Attention to detail is something everyone can and should do ―especially in today’s tight job market. Bob Crossley, a human-resources expert notices this in the job applications that come across his desk every day. “It’s amazing how many candidates cross out themselves,” he says.

“Resumes (簡歷)arrive with all kinds of faults. Some candidates don’t bother to spell the company’s name correctly. Once I see a mistake, I cross out the candidates,” Crossley concludes. “If they cannot take care of these details, why should we trust them with a job ?”

Can we pay too much attention to details? Absolutely. Perfectionists struggle over little things at the cost of something larger they work toward. “To keep from losing the forest for the trees,” says Charles Garfield, the professor at the university of California, San Francisco, “We must constantly ask ourselves how the details we’re working on fit into the larger picture. If they don’t, we should drop them and move to something else.”

Garfield compares this process to his work as a computer scientist at NASA. “The Apollo moon launch was slightly off course 90 percent of the time,” says Garfield. “But a successful landing was still likely because we knew the exact coordinates of our goal. This allowed us to make adjustments as necessary.” Knowing where to go helps us judge the importance of every task we undertake .

Too often we believe what accounts for other’s success is some special secret or a lucky break. But rarely is success so mysterious. Again and again, we see that by doing little things within our grasp well, large rewards follow.

Attention all Chinese challengers to the Indian with the world's longest ear hair(4 inches)or the Americans who smooched(擁抱)their way to the world's longest kiss(30 hours, 59 minutes, 27 seconds)-your day has come. And this time it's official.

The Guinness Book of World Records landed in China on Thursday, bestowing 10 awards on record-breaking people and places and for the first time permitting a local firm to look for more.

The London-based institution has a law case against a Shanghai company which borrowed the Guinness label, said Stewart Newport, the Keeper of the Records.

"It's unfortunate that some people may have been misled, but hopefully this will correct it," he said.

Guinness has signed an agreement with the Liaoning Education Press, based in the northeastern city of Shenyang, to publish the Chinese-language edition of its record book and review applicants for future editions, Newport said.

Guinness first published its record book in 1955.The reference now claims to be world's best selling copyrighted book with sales of more than 94 million copies in 37 languages-only the Bible, not exclusively copy written, has sold more.

Most of China's new record-holders were long overdue.

They include athletes like diver Fu Mingxia, who became the world's youngest sporting champion at the tender age of 12 in 1991 and is unlikely ever to be beaten.

And since July, 1980, a movie house has been screening the classic "Love on Lushan Mountain" four times a day, everyday, to tourists in the picturesque Jiangxi province setting which gave the film its name.Guinness researchers took more than two months to determine to their satisfaction that no other theater had continuously shown the same film as long.

Attention deficit(不足)hyperactivity(活動過度)disorder is known by the letters A.D.H D.Children with A.D.H.D.might have trouble paying attention. They might not seem to listen and might forget things. They might not be able to stay seated or play quietly. They might talk too much and act and speak without thinking about the results of their behavior. These are among the signs named on the web site of America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Doctors usually identify the disorder in children. But experts say the behaviors often last into adulthood.Researchers have been looking for the cause or causes of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Now, a brain-imaging study offers more evidence that could lead to new ways to treat it.Researchers say they observed shortages in the brain's reward system in patients with A.D.H.D.The study found that levels of some proteins were lower than normal.Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, says the lack of attention and self –control that mark A.B.H.D. could be caused by problem in the flow of dopamine(多巴胺). She says people might have difficulty completing an activity if they cannot expect some kind of reward in return. Researchers studied the pathways on which dopamine travels and A.D.H.D. Doctor Volkow says the researchers then compared the pathways to those of 44 adults without the disorder. “There was a lower concentration of dopamine markers in the brain of individuals with A.D.H.D., specifically in the areas of the brain that are involved with reward and motivation. And the dopamine levels were directly linked to the severity, of the patient’s inattention she says.”

The study used brain images taken at Brookhaven National Laboratory in new York State. Gene-Jack Wang is chairman of the Brookdhaven medical department. He says the finding might also help explain why people with A.D.H.D.

are more likely to abuse drugs or overeat. He says they might be attempting to increase their dopamine levels to make up for the deficits in their reward system.
