14.One year our family decided to have a special celebration of Mother's Day,as a token of appreciations for all the sacrifices that Mother had made for us.After breakfast we had arranged,as a surprise,to hire a car and take her for a beautiful drive in the country.Mother was rarely able to have a treat like that,because she was busy in the house nearly all the time.
But on the very morning of the day,we changed the plan a little,because it occurred to Father that it would be even better to take Mother fishing.As the car was hired and paid for,we might as well use it to drive up into the hills where the streams are.As Father said,if you just go driving without object,you have a sense of aimlessness,but if you are going to fish there is a definite purpose that heightens the enjoyment.
So we all felt it would be nicer for Mother to have a definite purpose.Father had just got a fishing rod the day before,which he said mother could use if she wanted to.Only Mother said she would much rather watch him fish than try to fish herself.
So we got her to make up a sandwich lunch in case we got hungry, though we were to come home again to a big festive dinner.
Well,when the car came to the door,it turned out that there was not as much space in it as we had supposed.It was plain that we couldn't all get in.
Father said that he could just stay home and put in the time working in the garden.He said that there was a lot of rough dirty work that he could do,like digging a trench for the garbage,which would save hiring a man,and so he said that he'd stay home; he said that we were not to let the fact that he had not had a real holiday for three years stand in our way.He wanted us to go right ahead and not to mind him.
But of course we all felt that it would never do to let Father stay home,especially as we knew he would make trouble if he did.The two girls,Anne and Mary,would have stayed and helped the maid get dinner,only it seemed such a pity,for the two girls were eager to show their new hats on a lovely day like this.But they said that Mother had only to say the word and they'd gladly stay home and work.Will and I would have dropped out,but unfortunately we wouldn't have been any use in preparing the dinner.

2.There have always been a lot of commonly believed but false ideas about being fat and doing exercise.Some people believe that they can't help putting an weight as they get older,while others hold that if they stop exercising,their muscles will turn into fat.Here are some more myths
I'll never lose weight--I come from a fat family
Wrong!While we can't change the body type  we are born with,we can't blame our genes for making us fat.There's plenty of evidence  that fatness runs in families,and the main reason is  that they share the same habit of eating too much and exercise too little.
I am fat because I burn calories slowly
Wrong!Fatness is not caused by a slow metabolism(新陳代謝).In fact, although fat people
consume more energy than slim people, they also fail to realize how much they eat]Keeping a diary can help you work out your daily food intake mom accurately.
Exercise is boring
Wrong!Anything will become boring if you do it repetitively. The key is to develop a balanced and
varied program that's fun as well as progressive.If you enjoy a Sunday walk,take a different mute.
If you do yoga,try a tai chi class.If you like swiping,set yourself a distance or time challenge.
No pain,no gain
Wrong!Exercise is not meant to hurt.Indeed,pain is you body telling you something's wrong,and continuing to exercise could lead to serious injury.You may experience mild discomfort as you begin to exercise regularly,but this is your body adapting to the positive changes in your lifestyle and the aches should disappear relatively quickly.If they don't,rest and seek medical advice.
40.What does the author think about being fat?D
A.It is the family genes that make people fat.
B.People are fat because they consume too little energy.

A.By taking varied exercise.
B.By choosing simple exercise.
C.By doing regular exercise.

A.To declare the importance of keeping lit.
B.To clarify some misconceptions about fatness and exercise.

2.Last summer,two nineteenth-century cottages were rescued from remote farm fields in Montana,to be moved to an Art Deco building in San Francisco.The houses were made of wood.These cottages once housed early settlers as they worked the dry Montana soil; now they hold Twitter engineers.
The cottages could be an example of the industry's odd love affair with"low technology,"a concept associated with the natural world,and with old-school craftsmanship (手藝) that exists long before the Internet era.Low technology is not virtual (虛擬的)-so,to take advantage of it,Internet companies have had to get creative.The rescued wood cottages,fitted by hand in the late eighteen-hundreds,are an obvious example,but Twitter's designs lie on the extreme end.Other companies are using a broader interpretation (闡釋) of low technology that focuses on nature.
Amazon is building three glass spheres filled with trees,so that employees can"work and socialize in a more natural,park-like setting."At Google's office,an entire floor is carpeted in glass.Facebook's second Menlo Park campus will have a rooftop park with a walking trail.
Olle Lundberg,the founder of Lundberg Design,has worked with many tech companies over the years."We have lost the connection to the maker in our lives,and our tech engineers are the ones who feel impoverished (貧乏的),because they're surrounded by the digital world,"he says."They're looking for a way to regain their individual identity,and we've found that introducing real crafts is one way to do that."
This craft based theory is rooted in history,William Morris,the English artist and writer,turned back to pre-industrial arts in the eighteen-sixties,just after the Industrial Revolution.The Arts and Crafts movement defined itself against machines."Without creative human occupation,people became disconnected from life,"Morris said.
Research has shown that natural environments can restore(恢復) our mental capacities.In Japan,patients are encouraged to"forest-bathe,"taking walks through woods to lower their blood pressure.
These health benefits apply to the workplace as well.Rachel Kaplvin,a professor of environmental psychology,has spent years researching the restorative effects of natural environment.Her research found that workers with access to nature at the office-even simple views of trees and flowers-felt their jobs were less stressful and more satisfying.If low-tech offices can potentially nourish the brains and improve the mental health of employees then,fine,bring on the cottages.

9.Does Fame Drive You Crazy?
Although being famous might sound like a dream come true,today's star,feeling like zoo animals,face pressures that few of us can imagine.They are at the center of much of the world's attention.Paparazzi (狗仔隊) camp outside their homes,cameras ready.Tabloids (小報) publish thrilling stories about their personal lives.Just
imagine not being able to do anything without being photographed or interrupted for a signature.
According to psychologist Christina Villareal,celebrities-famous people-worry constantly about their public appearance.Eventually,they start to lose track of who they really are,seeing themselves the way their fans imagine them,not as the people they were before everyone knew their names."Over time,"Villareal says,"they feel separated and alone."
The phenomenon of tracking celebrities has been around for ages.In the 4th century B.C.,painters followed
Alexander the Great into battle, hoping to picture his victories for his admirers. When Charles Dickens visited

about his lack of privacy.Tabloids of the 1920s and 1930s ran articles about film-stars in much the same way that modern tabloids and websites do.

ridiculous, there is always the Internet to spread the news in minutes and keep their"story"alive forever.

Sometimes a few celebrities can get a little justice.Still,even stars who enjoy full justice often complain about how hard their lives are.They are tired of being famous already.

63.It can be learned from the passage that stars today.B
A.are often misunderstood by the public

19.The average computer user has between 5 and 15 username/password combinations to log in different kinds of accounts. Some demand you use a specific number of symbols and digits, while others require you to change your password every 60 days. The feeling of confusion resulting from memorizing these login information has grown so common that it actually has a name:password fatigue(疲勞).
Having to remember so many different passwords is annoying, but it can also be dangerous.Because it is virtually impossible to remember a unique password for each of these accounts, many people leave handwritten lists of usernames and passwords on or next to their computers.
(71)GWhile these practices make it easier to remember login information, they also make it easier for thieves to hack into accounts.
Single Sign-On (SSO) confirmation and password management software can help solve this problem. With SSO,users only need to remember one password to log in to the main system.
(72)DSSO software is typically used by large companies, schools,or libraries.
(73)EIf a user loses or forgets the password required to log in to SSO software, the user will then lose access to all of the applications linked to the SSO account.Users who rely on password management software face the same problems.
Although most websites or network systems allow users to recover or change lost passwords by providing email addresses or answering a prompt(提示),this process can waste time and cause further frustration. What is more, recovering a forgotten password is only a temporary solution.
(74)A
Some computer scientists have suggested computers rely on biometrics(生物測定學).(75)F The use of biometrics raises questions concerning privacy and can also be expensive to practice.
Software engineers and computer security experts are still searching for the cure to password fatigue.Until they find the perfect solution, however, everyone will simply have to rely on the password system currently in place.

A.It does not address the larger problem of password fatigue.
B.These software programs have been built into many major web browsers
C.The problem with password management software makes users feel powerless.
D.The SSO software then automatically logs the user in to other accounts within the system.
E.However,SSO confirmation and password management software also have drawbacks.
F.This is a method of recognizing human users based on unique traits, such as fingerprints, voice,or DNA.
G.Others solve this problem by using the same password for every account or using extremely simple passwords.
