Remembering names is an important social skill. Here are some ways to master it.
Recite and repeat in conversation.
When you hear a person’s name, repeat it. Immediately say it to yourself several times without moving your lips. You could also repeat the name in a way that does not sound forced or artificial(虛假的).
Ask the other person to recite and repeat.
You can let other people help you remember their names. After you’ve been introduced to someone, ask that person to spell the name and pronounce it correctly for you. Most people will be pleased by the effort you’re making to learn their names.
Admit you don’t know.
Admitting that you can’t remember someone’s name can actually make people relaxed. Most of them will feel sympathy (同情) if you say, “I’m working to remember names better. Yours is right on the tip of my tongue. What is it again?”
Use association (聯(lián)系).
Connect each person you meet with one thing you find interesting or unusual. For example, you could make a mental note: “Vicki Cheng -- tall, black hair.” To strengthen your associations, write them on a small card as soon as possible.
Limit the number of new names you learn at one time.
When meeting a group of people, concentrate on remembering just two or three names. Free yourself from remembering every one. Few of the people in mass introductions expect you to remember their names. Another way is to limit yourself to learning just first names. Last names can come later.
Go early.
Consider going early to meetings, parties and classes. Sometimes just a few people show up on time. That’s fewer names for you to remember. And as more people arrive, you can hear them being introduced to others — a review for you.
1. How will most people feel when you try hard to remember their names?
A. They will be moved. B. They will be annoyed.
C. They will be delighted. D. They will be discouraged.
2.If you can’t remember someone’s name, you may ______.
A. tell him the truth

D. ask others to help you
3.When you meet a group of people, it is better to remember ______.

Different cultures
The cultures of the East and the West really distinguish each other a lot. 1._____
The origin of the Eastern cultures is mainly from two countries: China and India. Both of the two cultures are developed by rivers—the Yellow River in China and the Indus River in India. 2.________
When the two mother rivers gave birth to the Eastern culture, another famous culture was brought up on the Mesopotamian Plain—the Mesopotamian Civilization. This civilization later on developed into the cultures of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. 3.________ Like the Chinese culture, the European culture also crossed waters. When the British settled down in America, their culture went with them over the Atlantic Ocean. So the American culture doesn't distinguish from the European culture a lot.
4.________ Take the language system for example. In the East, most languages belong to the pictographic language while the Western languages are mostly based on the Latin system. Other causes like human race difference counts as well. But what's more, due to the far distance and the steep, areas between the East and West, the two cultures seldom communicate until recent centuries. So they grew up totally in their own ways with almost no interference(干擾) from the other.
These differences are everywhere. 5.________ But different cultures make the world of 21st century more colourful. The cultural gap should not be the obstacle (障礙) to the civilization of human being. It ought to be the motivation of our going farther.
A.Let us work together to keep a variety of culture.
B.One important thing is to learn about other cultures.
C.And these two are well known as the base of the European culture.
D.At the same time, some other differences add to the cultural differences.
E.This is because the culture systems are two separate systems on the whole.
F.They helped the two cultures develop for centuries and form their own styles.
G.They are obvious and affect people's ways of thinking and their views of the world.

I once had a friend that was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and the news that he might only live up to six months was a great shock to him, his family, and his friends. However, in spite of the serious illness, he was initially determined to look into all available treatments that might cure or extend his life. I think that when you find yourself in such situations, you tend to look up every possible way for hope of saving your life.
As months went on and his health grew worse, I noticed an unexpected change in attitude that came over him.He had also been a happy person with a cheerful personality, but rather than give in to discouragement and self-pity, he took comfort in God and humanity. His talks focused on others rather than himself, and he spoke of the afterlife as something he was prepared for, believing that his concerned ancestors, including his mother and father, were there waiting for him.
During the last few months, weeks, and days of his life, he was kindly cared for by family, friends, his loving wife, who looked after both his physical and emotional needs, and workers from a local hospice (安養(yǎng)院) came to the home to regulate his medication and provide any other needed support. He didn't complain about his fate, and he willingly allowed others to serve him.
Indeed, one might think why God allows death and suffering in our world, but for me, such experiences taught me to value family more and kindness for others. You often can't learn these important attributes(屬性) in the lap of luxury(優(yōu)裕舒適的環(huán)境), and perhaps, such an experience is the greatest and final gift the illness can give those left behind.

A. Giving more respect to the family and friends

Understanding Disabilities
There are around 650 million people in the world that have disabilities, yet most people are still quite ignorant (無(wú)知的) about it.
1.What do you think of when you see the word,‘disability’?
Wheelchairs? White sticks? The Paralympics (殘奧會(huì))? 1. The legal definition of disability is that someone has a physical or mental impairment that has a great and long?term bad effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day?to?day activities.
This affects about 650 million of us,worldwide. 2. Most become disabled during the course of their life. So maybe the term TAB (Temporarily Able?Bodied) is better for people who are not disabled, because we may not stay that way forever.
2. 3.
Imagine not being able to see,or not being able to walk. Think of all the things that would be different. How can I get my education? What about my future? Would my friends still want to hang out with me? Will strangers laugh at me in the street? Can I get my own place? What job can I do?
Clearly, having a disability can affect many things in a person's life.
3.Disability and the law
4. It is illegal and extremely unpleasant to discriminate (歧視) against someone who is differently abled. The label ‘disabled’ is not always helpful. Even if someone meets the legal definition, they may not see themselves that way. Instead of thinking about what is wrong with those people,or noticing what they can't do,we should look at how we like to live, and try to make it possible for everyone to join in.
After all—what is normal? 5. But better understanding would be a start.
A.How can the disabled find better jobs?
B.How does disability affect people?
C.People with disabilities don't need pity.
D.Most of us have never really thought about it.
E.We should consider more for people with disabilities.
F.Only 17% of people with a disability are born with it.
G.There are laws to prevent people with disabilities being treated unfairly.
