？”

Most of the students (about 70%) answered “No”. They think it is a betrayal of one's motherland to seek foreign citizenship. They say a person who loves his country will never change his or her nationality.

However, there are some (30%) who show some understanding for this phenomenon. They consider it freedom to change one's citizenship.To gain foreign citizenship, they say, doesn't necessarily mean one doesn't love his or her country. They hold the view that as long as the stars recognize themselves as Chinese, and devote themselves to spreading Chinese culture, and safeguard the image of China at the same time, they will love them as usual.
